This plough is intended to be used for meliorative tillage, i.e. to break up compaction and improve the soil as a result. The implement features bodies that plough at alternating depths to create wells below the tillage level in every other furrow, which are then filled with humus-rich topsoil. Analyses of historical trials conducted by the ZALF have shown that more than half of the humus introduced in this manner is retained to secure the long-term storage of CO2 in the soil.

The lower soil layers with little humus which are ploughed up in the process are mixed with the topsoil and form new humus-rich topsoil within a matter of only a few years, as carbon is introduced from crops. Overall, the humus content of soils tilled in this manner therefore increases, and soil fertility improves. At the same time, this sustainable soil improvement creates a new business model in the form of carbon farming.

Breaking up compacted soils while also introducing humus-rich topsoil into wells allows plant roots to grow into deeper soil levels and access the water and nutrients retained there. This approach can increase yields by up to five per cent even in the first year. This effect was established as early as the 1960s and 1980s and has been confirmed by recent field trials conducted by the ZALF.

The method can be repeated diagonally to the main direction of work after five to ten years. In addition to the above benefits, this new carbon farming technology also opens up new income streams for farmers in the form of trade in CO2 certificates. A potential future tax on CO2 emissions is therefore avoided, and the competitiveness of agricultural businesses is improved.

When paired with an iQblue connect module, the Carbon Farming Plough, which is based on tried and tested Lemken ploughs, will be capable of collecting site-specific work data and precisely documenting the depth and position of the wells created. This new plough will be available to purchase from mid-2024.

Väderstad introduce the new product family Inspire, focused on bringing excellent seeding results to the 12-meter seed drill segment. Then new Väderstad Inspire 1200C/S is designed to combine high capacity with an exact seeding precision.

“The new seed drill Väderstad Inspire 1200C/S is aimed at farmers with high-capacity needs. It’s compact both in the field and in transport and the combi version Inspire 1200C has one of the largest hoppers in its class,”

says Björn Jeansson, Commercial Product Manager at Väderstad.

The heart of Inspire is its responsive double-disc seed colter system. It has an excellent ability to adapt to any irregularities on the field, thereby always keeping the seeding depth constant. The result is an impressive seed placement and an even emergence over the entire field.

Inspire 1200C/S will be available in two different models – Inspire the 1200S and Inspire 1200C. The seed-only version Inspire 1200S is equipped with a 5000-liter hopper for seeds. While the combi version Inspire 1200C has a 7200-liter hopper holding both seeds and fertilizer in two separate compartments. When leaving the Inspire 1200C hopper, the seed and fertilizer are mixed into the same airstream and placed together into the soil.

A key feature of Inspire 1200C/S is its ability to control the seeding output in eight separate sections. To ensure a constant and even product flow from the large hopper to the seed colters, the seeds and fertilizer are metered out with high output precision from the large hopper via 8 Fenix III metering units.

“Inspire 1200C/S is able to control the output in eight separate sections. This means that Inspire 1200C/S can conduct a variable rate as well as sectional control down to 1.5m sections. This is a unique precision feature in the 12-meter seed drill segment,”

When in the field the seeding operation is easily controlled via the iPad-based control system Väderstad E-Control, which is also possible to connect with an ISOBUS task control system.

Väderstad Inspire 1200C/S will have its premiere at the international tradeshow Agritechnica in February 2022. The machine will be available from the end of 2022.

Thanks to its special design, several different operations are possible using one machine. Specifically, stone crushing, wood mulching, and soil tilling up to a depth of 40 cm. This translates into a broad range of applications in many sectors of the forestry and agricultural industry, and also in the construction of dirt roads and forest trails.

The model was recently completely redesigned to better satisfy user needs. The entire transmission has been reinforced and is now designed for tractors up to 310 HP. At the same time, brand new technology – the first of its kind in the market – comes into play, the so-called 2SPEED-POWERSHIFT transmission. This “powershift” transmission allows the operator to easily switch from one rotor speed to another, from the tractor itself and with the machine running. Unlike the past, when it was necessary to stop the tractor and machine, shift a mechanical lever on the central box, and then restart. The advantages are clear: fast adaptation to the field conditions and the right operating model for all work situations.

In slow gear, at about 500 rpm, the machine is suitable for all soil works and stone crushing. In fast gear, at about 1500 rpm, it is suitable for surface mulching.

Switching occurs through the tractor ISOBUS terminal. This terminal can also be adapted to older tractors without ISOBUS. Even the temperatures are monitored by the control unit in order to promptly intervene in case of a malfunction in the cooling circuits. The counter, which keeps tabs on the hours and parts subject to wear, and which is now incorporated in the standard supply, is used to monitor the operating costs.

As for the rest, there have been few changes to the nature of the machine itself. The external dimensions are practically identical, that is, an external width of 2.8 m with a fantastic working width of 2.5 m. Of course, a smaller version is also available with an external width of 2.55 m and a working width of 2.25 m, which is also approved for road use.

The hydraulically adjustable skids are a new feature, available on request, which has aroused no shortage of interest. Using these, the working depth can be adjusted directly from the driving position, thus proving to be a very practical system, especially for mulching works requiring minimal contact with the ground. Without these hydraulic guides, the working depth is adjusted using the traditional method, via the position of the support roller.

With the Tyrok 400, Amazone launches a completely newly-developed semi-mounted reversible plough in a choice of 7, 8 or 9 furrows for the 400 HP tractor class. The main features of this plough are its higher output, even under continuous load, perfect quality of work and outstanding robustness. At the same time, the Tyrok offers a high level of comfort thanks to its very simple, safe and precise adjustability.

Plough bodies meticulously thought-through – SpeedBlade for more performance

The new SpeedBlade plough body, with its patented extra-large front shin on the mouldboard, makes for minimal wear on the main mouldboard. The main wear point automatically shifts further and further back towards the centre of the plough body by increasing the working speed from such as 6 km/h up to 10 km/h.

As a result, the main wear point of the SpeedBlade body is on the enlarged front shin of the mouldboard and not back on the main part of the slatted or solid mouldboard, even at these higher forward speeds meaning, therefore, that only the front shin of the mouldboard has to be initially replaced on the Tyrok when used at higher speeds. This enormously reduces wearing costs compared to other designs.

Another detail with great effect: the point covers the blade, meaning that the joint is protected by the point. Thanks to this clever join up, no plant residues or baler twine can get entangled. In addition, the open frog prevents soil from sticking under the frog due to its profile so that the maximum ease of pull on the plough body is maintained.

The unique ©plus hardening process is the basis for high quality during the manufacture of Tyrok wearing parts thanks to the additional introduction of carbon. For example, very high hardness and thereby a smooth surface is achieved on the front of the shin. Long service lives are therefore ensured. The reverse side remains relatively soft and is therefore extremely tough and impact resistant.

The SpeedBlade plough body range offers a selection of different slatted and solid mouldboard profiles depending on the application and objective. The sophisticated design of the plough bodies combined with the advantages of the ©plus hardening process ensures a low pulling power requirement, thereby reducing fuel consumption. For particularly tough conditions, the points are also available as an HD option or as reversible interchangeable points for short set-up times and less wear.

The wide-furrow clearance is another big plus of the SpeedBlade bodies, especially with the increasing use of wider tractor tyres.

Pure robustness without compromises

The Tyrok has particularly robust thanks to the strong, high-tensile steel rectangular beam with dimensions of 200x150x10 mm. A decisive advantage over beams with a less strong design: the beam does not bend during work even under high loads. This ensures a uniform working depth over the entire length and working width.

The Tyrok also scores points with the new SmartTurn system. At the headland, the fast turning procedure is hydraulically slowed down twice just before the end. This results in a damping effect which reduces stress on the materials when the cylinder is retracted. There is no need to compromise on speed as the low-stress turning process is completed within only 9 seconds.

The optionally available hydraulic overload safety protection also ensures smooth and material-protective working in arduous operating conditions. The plough body is gently pushed back into the soil via the hydraulic cylinder. The trigger force decreases as the lift height increases. Trip forces of up to 2000 kg can be infinitely adjusted either centrally or separately on each individual body, depending on the operating conditions.

Safe, comfortable and precise adjustment for a perfect working profile

The Tyrok is equipped with mechanical furrow width adjustment as standard. As an option, the working width can be infinitely adjusted hydraulically from the comfort of the tractor cab to suit the conditions. The new AutoAdapt automatic front furrow adjustment offers a huge advantage in terms of comfort and precision.

This means that the front furrow is also automatically adjusted hydraulically when the overall working width is changed on variable furrow width Tyrok ploughs. As a result, changing soil conditions or slopes can be responded to safely and quickly, thereby enabling perfect matching to the last furrow.

The working depth is mechanically or hydraulically adjusted via the excellently damped running gear, which also absorbs large shock loads. In this respect, the substantial support wheel not only ensures precise depth control but also provides optimum soil compaction protection. In addition, the standard hydro-pneumatic suspension of the support wheel ensures maximum driving comfort and safety on the road.

The optimum pull line can be adjusted via the 180° rotating headstock of the Tyrok. Minimising the side pull results in further potential savings in the pulling power requirement and thus in fuel consumption. The headstock also offers maximum flexibility with various coupling options. The Tyrok can also be optionally equipped with traction control for reduced slippage. In this case, another hydraulic cylinder transfers weight to the rear axle of the tractor. This provides maximum pulling power and even higher fuel savings.

All hydraulic functions can be conveniently controlled with very little effort at the front of the headstock in the central SmartCenter setting centre.

Completely equipped for complete performance

Optional soil engaging tools allow the new semi-mounted reversible plough to be universally adapted to all operating conditions. For example, various skimmers or trash boards are available for the clean incorporation of large amounts of organic matter. Additional landside protectors can be attached to the shares to ensure better plough guidance on slopes.

An optional sword landside, which protects the edges of the front shin of the mouldboard from wear and cuts a clean furrow wall, is ideal for regions with stony and heavy soils. Disc coulters can be fitted to the last body for an exceptionally clean furrow clearance.

Väderstad adds the new Spirit 600C InLine to its wide seed drill segment from October 2021. The InLine-version of Spirit places a low fertiliser rate together with the seed in the seed furrow, providing the plant quick nutrient uptake.

The InLine system allows the fertilizer to be placed in the same row as the seed. This gives the seed a quick boost directly after drilling, shortening the time of emergence. The InLine system is highly beneficial when working with moderate levels of fertilizers, says Magnus Samuelsson, Concept Developer, at Väderstad.

Spirit 600C InLine allows for a high capacity, high precision solution.

Spirit 600C InLine is equipped with a separated airflow where the fertilizer is distributed apart from the seed. This prevents the sorting of inputs in the system and is of most importance when the sizes and weights of the kernels are different. The intensity of the airflow is easily adjusted, ensuring that both the seeds and fertilizer are placed with optimal precision, says Magnus Samuelsson,

The fertilizer is metered with the Fenix electric metering system, this is the same unit used for the seed metering. It is both highly precise and non-corrosive. Split cells in the rotor and an angled exit from the metering unit efficiently prevents any pulsing, ensuring that all plants will have the exact same access to fertilizer.

The Enduro/Enduro Pro is equipped with auto-reset Triflex tines at a release point of 700kg. The new ST-PRO II row units feature a simplified method of adjusting coulter alignment when correcting machine tracking issues. With just two bolts, the coulter spindle can be set to one of 3 positions: 1o left, 1o right or 0o (straight ahead). In this way, the counters are used to steer the machine and keep it running directly behind the tractor.

Units equipped with Montag dry fertilizer systems benefit from a new row unit frame design which routes the air exhaust and fertilizer dust down the back of the shank and is blown down into the soil for added nutrient retention and decreased equipment corrosion.

The ST-PRO II is equipped with a new chain mounting system that allows the end links to pivot and so evens up wear across the length of the chain, extending service life. With 50% fewer bolts holding the chains to the reel, chains are also faster than ever to replace.

Sometimes it is necessary to keep going, even in less than ideal conditions. Designed with this in mind, the Strik’R conditioner reel on the ST-PRO has a well-earned reputation for running plug free in wet soil. The ST-PRO II builds on this, and the gaps between the tabs on the reel endplates have been closed up reducing the tendency for mud to pack inside the endplates, further extending the weather window in which these machines can run and making machine clean up easier.

The ST-PRO II retains all the great features of its predecessor, such as wrenchless adjustments and zero daily maintenance. The Strik’R conditioning reel maintains a good berm and actively crushes clods whilst shedding soil, to create a uniform seedbed without plugging. The working depth range is 6” – 12”, adjustable in 1” increments and dry, liquid or anhydrous fertilizer can be placed in the strip with the ability to mix and match any two products.

Many growers in Western Canada use zero and minimal tillage systems, but managing crop residue and soil moisture is an increasing challenge, especially in fields with compaction issues. These low-impact practices offer plenty of agronomic advantages, like reducing soil disturbance and erosion while maintaining organic matter and soil nutrients. But soil compaction can lead to the formation of a hardpan layer just below the top few inches of soil in a field. This layer is so compact that it restricts much-needed moisture and nutrients from reaching crop roots. And the result of restricting water and nutrient availability is limited root growth and penetration into the subsoil, leading to stunted, drought-stressed plants.

So, how can growers manage crop residue with their preferred zero or minimal tillage equipment while avoiding soil compaction? The answer is vertical tillage.

How does this method work?

Aptly named, vertical tillage is an approach that encompasses the entire soil profile – from the top down. Starting with the surface layer, the system breaks down crop residue, incorporating it into the top few inches of soil and preparing an ideal seedbed. Working down through the soil profile, true vertical tillage machines can also manage and correct compaction issues, improve moisture and drainage, and support strong root growth for crop establishment.

Salford’s vertical tillage equipment, including the Independent Series or I-Series lineup, offers growers an opportunity to realize the benefits of vertical tillage. Väderstad’s unique MixIn shin come equipped on all Väderstad tine cultivators, and drastically extends the mixing action of the machine. A true Väderstad innovation, the MixIn shin throws the material forwards instead of upwards, which forces the material to pass the tine twice – thus doubling the mixing intensity both in depth and lengthwise.

”The MixIn shin creates a forward moment of the soil that provides an intense lengthwise distribution of the crop residues.
