For large square baling operations, it’s an indispensable asset for their future by improving bale harvesting while helping them meet the operational demands of the evolving agricultural landscape with confidence.”

states Brad Littlefield, precision marketing manager, dairy and livestock segment for New Holland.

Lasering in on Windrows With Precision

At its core, IntelliSense Bale Automation provides operators with a complete automated baling system focused on feed rate and swath guidance. It achieves this by combining two operator-assisted baling modes:

SmartSteer swath guidance enables hands-free driving for precise navigation of the tractor and baler along the windrow. It can be turned off and on at any time by the push of a button or movement of the steering wheel.

IntelliCruise II adjusts tractor speed based on the material feed rate into the baler. The operator sets the number of slices per bale target and maximum speed limit, and the baler continuously adjusts the forward speed to achieve the bale slice target.

IntelliSense Bale Automation relies on LiDAR technology to calculate distance based on reflections from the windrow. The LiDAR measures swath cross-section and speed input to prevent overloads and forecast swath changes by detecting 19-26 feet ahead of the tractor, even in low-light or nighttime conditions. The processor determines swath position and shape, relaying this information to the tractor’s ISOBUS steering.

Four Fenceposts Driving Profitability in the Field

With the IntelliSense Bale Automation system, New Holland aims to increase four elements critical to operations and operators: baling productivity, bale quality, fuel efficiency and operator comfort.

Increased baling productivity

The system increases operational productivity by ensuring constant high capacity without exceeding the limit. Baler blockages are prevented, ensuring continuous workflow and maximizing production time.

Improved bale quality

Bale quality is elevated by the system’s ability to eliminate crop leftovers. It also helps maintain a uniform bale shape through regular chamber filling and consistent weight to achieve a standardized bale weight at the desired target level.

Reduced fuel consumption

IntelliSense improves fuel efficiency by optimizing throughputs to reduce fuel consumption while ensuring the tractor operates at peak performance.

Enhanced operator comfort

The system prioritizes operator comfort and ease of use. Less experienced operators can maximize their output with automated guidance and feed rate control. IntelliSense’s LiDAR Technology reduces fatigue during long harvesting days and improves efficiency in low-light environments.

“The IntelliSense Bale Automation system is not only focused on output and the bottom line but stands out for its prioritization of operator well-being and safety.

At the heart of our design is a commitment to putting operators first and creating technology that addresses their most important needs for a seamless and productive experience.”

affirms Littlefield.

“Encouraging relationships, empowering community.”

It’s the phrase that HarvestHER founder, Tracy Zeorian, says summarizes both the mission and purpose of the organization she created in 2016. HarvestHER is a nearly entirely online-based community comprised of women involved in agriculture, many of whom are part of custom harvesting operations in the United States.

New Holland Agriculture North America has sponsored HarvestHER since its inception and has chosen today, International Day of Rural Women, to announce its continued commitment to the organization, its members, and its mission.

“Throughout history, women have been the backbone of the world’s agriculture,”

said Carlo Lambro, New Holland Brand President.

“Today’s women in agriculture are farmers, researchers, business owners, and innovators. They produce more than half of the world’s food and hold the key to our sustainable future. At New Holland, today and every day, we celebrate their ingenuity, strength, determination, and passion for farming.”

HarvestHER is the brainchild of Zeorian, who after spending decades as a custom harvester, realized her stories and struggles from the road following wheat harvest each year from Texas to Montana were familiar to other women involved in harvesting and agriculture. Since its inception, HarvestHER has emerged as a premier online community for women in agriculture to share their stories and find a source of encouragement.

“HarvestHERs are the women whose families are involved in crop harvest,”

said Zeorian.

“It’s their stories – the sacrifices made and the struggles that come from being on the road, on the farm, or away from their families and friends that you’ll read on our site. These women give their all to make sure there’s food on your table and at the end of the day, they love what they do.”

In appreciation of HarvestHER and women in agriculture in North America, New Holland is hosting a virtual roundtable discussion with Zeorian, to discuss the challenges, success stories, and importance of community as they relate to rural women. The session will be recorded and posted to New Holland North America’s YouTube channel for public access in early November.
