Increased productivity

With a weight of 1690 kg (3,720 lb.), this new 200 Series head features a higher performance valve that allows for better oil flow and greater hydraulic working pressure capabilities (35 MPa or 5,076 psi) for more feed power. It also boasts reduced frame friction for straight or curvy trees. Improved measuring wheel log contact enables more accurate measuring while a new find-end laser sensor reduces the need to saw.

The H225E also includes patented variable angle feed rollers for better bark separation cutting as well as debarking initialization and efficiency, improving debarking for varying diameters. Redesigned swept cast arms improve delimbing in harvesting or processing applications with lower knife improvements for reverse delimbing. The H225E features Waratah’s TimberRiteTM H-16 measuring and control system for increased efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.

Improved durability

Built to master debarking, the H225E features new delimb arm profiles, which improve delimbing and durability in plantation stands of consistent diameter or variable diameters of big timber. The length measuring system has been improved for more durability and placement on the log – or with optional measuring from the feed motors.

The new valve includes anti-cavitation protection for feed motors, and additional guarding protects the mainframe and roller arm cylinders. Additionally, a new hose bulkhead bracket reduces hose wear and interference on tracked carriers. Extra protective elements have been added to the rear knife hose routing and tilt cylinder base-end bearing for increased part durability.

Lower operating costs

With the more efficient hydraulic operation, the new H225E valve design allows for higher working pressure to reduce oil flow needs and provide more torque with reduced fuel consumption. This also decreases the need for hydraulic oil cooling. Additionally, an improved hose layout promotes uptime by minimizing potential hose failures.

Easier serviceability access to the roller arm cylinder, new valve bank, and hose layout, also contribute to enhanced uptime and lower daily operating costs. The Waratah H225E head is currently available to customers in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia Pacific, Brazil, and Latin America.

Updated Smooth Boom Control (SBC) improves the amount of pressure needed to operate a function, giving the operator more feel and control of the movement, especially during fine metering. This allows for a wider tuning range for individual functions and improves the set-up for multiple operator preferences and skill levels.

The new dual-density foam seat provides more support and comfort during operation. With improved seat cushioning, built-in contoured lumbar and thigh support and additional clearance for their thighs, all sizes of operators can feel comfortable in any desired seating position.

Thanks to its special design, several different operations are possible using one machine. Specifically, stone crushing, wood mulching, and soil tilling up to a depth of 40 cm. This translates into a broad range of applications in many sectors of the forestry and agricultural industry, and also in the construction of dirt roads and forest trails.

The model was recently completely redesigned to better satisfy user needs. The entire transmission has been reinforced and is now designed for tractors up to 310 HP. At the same time, brand new technology – the first of its kind in the market – comes into play, the so-called 2SPEED-POWERSHIFT transmission. This “powershift” transmission allows the operator to easily switch from one rotor speed to another, from the tractor itself and with the machine running. Unlike the past, when it was necessary to stop the tractor and machine, shift a mechanical lever on the central box, and then restart. The advantages are clear: fast adaptation to the field conditions and the right operating model for all work situations.

In slow gear, at about 500 rpm, the machine is suitable for all soil works and stone crushing. In fast gear, at about 1500 rpm, it is suitable for surface mulching.

Switching occurs through the tractor ISOBUS terminal. This terminal can also be adapted to older tractors without ISOBUS. Even the temperatures are monitored by the control unit in order to promptly intervene in case of a malfunction in the cooling circuits. The counter, which keeps tabs on the hours and parts subject to wear, and which is now incorporated in the standard supply, is used to monitor the operating costs.

As for the rest, there have been few changes to the nature of the machine itself. The external dimensions are practically identical, that is, an external width of 2.8 m with a fantastic working width of 2.5 m. Of course, a smaller version is also available with an external width of 2.55 m and a working width of 2.25 m, which is also approved for road use.

The hydraulically adjustable skids are a new feature, available on request, which has aroused no shortage of interest. Using these, the working depth can be adjusted directly from the driving position, thus proving to be a very practical system, especially for mulching works requiring minimal contact with the ground. Without these hydraulic guides, the working depth is adjusted using the traditional method, via the position of the support roller.

The 17,000th Ponsse forest machine has rolled off the production line in Vieremä. The milestone machine, a Ponsse Elk built-in mid-August, will start its career in the sure hands of Kuusmoto Oy.

“It is a special privilege to hand over the 17,000th Ponsse machine to the Finnish Kuusmoto Oy. I wish to thank Kuusmoto for their trust and fantastic cooperation as we continue our journey together,”

says Sales, Service, and Marketing Director Marko Mattila.

Founded in 2014 and hailing from Posio in Finland, Kuusmoto Oy currently employs 17 people. They operate in seven municipalities in Finnish Lapland. The company has a total of nine Ponsse machines.

“We are happy to receive this excellent machine and its plaque. Our current plan is to put the birthday boy to work in Posio or Ranua. It will be a fine addition to our fleet,”
