The organisational machine of EIMA International, the world exhibition of agricultural machinery that will hold its 45th edition in Bologna from 9 to 13 November, is in full swing. In these very days the offices of FederUnacoma, the association of agricultural machinery manufacturers that is the direct organiser of the event, are fine-tuning the full calendar of themed events that have always punctuated the five days of the exhibition. While it is still being worked out, the programme already appears to be rich in content, including press conferences, conventions, exhibitions in the demo area, seminars and workshops. In the foreground, political and economic issues relating to the development of the agro-mechanical sector, which are the focus of the press conference presenting the event, scheduled for Tuesday 8 November.

The meeting is an opportunity to take stock of developments in the world market for agricultural machinery, with an analysis of possible short and medium-term trends. Political and economic scenarios will be discussed again on Wednesday 9 November, with geopolitical analyst Dario Fabbri opening a window on the military conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and the consequences for the agricultural sector and the agro-mechanical industry.

Moreover, the next edition of EIMA is an important moment of debate with politicians and representatives of institutions – delegations of European and Italian parliamentarians will be present in Bologna – called upon to define strategies for the sector, which has to deal with structural and long-term crises, such as those linked to global warming and drought. Together with technological innovation, the climate emergency is one of the strong themes of the Bologna event.

Various meetings have already been scheduled on this subject, from the workshop on “Climate change: risk management”, promoted by FederUnacoma and Agia/CIA (Wednesday 9 November), to the seminar entitled “Sustainable use of water – EUWAY Project” organised again by AGIA/CIA (Thursday 10 November), and the conference on “The challenge of water. Accessible technologies for developing countries” organised by FederUnacoma/CEFA. The digitalisation of mechanical vehicles, the spread of precision agriculture, the new frontiers of automation and artificial intelligence are fundamental for the sustainability of the primary sector, and it is precisely these technologies that are at the centre of the meeting scheduled for Friday 11 November by the Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF), while the meeting organised by the Agricultural Robotics Association (FIRA) on Thursday 10 November looks in particular at systems for highly automated agriculture. Agriculture 4.0 will also be discussed at the meeting of the Smart Agrifood Observatory which, also on Thursday 10 November, will take stock of the spread of digital technology in the agricultural and agrifood supply chain.

Also dedicated to technology, the award ceremony for Tractor of the Year 2023, organised by Trattori magazine, is scheduled for Wednesday 9 November. The Tractor of the Year finalist models will parade in the impressive outdoor demo area of EIMA International, specially set up between halls 35 and 37.

Also worth mentioning among the appointments at the Bologna event is the “Contractor of the Year” award ceremony promoted by “Il Contoterzista” magazine and scheduled for Friday 11 November. A brand new item at EIMA 2022 is the “Garden E-motion” event, promoted by Comagarden, which consists of a programme of demonstration tests of vehicles and equipment for gardening and landscaping, set up in an open-air area inside the exhibition centre and centred on different types of machines.

In real-world agricultural working conditions, CO2 emissions are reduced by a minimum of 10% when compared to a standard diesel tractor and are close to net-zero when running on biomethane. Moreover, polluting emissions are reduced by 80% on average when compared to a standard Diesel engine.

The excellent performance of the domestic market combined with the growth of exports – says Alessandro Malavolti, president of the manufacturers – will lead to an overall turnover of the Italian industry of no less than 14 billion Euros by the end of the year. 

 The Italian agricultural machinery market is moving at record pace. In the first nine months of the year, tractor registrations – according to data processed by FederUnacoma on the basis of registrations provided by the Ministry of Transport, and released this afternoon in Bologna – grew by 43.8% compared to the same period of 2020, with 18,500 units sold; combine harvesters grew by 50.4% with 358 units; transporters grew by 18.9% with 497 units sold, trailers grew by 27.3% (7,459 units) and, finally, agricultural telehandlers, which with 1,156 vehicles sold in the nine months showed an increase of 78.4%.

As far as operating machines and equipment are concerned, the “Barometer” survey carried out by FederUnacoma shows that 83% of companies recorded an increase in turnover in the first half of the year, and 54% recorded increases of more than 20%. A very positive year also for the components sector, which, according to Comacomp (FederUnacoma) surveys, saw an increase in turnover in the first half of the year for 94% of the companies surveyed, with 67% recording increases of more than 20%. FederUnacoma calculations forecast overall increases of around 25% by the end of the year.

“The good performance of the domestic market is combined with the growth that the sector is recording at global level, and this is driving the production of Italian industries that are particularly competitive on foreign markets. The value of exports of tractors in the first six months of the year rose to 846 million euros with a trade balance of 494 million (+65%), while for other agricultural machinery the first half of the year reached an export value of over 2 billion euros (+24%), for a trade balance of over 1.37 billion euros (+19%).”

After the suspension due to the health emergency, the World Exhibition of Agricultural Machinery will be presenting itself with a large number of exhibitors, important innovations and a calendar of appointments of political interest. Businesspeople will arrive from all over the world for an event that – says FederUnacoma general manager Simona Rapastella– has a very high technical content but is also a formidable ‘relations machine’.

The 44th edition of EIMA International, the world exhibition of machinery, equipment and components for agriculture and landscaping, to be held in Bologna from 19 to 23 October, is set to get underway with impressive figures. The event, the first international event in the sector after the suspension of trade shows activities imposed by the health emergency, will be attended by 1,350 exhibiting companies, 350 of which are foreign, representing over 40 countries and displaying more than 40 thousand models in the 14 specialised sectors and 5 theme shows (“Components”, “Green”, “Energy”, “Digital” and “Hydrotech”) in which the event is divided.

During the presentation press conference held this afternoon in Bologna, Simona Rapastella, General Manager of FederUnacoma, the Italian federation of manufacturers that organises the event, commented:

“The number of exhibitors is very positive if we consider that, due to force majeure connected to Covid restrictions, companies from some important countries are missing, such as China or India, which were present with more than 300 industries at the last edition and which should return, together with manufacturers from other countries, in the next edition in November 2022”.

Apart from the limitations still in force for some areas, EIMA 2021 confirms its international character. During the five days of the exhibition, in addition to agricultural entrepreneurs and mechanization technicians, businesspeople from all over the world are expected at the Exhibition, including official delegates selected by the ICE offices (about 300 representing 60 countries), interested in negotiating the purchase of machinery that responds to the specific needs of the various farming and business models.

A wide range of categories, new products and absolute previews are the traditional strong points of the event. The Technical Innovation Competition has been confirmed, which rewards the innovative solutions designed by manufacturers for all types of agricultural work (on display in the Quadriportico area).

There will also be the finalist models of the Tractor of the Year, which for the first time will be able to parade in an open-air arena, where machines for bioenergy chains can also be seen.

The 2021 edition of EIMA International is indeed one of the most interesting from a political perspective. The Government will be present through the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Manlio Di Stefano; and the chairmen of the Agriculture Commission of the Chamber and Senate, together with delegations of the members of these commissions, will also be visiting the exhibition for a discussion on the best policies for the sector.

The President of the Emilia Romagna region, Stefano Bonaccini, the Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, the ICE Board Member Daniele Vaccarino and all the councillors for agriculture of the Italian regions will also be present at EIMA, along with a large delegation of MEPs. The EIMA international exhibition – dedicated to machinery and equipment for agriculture and gardening, held in Bologna from 19 to 23 October – marks the debut on the trade fair scene of many important innovations. Leading companies in the agro-mechanical sector will finally present their new ranges live, after the long period of suspension of trade fair events due to the health emergency.

In the tractor sector, there are many new products “on the show”: prestigious manufacturers with a global reach such as the Argo Tractors Group (with the Landini, McCormick, and Valpadana brands), New Holland, and John Deere (the latter represented by the dealer Agribertocchi), and famous brands for specialized tractors such as Antonio Carraro and the BCS Group (including the BCS, Ferrari and Pasquali brands) are present with top models and premieres.

The Argo Group will be presenting new products for all its brands, and as far as the Landini brand, in particular, is concerned, it will be on stage with the new REX4 Stage V and the new MISTRAL2, specific ranges for vineyards and specialized crops, and the SERIE 5, which stands out for its efficiency and comfort in the utility segment; also on show, the REX4 ELECTRA – Evolving Hybrid -, winner of the 2021 Technical Innovation Competition, in a world premiere.

John Deere’s flagship models will include the new-generation 8RX 370 crawler tractor, suitable for working on steep slopes, and in the medium power segment, the 6120M model, particularly suited to livestock farms.

New Holland is present in all power brackets, showing among others the BOOMER 45 and 55 stages V models in the 60 hp segment, and the new T7 Heavy Duty exhibited for the first time at a trade fair, as well as the T6 Methane Power, the world’s first standard-equipped natural gas tractor.

The Antonio Carraro range includes the new TORA series, including the SRX 5800/6800 model, winner of the 2021 Technical Innovation Award, the INFINITY series, including the SR7600 articulated reversible tractor, and the TONY series with the latest TONY 8900 TTR and TONY V 8700 models, with oscillating front axle chassis.

The BCS group will be showcasing the new ISO 35, ISO 60, and ISO 85 series isodiametric models, the new ISO 70 range including the Dualsteer version, winner of the 2021 Technical Innovation Award, as well as the models of the SDT series with differentiated wheels and cantilever engine.

The new technical solutions are offered within both the BCS, Ferrari, and Pasquali ranges. Top models are also taking part in the international Tractor of the Year competition promoted by Trattori magazine, which will have a dedicated open-air area at EIMA, where they can be paraded before the public.

The finalists – fourteen in all, produced by eleven brands – for the “Tractor of the Year” category are the Case IH Optum 300 Cvx Afs Connect, the John Deere 7R 350 AutoPowr, the Massey Ferguson 8S.305 Dyna-VT, the New Holland T6.180 Methane Power and the Valtra T235 Direct.

As of next June 15, exhibition activities will officially resume and EIMA International will be “in the front row”. The Italian government has effectively unblocked exhibition events – with the “Reopening” decree of April 22 – and the world exhibition of agricultural machinery, held at the Bologna exhibition centre from October 19 to 23, will be the first international event of the agro-mechanical sector to reopen its doors, confirming its status as the event of reference during the year’s calendar.

With almost 1,600 exhibiting companies already booked, 30% of which are from abroad, the exhibition will be a very important rendez-vous for businesspeople, farmers and mechanisation technicians, after the long pause due to the health emergency that cancelled all other sector events scheduled for 2020 and 2021.

The Bologna exhibition centre, which has hosted the event since 1969, the year of its first edition, is ready to welcome exhibitors and visitors in a venue that is being upgraded: after the new pavilions 29 and 30, inaugurated at the 2018 edition, EIMA International will see the launch of pavilion 37, as well as a restyling of the walkways, refreshment areas and services, representing a further step towards the complete restructuring of the exhibition centre that was already planned. But it will be the above all control health and safety systems that will qualify the Bologna exhibition centre and the October event.

These systems will ensure the distancing of visitors, expected from all over the world, thanks also to the “green corridors” set up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The measures include rationalised routes for flow management, IT support and apps to monitor the distribution of the public in the halls, health and control facilities and the above all systems for the on-line purchase of tickets and for booking business meetings so as to avoid crowding and useless stops inside the exhibition centre.

In all likelihood, EIMA 2021 will be one of the first major exhibition events to adopt the Pass for “certified” visitors – currently being studied at the European level – representing as far as possible a protected place, the symbol of an agricultural and industrial economy that is finally getting back on track.

The McCormick X7.6 VT-Drive Stage V will also play a leading role at Eima Digital, thanks to the combination of power and high technology it delivers, fully meeting its customers’ needs. Thanks to the increase in engine power from 200 to 240 hp, the entire X7.6 series has reached the new Stage V emission level.

It is equipped with a 6-cylinder, 24-valve 6.7-litre Beta Power Fuel Efficiency engine, which delivers a maximum torque of 983 Nm at 1,400 rpm with the Power Plus system that guarantees maximum power and performance combined with fuel savings, lower tractor wear, and a generous 36% torque reserve. The SCR – Selective Catalyst reduction system with a 52-liter AdBlue tank reduces engine emissions. The SCR system is combined with the DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyser), a passive oxidizing catalyst capable of reducing pollutants and meeting the most stringent anti-pollution regulations.

The engine is associated with the B.I.C. Best in the Class system which guarantees a decisive improvement in the use of fuel filters: the result is a reduction in oil waste and a lengthening of maintenance intervals with a reduction in costs. The Engine Brake and Cooling Matrix systems confirm the objective of technological implementation and usability of the tractor.

The first, in fact, reduce engine speed, thanks to the activation of the engine brake associated with the rear brakes, through the use of the turbocharger throttle valve. Whereas the Cooling Matrix system facilitates the opening of the under-hood radiators for easy and efficient cleaning.

Everything is designed to guarantee maximum reactivity of the tractor in all types of operation, making the work particularly easy for the operator to whom, as always, the utmost attention is paid. The VT-Drive 4-stage, continuously variable transmission with 4 sets of crown wheels with wet clutches are also designed with this in mind.

With 4 speed ranges, from a minimum of 0.04 km/h to a maximum of 50 km/h, it is able to guarantee maximum productivity in every work context, always delivering full power, both at the wheels thanks to reinforced final drives and at the power take-off (PTO) available in 4 speeds. The Closed Centre Load-Sensing (CCLS) hydraulic system provides a flow rate of 160l/min.

From the previous engine, the X7.6 Stage V inherits the load-bearing chassis and front
suspension with independent links that provides a lower level of vibration and improved
traction at the front axle with maximum maneuverability for greater safety and driving
comfort.

Attention to the needs of the operator and care in making his/her work simpler is objectives which have resulted in the anti-dumping semi-active suspension cab, with main features that include the high quality of the materials used, the excellent level of ergonomics, and attention to detail. All this in a context of maximum comfort and spaciousness.

The Eazysteer function, for electronic steering modulation, also contributes to the operator’s driving comfort, in combination with satellite driving options provided by Topcon Agriculture.

The ease of use of the tractor is enhanced by the configuration of the control unit, governed by Data Screen Management (DSM). Each of the 5 programmable “MyFunctions” buttons allows several functions to be stored for greater customization of the tractor controls. The operator can also electrically adjust the steering wheel tilt with a switch and the height with a lever.

The technological level of this tractor with innovative contents is completed by the factory-fitted components for guidance systems, -ISObus control, as well as McCormick’s flet management system.

ISObus seamlessly integrates the tractor, implements, and on-board computer, making it easy for the operator to manage them via the 12” DSM touch screen monitor, ensuring superior efficiency and productivity.

Also via DSM, a rear/front camera and the Advanced HMF management system can
be controlled for optimal management of all headland operations. The advanced McCormick Fleet Management system, on the other hand, makes it possible to manage a fleet of tractors by providing immediate and precise telematics information to which are added the geofencing functions for added security, telemetry for consumption control, and remote diagnostics for effective real-time monitoring of the tractor and to permit the programming of a maintenance plan which will be effective over time.

The attention to the design integrates well with the technological research and innovations that characterize the McCormick X7.624 VT-Drive, which features a bonnet in line with the style of the McCormick X8 family and a roof with 12 LED work lights, positioned to ensure the operator has 360° visibility during night operations.

X6 Red Power Series, exclusive equipment

McCormick X6 is now available in a special edition package. The Red Power, with Metallic Red livery, Heavy Black rims, and equipment including Suspended Axle, air conditioning, and Electronic Hitch.

It is a set-up that interprets the great qualities of technology, power, and comfort of the X6 series in the most high-performing and exclusive way. Highly configurable and capable of carrying out any type of work activity, the McCormick X6 is synonymous with versatility and is able to meet the specific needs of each farm.

The three models in the series, X6.35, X6.45, and X6.55 are equipped with Deutz 3.6-
liter 4-cylinder engines with Common Rail electronic injection and have power outputs
of 110, 119, and 126 hp. The models comply with Tier 4 Final emission regulations, thanks to the innovative exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) in addition to the DOC + SCR post-treatment system.

The cab, perfectly soundproofed and equipped with automotive quality materials, recreates a pleasant environment at all times, in all conditions, thanks to efficient ventilation, heating, and air conditioning. The rear window and the transparent upper hatch can be opened to facilitate ventilation. The perfect 360° panoramic view makes it easy to work with the front loader and in tight spaces, where it is essential to have excellent short-range visibility.

Comfort in field and transport operations is ensured by options including a front axle with center suspension and mechanical cab suspension, built to the highest standards in terms of ergonomics, quietness, and all-round visibility.

The transmission is available in two versions: hydraulic reverse shuttle 12+12 or 36+12 with HML and for both there is the option of the creeper. The high-performance rear hitch provides a lifting capacity of 6,000 kg served by a 66 l/min open center hydraulic circuit. The maximum available rear wheel size is 38”. Among the technological options is the factory-fitted preparation for ISObus and satellite guidance system.

In addition to these interconnection solutions, there is the McCormick Fleet Management system, which allows the farmer and/or fleet manager to monitor vehicle efficiency during work, control maintenance reports, and consumption, optimizing performance and operating costs.
