Fendt produces face shields from the 3D printer

Masks and other protection wear is still rare in many companies but especially rare in medical facilities. The Fendt cabin factory in Asbach-Bäumenheim is producing the so called “Face Shields” visors, who protect the face from drops, since the beginning of April.

“We have been using our 3D printer in the production for two years now to produce individual devices fast and easy. The devices support the employees in the assembly in terms of quality and time”,

so Thorsten Miethe, factory manager of the European AGCO competence center for cabins.

“We are now using our Know-How to produce the urgently needed visors. On one hand our employees are receiving the face shields and on the other hand we are donating them to medical facilities in the region to support them in the corona crisis with something that they really need.”

Fendt is donating the 55 grams light face shields to doctors and aid organisations who did not receive certified protection wear anymore. We provided the county assosiations from the bavarian red cross and also regional dentists with the protection wear from the 3-D printer.

The district manager of the BRK’s Arthur Lettenbauer said:

“The support from AGCO/Fendt for the Bavarian Red Cross, North Swabia District Association, is fantastic. They have helped us especially in these difficult times, in an uncomplicated and quick way to achieve further protection for our employees. Our employees are exposed to extreme stress every day anew, because they don’t know what to expect on their next assignment. Therefore we are very grateful that they have provided us with the Face Shields”.

With the help of the printer manufacturer Ultimaker and the Reifenhäuser company, which provides the film for the visors free of charge, more than 100 of these protective visors can now be produced every day.

“The production is partially automated. Employees from our production area pack the sets for doctors and aid organisations, who are responsible for testing the use and suitability for the respective field of application. The feedback so far is extremely positive. The medical staff like to use them because they are light and comfortable to wear”

says Thorsten Miethe.

The visors are made of PET and can be easily disinfected with standard commercial products.
