The MCL loaders are compact but robust machines providing features and functionality not found in other machines their size. A folding canopy allows users to work in areas inaccessible by traditional, larger loaders. The loaders are equipped with hydraulic and maneuverability options, M-Drive and Speed Control. With M-Drive, the engine speed can be controlled independently of travel speed, allowing power and hydraulic flow to be adapted to best suit the job at hand. Speed Control allows operators to set the maximum travel speed from 1 mph to the max speed of 19 mph (MCL6 & MCL8 only).

Operators can easily fold down the canopy in seconds by removing a pin on each column and simply pushing the roof back. This reduces the machine’s height by as much as a foot (0.3 meters) to less than 6.6 feet (2 meters), allowing them to drive in areas with limited clearance, operate seamlessly indoors and navigate under carports and garage doors with swift, agile performance.

With a good balance between compactness and lifting capacity, MCL loaders can accommodate a range of attachments, including buckets, grapple forks, pallet forks and shredders. An extended boom enhances material handling productivity, making tasks such as stacking bales, managing fodder and cleaning stables simple and efficient. The MCL series’ optimum height-to-width-to-length ratio ensures agility on any jobsite. Each machine has a 45-degree articulation that keeps the front wheels traveling in the same path as the rear wheels while driving. A 10-degree oscillation allows for a strong follow-up and maximum traction wherever the machine might travel, including on uneven ground.

Tobroco-Giant has unveiled what it deems to be a “worthy successor” to its V452T wheel loader – which for years has been its best-selling model.

Dubbed the G2700, this new kid on the block is more powerful than its predecessor when it comes to engine power and traction, Dutch brand Tobroco-Giant says.

Due to a higher operating weight, the tipping loads have “increased considerably” – which, the machinery brand says, makes the G2700 “a modern powerhouse with compact dimension”.

The G2700 is available in four different models, namely: the G2700 HD; G2700 X-TRA HD; G2700 HD+; and G2700 X-TRA HD+. All four models are powered by a three-cylinder Kubota engine with 50hp.All models are powered by a hydrostatic all-wheel drive with automotive steering.

The articulated pendulum joint gives the G2700 a small turning circle, which allows the machine to operate in confined spaces.

This system also gives the wheel loaders a lot of stability because it ensures that all four wheels remain on the ground, even when working on uneven terrain, Tobroco-Giant says.

Both the G2700 HD and the G2700 X-TRA HD have an operating weight of 2,550kg. This gives the model with the standard lifting arm a lifting height of 2.96m and tipping load of 2.375kg. This extends to a tipping load of up to 2,900kg for the top model in the series, the firm says.

The G2700 models come standard with a ROPS/FOPS safety roof, double-acting hydraulic function on the lift arm and a “luxury suspension seat”.

The two new machines, deliver zero exhaust emissions, lower noise levels, a reduced energy costs and less maintenance requirements.

Starting in 2020, Volvo CE will begin to launch a complete range of electric compact excavators (EC15 to EC27) and wheel loaders (L20 to L28), stopping new diesel engine-based development of these models.

“We are the first construction equipment manufacturer that commits to an electric future in the compact range,” said Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE. “We don’t only think about the future, we build it.”

Unveiled at bauma, the ECR25 excavator and L25 wheel loader are the first machines in the new electric range from Volvo CE.

Jernberg called the new machines the “stars” of Volvo CE’s product lineup at bauma.

“Our approach is to have a sustainable mindset throughout the whole value chain so we can deliver clean, productive and innovative products,” Jernberg said during Volvo’s bauma press conference.

Transition to electric

To make the ECR25 and L25 electric, combustion engines have been replaced with lithium-ion batteries.

The ECR25 excavator is fitted with lithium-ion batteries and one electric motor which powers the hydraulics in order to move the machine and the attachment. The machine’s batteries store enough electric energy to power the ECR25 for eight hours in its most common applications, such as utility work.

The L25 incorporates lithium-ion batteries which supply eight hours of operation time in the machine’s regular applications, including light infrastructure work, gardening, landscaping and agriculture. The L25 also incorporates two dedicated electric motors; one for the drivetrain and one for the hydraulics.

Decoupling the subsystems has led to higher efficiency in both the systems and the entire machine.

Both the ECR25 and L25 have onboard chargers that allow for overnight charging via a regular household socket. As well, a fast-charging option, requiring more powerful grid access, will also be available.

“The ECR25 and L25 are revolutionary machines that demonstrate Volvo CE’s commitment to future technology,” said Scott Young, Volvo’s director of Electromobility and Automation.

“As the machines are electric, no particulate matter, nitrogen oxide or carbon dioxide are released into the environment. This, together with the fact that they have extremely low noise levels, makes them ideal for use in cities and densely populated areas.”

Electric prototype to reality

The launch of the ECR25 and L25 follow positive reactions to Volvo CE’s concept machines over the last few years. This includes the prototype EX2 electric compact excavator and the prototype LX2 electric compact wheel loader.

“While the ECR25 and L25 are different machines, the learnings from these research projects have helped to build the foundations for the new range of electric compact machines,” Young said.

“The technology we have been developing is now sufficiently robust and this, together with changes in customer behavior and a heightened regulatory environment, makes now the right time to launch our electric compact machines.”

With the unveiling of the first electric machines, a number of machines will be used and tested by customer’s in pilot projects before production begins mid-2020.

“Unveiling our first commercial electric machines marks a significant moment in Volvo CE’s journey towards building a more sustainable future,” Jernberg said. “The electrification of construction equipment will produce cleaner, quieter and more efficient machines – this represents the future of our industry.”

The 5G network will be used at Volvo CE’s research and development facility at Eskilstuna to further develop solutions for remote control of construction machinery and fully automated solutions. It will also be used to increase understanding of how connected machines can create added value for the customer.

“Automation has several levels and having 5G is an important technical support to enable us to drive development in this area. These trials in Eskilstuna will include the remote control of a conventional wheel loader but also further tests of the HX2 concept load carrier,” says Melker Jernberg, President Volvo CE.

“We can see that the industry’s interest in 5G is considerable. Automation of the entire flow will mean new ways of working and greater gains from efficiency. But to connect business-critical machines and vehicles requires a solution that is able to handle the massive amounts of data with guaranteed connection. That is what 5G can give us. And we are proud to lead the 5G-development in Sweden together with our partners,” says Anders Olsson, CEO of Telia Sweden.

Even with fully-automated systems, human intervention is still needed now and again for control. Todays’ remote-control technology has a time lag that makes it difficult to control at high speed or with high precision. 5G will make remote control simpler and safer.

“With extremely short response times, high capacity, and a high level of accessibility to the mobile network, commercial and standardized 5G technology can be used for applications such as remote control of heavy machinery in real time. This opens up new opportunities for greater efficiency, cutting costs and reducing risk in hazardous environments. 5G enables us to create a safer, more efficient and sustainable society. In cooperation with Telia and Volvo CE, we are now putting theory into practice in Eskilstuna. “At the time, we were looking for a central supplier,” explains Industrial Manager Bernardo Mendonça. “We made detailed specifications with precise technical requests and Hitachi presented the most appropriate and cost-effective solution. Our operators were also involved in the selection process and they were delighted with the performance of the Hitachi wheel loader.”

High availability

At the 10-hectare site, the ZW220-6 (video) is being used to mix three different types of clay, as well as feed the main chute that leads to Leca’s central processing plant. To help meet demand, the wheel loader must load 600m³ of mixed material into the system per 20-hour shift. The end result is five different types of porous clay that are exported for use in construction and agriculture.

According to Bernardo, the Hitachi wheel loader is perfectly suited to the task: “One of the biggest challenges we face in Avelar is the 24/7 operation, which means that the wheel loader is required to work constantly. For this reason, the high availability and reliability of the ZW220-6 make it the ideal solution.”
