The foldable-canopy MCL loaders offer the ideal solution in landscaping and especially agriculture applications. The quick-folding canopy allows operators to leverage the loaders’ benefits in areas with limited overhead clearance, making a spot once inaccessible to machines now a reality. This compactness is especially valuable on a farm where operators are completing work in areas such as livestock stalls and milk parlors.

“Space can come at a premium in some work sites, but that doesn’t mean productivity must be sacrificed. Engineering compact loaders with a folding canopy gives our customers an efficient option to thrive in areas not previously reachable with similar equipment.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

The MCL loaders are compact but robust machines providing features and functionality not found in other machines their size. A folding canopy allows users to work in areas inaccessible by traditional, larger loaders. The loaders are equipped with hydraulic and maneuverability options, M-Drive and Speed Control. With M-Drive, the engine speed can be controlled independently of travel speed, allowing power and hydraulic flow to be adapted to best suit the job at hand. Speed Control allows operators to set the maximum travel speed from 1 mph to the max speed of 19 mph (MCL6 & MCL8 only).

Operators can easily fold down the canopy in seconds by removing a pin on each column and simply pushing the roof back. This reduces the machine’s height by as much as a foot (0.3 meters) to less than 6.6 feet (2 meters), allowing them to drive in areas with limited clearance, operate seamlessly indoors and navigate under carports and garage doors with swift, agile performance.

With a good balance between compactness and lifting capacity, MCL loaders can accommodate a range of attachments, including buckets, grapple forks, pallet forks and shredders. An extended boom enhances material handling productivity, making tasks such as stacking bales, managing fodder and cleaning stables simple and efficient. The MCL series’ optimum height-to-width-to-length ratio ensures agility on any jobsite. Each machine has a 45-degree articulation that keeps the front wheels traveling in the same path as the rear wheels while driving. A 10-degree oscillation allows for a strong follow-up and maximum traction wherever the machine might travel, including on uneven ground.

Mecalac offers a new hydraulic thumb option for its recently re-configured two-piece boom with offset, available for 6MCR skid excavators and 7MWR wheeled excavator models. The new thumb makes it easy to pick up, maintain and move large or long objects, transforming material handling capabilities for applications such as truck loading or pipe laying. This makes it ideal for contractors in a number of industries including utilities, landscaping, road maintenance, and general construction.

Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America, said:

“Mecalac believes a machine that doesn’t make an operator’s life easier has no place on the job site. The hydraulic thumb not only increases productivity, but it also keeps workers safer and makes their lives easier.”

The hydraulic thumb option permanently mounts to the bucket linkage where it is powered by the boom’s hydraulic cylinder. Unlike grappling buckets or other attachments that must be dismantled during other operations, the new hydraulic thumb can remain attached during digging work or other tasks. The thumb is composed of four teeth and is compatible with Mecalac’s CONNECT hydraulic quick coupler, the safest and most compact quick coupler on the market. When engaged, the constant pressure exerted on the thumb throughout the cylinder’s stroke ensures precise control of the load, allowing operators to efficiently move boulders, pipes, and other cumbersome objects without leaving the cab or changing the attachment.

The new hydraulic thumb option is available on 6MCR and 7MWR models with Mecalac’s two-piece boom with offset and can be added to existing models with this boom, as well. This variation of Mecalac’s innovative boom design maintains the unrivaled range of motion and industry-leading lifting force. Additionally, positioning the stick cylinder above the boom, rather than underneath, provides a wider working angle, faster movement, and a higher penetration force that is ideal for excavation and truck loading applications. Dimensions and work envelope remain similar to the standard boom, and attachments, such as loader buckets and pallet forks, are still compatible.

Mecalac welcomed five dealers to its network in 2020. The new dealers significantly expand Mecalac’s coverage across the eastern U.S., as well as provide a toehold for the company on the West Coast and in several key Canadian markets. These partnerships increase access and customer support for existing Mecalac customers and help bring the company’s innovative lineup to new regions across the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.

“Mecalac is always looking for innovative ways to address industry challenges and improve our customers’ productivity. We aren’t happy with the status quo and believe our dealers shouldn’t be either. We’re building relationships with dealers who believe in our approach, share our values, and aren’t afraid of new solutions. We’re excited about our growing North American network and look forward to increasing access to Mecalac products and services across the continent.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

Helping connect Mecalac with contractors in central Pennsylvania is Wood’s CRW Corporation. With nearly 60 years of industry experience, this relationship-driven heavy equipment distributor services the northeastern U.S. through locations in Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, and Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

The group originated in Puerto Rico more than 66 years ago and reached the mainland U.S. in 2010. Trekker Tractor, the equipment sales rental and service division, will offer Mecalac products at six locations throughout Florida. The company provides equipment, tools, and accessories, supplies, and materials for a variety of industries.

On the West Coast, Fontana, California-based Scott Equipment is a full-service dealership featuring new and used equipment sales, fully equipped shop/field service department capabilities, an experienced parts department, and a wide range of equipment rental machines. The family-owned dealership has been serving the Southern California heavy construction market for nearly 50 years with two locations.

Gear Equipment is dedicated to bringing brand new, innovative, and unparalleled technology to Canadian contractors, making them an ideal partner for Mecalac. Through locations in Ontario and soon in British Columbia, Gear Equipment will offer Mecalac’s complete range of compact and powerful excavators, both tracked and wheeled, as well as loaders and site dumpers.

“As a relatively new player in the North American market, we’re working hard to make a lasting first impression. We believe in the game-changing productivity of our machines. Our dealers do, too. Together, we’ll help every contractor in North America recognize the extraordinary versatility Mecalac machines provide.”

Thanks in part to an innovative boom design, our MCR and MWR machines open faster and close up tighter than anything out there, providing more power, speed, and dexterity for the tightest worksites. But innovation never stops. Our engineers found a way to further specialize our existing technology for certain applications.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

The new option is a variation of the Mecalac boom optimized for excavation and truck loading applications. This alternative boom configuration positions the stick cylinder above the boom, rather than underneath, to provide a wider working angle, faster movement, and higher penetration force while maintaining the features that make the original Mecalac boom revolutionary on the excavator market. Dimensions and work envelope remain similar to the standard boom, and attachments, such as loader buckets and pallet forks, are still compatible.

The new Mecalac boom is now the standard configuration for 6MCR and 7MWR excavators. The original boom design will remain standard for all other models in the MCR skid excavator and MWR wheeled excavator series, which provides unparalleled power and flexibility for diverse applications.

Unlike traditional mono booms, Mecalac’s design features five axes for an unrivaled range of motion, providing a more compact footprint and minimizing the need to reposition the machine in a number of situations. The boom can be tucked in close to the machine, even with a full bucket, allowing for extra compactness and mobility without overbalancing the unit in the front — resulting in a true zero-turn radius. For loading-trucks, working in confined spaces or operating near the body of the machine, the boom’s extended range of movement increases flexibility and reach while minimizing unnecessary movement. This dexterity also increases overall efficiency with a number of attachments. For example, it allows for parallel lifting and below-grade operation with pallet forks.

The boom is offset to the side of the cab, which allows the operator to angle the first part of the boom back to increase stability during lifting — resulting in the highest lifting force in its class — and reduces the machine’s overall footprint for work in confined areas. An additional offset in the second segment of the boom lets contractors dig outside the machine’s width as well as work parallel to the machine over longitudinal obstacles, such as fences.

“From the start, Mecalac’s boom design changed the game for excavator operators, increasing lifting capacity to industry-leading levels and allowing them to work closer to the machine than ever before. But we recognize that contractors take different paths to achieve success. To help maximize the benefits of our MCR and MWR machines for every customer, we offer a boom optimized for excavation and truck loading applications.”

Mecalac welcomes Trekker Group to its growing dealer network. The Trekker Group is one of five dealers Mecalac added in 2020 to expand coverage across North America. Trekker Group will offer Mecalac’s innovative line of crawler skid-excavators — the MCR Series — as well as the company’s MWR Series of wheeled excavators and AS Series swing loaders at six locations throughout Florida. The partnership creates a solid foundation for sales and service in the Southeast and Gulf Coast regions as Mecalac works to bring its game-changing productivity to job sites across America.

“Growing a brand — especially one as unique as Mecalac — requires a strong partner with exemplary customer service. Trekker Group recognizes Mecalac’s potential for their landscaping and construction customers. They also have the support network necessary for helping us foster a whole new way of thinking about the job site.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

Trekker Group originated in Puerto Rico more than 66 years ago, reaching the mainland U.S. in 2010 with the establishment of Trekker Tractor. Several divisions of the company, including the original Puerto Rico Wire Group, continue to provide construction wire products, tools, and accessories across Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. In addition to Trekker Tractor, the equipment sales rental and service division, the group also manages Trekker Distributor in the U.S. This division provides concrete formwork and shoring supplies and design consultation services, as well as multiple construction equipment lines throughout Florida and most states in the Southeast.

As part of Trekker’s equipment lineup, Mecalac’s newly updated 6MCR, 8MCR, and 10MCR offer superior speed, productivity, and compact operation over traditional mini-excavators. The machines combine the quickness of a skid steer with the 360-degree rotation of an excavator for versatility and travel speeds two times faster than any small excavator. Using a range of attachments, contractors can easily do the job of several machines with a single unit, freeing up resources and space and boosting productivity.

“Partnering with Mecalac is an ideal fit with our customer base. We focus on on-site work, utilities, water treatment plants, pool contractors, landscapers, and municipalities. Jobsites are often crowded and difficult to access. Mecalac equipment is compact, highly maneuverable and the most innovative machines our industry has seen in the last 50 years. With Mecalac our customers can be more resourceful and efficient. We’re happy to be able to help make that happen.”

said Adam Stegeman, vice president of operations for Trekker Group.

Trekker Tractor will also offer the 7MWR, 9MWR, 11MWR, and 15MWR, which feature a revolutionary design that addresses pain points often encountered with wheeled excavators.

“Mecalac products are designed to simplify the lives of our users without compromising on performance. Our MCR series provides the quickness of a skid steer with the 360-degree rotation of an excavator for versatility and travel speeds two times faster than any compact excavator. But sometimes speed isn’t everything. Speed Control allows operators to easily match their speed to the task.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

With the turn of a dial, operators can easily select their desired speed. When combined with the flexibility from a range of attachments — including mowers, mulchers, sweepers, snowblowers, and many more — the Speed Control system maximizes versatility for all MCR series units, increasing productivity and job site efficiency. Mecalac’s patented quick coupler, CONNECT, another advanced feature standard on the MCR series further increase speed and ease of use by allowing operators to switch between attachments without leaving the cab for greater efficiency in a variety of tasks.

“The MCR series is like a high-tech multi-tool; you really can do it all with a single machine. They don’t need a mower and a skid steer and an excavator. There’s an attachment for every task, and now a speed setting that matches. With Speed Control, operators don’t need to worry about trying to maintain a certain speed; they can just focus on the task at hand.”

Bigwood said.

MCR units also feature Mecalac’s innovative three-part arm and a 360-degree rotating ability for an extended range of movement and game-changing compactness. Operators can do more from a single position or within confined spaces with increased flexibility and reach while minimizing unnecessary movement. The three-part arm can also be tucked in, allowing for extra compactness and mobility without overbalancing the unit in the front — resulting in a true zero-turn radius. In addition, the boom system gives the MCR unprecedented lifting capacities — pound for pound, exceeding anything else on the market.

Like all AS Series units, the 8-ton (7,250-kilogram) AS900tele features Mecalac’s innovative swing design. Operators can swivel the fully loaded bucket 90 degrees on either side, transforming space management and allowing for a radical new approach to tasks. With the rotating bucket, filling trenches or carrying pipes requires minimum operating space. On a road project, this rotation limits necessary space, requiring only a single lane closure rather than the two-lane closure needed for traditional loaders. For a congested urban job site, this flexibility allows for optimal equipment positioning in confined spaces.

Additionally, the unit’s telescoping capabilities pair reach with power for unparalleled flexibility. With a lifting height of 15.5 feet (4.72 meters) and an outreach of 11.5 feet (3.5 meters), the AS900tele allows operators to minimize repositioning while maximizing reach. The AS900tele has a carrying capacity of 5,004 pounds (2,270 kilograms) at full extension, providing ample power for applications such as loading walking floor trailers or waste handling. Paired with a range of attachments — including pallet forks, buckets, brushes, snowplows, and hedge trimmers — the telescoping allows the unit to replace traditional backhoe loaders, wheel loaders, and telehandlers.

Functioning as a loader, telehandler or landscaping tool, Mecalac’s AS900tele reduces the need to for additional equipment and optimizes jobsite logistics.

For even more versatility, the AS900tele features three steering options — 2-wheel, 4-wheel, and crab. This flexibility allows operators to simultaneously drive, pivot, and maneuver, regardless of ground conditions. Combined with the swivel arm, it results in a 20% smaller turning radius compared to traditional wheel loaders and increases productivity and safety for a range of common tasks like loading a trailer and material handling as well as municipal jobs like mowing, snow handling, and pruning trees. By avoiding unnecessary movements and maximizing the use of available space, the AS900tele can increase productivity with less noise, maintenance, and impact on the environment.

Even with the wide range of motion, the AS900tele offers increased stability over traditional articulated loaders and telehandlers. A well-balanced design and automatically locking rear axle allow operators to safely maneuver in all positions and on all terrains. Traditional equipment, on the other hand, can become unstable with only a 45-degree turn.

“All the AS Series units were designed around a single idea — how do we improve the articulated loader to provide better efficiency and streamline the worksite. The AS900tele takes that innovation a step further, replacing two or even three other machines without sacrificing the productivity or safety of Mecalac’s swing loader.”

Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America, said:

“One of the main goals of every Mecalac design is reducing congestion on the job site by providing one machine that can take the place of several. The MCR Series is truly multifunctional, acting as a skid steer, excavator, or rough terrain forklift, depending on the attachment. We designed the new MCR series to go faster than anything else its size because we know time is of the essence on every job site. But speed is only part of the equation when it comes to efficiency, so we added an unparalleled range of motion with the patented three-part Mecalac boom system, allowing operators to do more from a single position. Together these capabilities produce truly game-changing versatility.”

The new MCR Series features a hydrostatic transmission and drive motors strong enough to take on any job. A dedicated pump drives the motor, allowing for twice the speed of any traditional mini excavator on the market. Each of the three machines is capable of travel speeds up to 6.2 mph (10 km/h). This significantly reduces time spent traveling across job sites, resulting in faster cycle times and less unnecessary downtime.

On the job site, the MCRs’ groundbreaking versatility increases productivity and reduces congestion. This is due in part to the company’s patented quick coupler, CONNECT. The advanced system allows operators to quickly transition between attachments — such as pallet forks or digging buckets — without leaving the cab, decreasing downtime between tasks, and increasing overall productivity. Additionally, once the pins are engaged, CONNECT guarantees zero risks of dropping a bucket.

Mecalac introduces its innovative line of crawler skid-excavators — the new MCR Series — for superior speed, productivity and compact operation.

Using a range of attachments, contractors can easily do the job of several machines with a single unit, freeing up resources and space without sacrificing efficiency. With a skid bucket attachment, contractors can move up to .98 cubic yards (.75 cubic meters) of material at top speed or rest the bucket against the blade for applications such as grading and ground leveling. This innovative feature stabilizes the bucket, distributing the forces to the frame of the machine, and reducing stress on the boom, prolonging component life.

MCR units combine Mecalac’s innovative three-part arm and a rotating ability to deliver superior performance as part of the company’s signature 360-degree compactness. The extended range of movement increases flexibility and reach while minimizing unnecessary movement, allowing operators to do more from a single position or within confined spaces. The three-part arm can also be tucked in, even with a full bucket, allowing for extra compactness and mobility without overbalancing the unit in the front — resulting in a true zero-turn radius. In addition, the boom system gives the MCR unprecedented lifting capacities – pound for pound, exceeding anything else on the market.

Mecalac has opened a new 14,000-square-foot facility in Norfolk, Massachusetts, to serve as the North American headquarters and further support the growth of the brand in this market. Opened July 2019, the new facility centralizes Mecalac’s administrative offices, equipment inventory, parts, and service support in one building, replacing the three separate locations the company maintained previously. It will be home to an in-house training facility, and play host to dealer and media events throughout the year.

Alexandre Marchetta, Mecalac CEO, said:

“The North American market has been very receptive to the Mecalac approach, which puts a heavy emphasis on innovation. Every piece of equipment is designed with the end user in mind and solves the challenges operators face daily. The new facility underscores our commitment to the North American market and will allow us to better serve our growing dealer network and customer base.”

Though a leader in many product categories on the global stage, Mecalac was not involved in the North American market until 2016.

The company’s initial dealer partnership was with Lorusso Heavy Equipment near Boston. The dealer believed the North American market was ready for the innovations the Mecalac product offers, not only for work in urban areas but also for a variety of other applications, and shared a passion for finding new solutions to everyday job site challenges. Shortly afterward, in 2017, Mecalac acquired Terex’s line of backhoe loaders, site dumpers and compaction rollers. These are well-known products in North America, further strengthening Mecalac’s presence in the market. The success of its first U.S. distributor combined with the Terex product acquisition ultimately led to the formation of Mecalac North America.

The facility is home to a diverse team of 14 Mecalac employees with a combined 200 years of experience in the construction equipment industry. In the months ahead, Mecalac expects the team to grow to enhance its local presence and to provide a high level of support after the sale.

Peter Bigwood, general manager of Mecalac North America said:

“One of our priorities is to expand our dealer network across North America. We currently have 15 dealers and plan to grow at a measured but steady pace. To serve our customers the best way possible, we look for dealer partners who understand the construction equipment market and share our enthusiasm and vision for reshaping how contractors work with highly differentiated, innovative products.”
