Talking about Antonio Carraro’s life is the same as talking about the company that bears his name. Out of “Giovanni Carraro”, founded in 1910, a manufacturer of sowers, tractors, and diesel engines, came two separate companies, founded in 1960: Antonio Carraro di Giovanni (with Antonio, sister Bianca and father Giovanni) and Carraro spa (with Oscar, Mario, Francesco and Clara, Giovanni’s other children). The two branches of the Carraro family each followed a different business vision: Antonio specialized in compact tractors with equal-sized wheels for specialized agriculture whilst Mario and Carraro spa specialised in large-scale tractor axels and automotive components.

Antonio Carraro’s Business history

After the split of Giovanni Carraro, in 1960, Antonio Carraro began its production of compact tractors for specialized agriculture, under the rotating four-horse brand, a Persian symbol of fertility and strength dating back to the 1600s. From the beginning one success led to another: from 1970 they broke away from all competitors and the Antonio Carraro brand became a market leader in the compact tractor sector.

In 1973 Antonio Carraro founded “Centre for Study and Research”, one of the first in the Italian metal mechanical sector, where a team of technicians was dedicated exclusively to the research into innovative vehicles for agriculture, in collaboration with universities in Padova, Bologna, Berlin, Humboldt, and Sidney.

From 2000 the company’s first expansion plan began with the construction of new warehouses in Campodarsego along with the reorganization of all production departments, in line with Porsche Consulting from Stuttgart. The training, over 3 years, brought about a fundamental change in the company, which today finds itself at the head of the mechanized agricultural companies due to the maximum technology applied to its production process and the organization in accordance with the Japanese philosophy “Kaizen” which calls for continual small steps towards improvement.

On narrow rowed crops and in orchards, on mountainsides, in greenhouses, in pastures and forests, in public and private green area maintenance, on winter roadways, on building sites, in the maintenance of sports grounds, an Antonio Carraro tractor can make all the difference in terms of yield and operative wellbeing.

For many years now in Italy the Antonio Carraro brand has had the newest registrations in the compact tractor segment. It is amongst the 7 top brands in the world.

Antonio Carraro, through his story, brought about the company’s growth and subsequent production activity leading to employment in the mechanical sector. Essentially, the vehicles created by him have given a strong boost to the agricultural economy in the Mediterranean Basin and the mountains in the Alpeadria area (Northern Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and Eastern Europe), southern Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal as well as Germany, France and all of Europe. Since the 60s hundreds of dealers for our tractors have sprung up along with many AC outlets.

Active in the company, up until he passed away, Antonio Carraro constantly followed the work of the Research and Development Department, where he spent his days. Easy-going and generous by nature, he always contributed vigorously to company life, featuring in the institutional documents and in the publicity adverts (the latest with Albano Carrisi, friend and loyal customer).

In November the latest film came out commemorating the company’s 110 years “Constance and Leaps” by the Padova director Federico Massa, where he starred as himself in the role of pioneer in the tractor company where he spent his life loving and developing the company that today has 500 employees, 5 subsidiaries (Spain, USA, Turkey, Chile, France), 650 dealers and sales outlets throughout the world.

Massey Ferguson announced a fresh new look for its iconic MF Triple Triangle logo and its new “Born to Farm” brand identity to celebrate its 175 year anniversary in 2022.

“Massey Ferguson has been offering farmers around the world straightforward and dependable machines since its inception nearly 175 years ago. Few brands around the world can claim such a lasting impact in the agricultural industry. Massey Ferguson was truly ‘Born to Farm’,”

said Eric Hansotia, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of AGCO Corporation.

Luis Felli, senior vice president, and general manager for Massey Ferguson adds,

“Massey Ferguson is now pivoting from being a pure farm machinery manufacturer into a provider of straightforward and dependable experiences that provide the best value for farmers and make their business more profitable and sustainable. This globally consistent, farmer-first approach enables customers to experience the transformation of the brand in a unique way all over the world. Complemented by a synchronized Global organization, it was only natural to launch a new logo during this unprecedented moment in our history.”

“2022 will be THE year of the new Massey Ferguson global brand. We have been thinking of a new logo since we unveiled the MF NEXT Concept at Agritechnica 2019. MF New Era started to come to life with the MF 8S launch in July 2020 followed by the launch of a full line of products these past 18 months, including our September 2021 Born to Farm Digital Event. November is an iconic month for the brand, falling exactly 63 years after the announcement of the brand’s creation and its iconic logo. As we celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Daniel Massey’s first farm equipment workshop in 2022, we felt it was the perfect time to refresh the logo while introducing a new meaningful tagline,”

said Francesco Murro, Massey Ferguson vice president of global marketing, sales enablement & partnerships.

The Massey Ferguson Triple Triangle – The most recognizable icon from 1958

“The triple triangle shape is a strong icon that has embodied Massey Ferguson since 1958. Our new logo is a mix between our strong heritage and fresh brand values. The three triangles overlap to represent the mutually beneficial relationship and trust between farmers, dealers, and the brand,”

added Mr. Murro.

“Working as one Massey Ferguson Global Team, we aim to make farming operations easier, more profitable, and more sustainable across the globe. We want to use this new logo to invite farmers, more than ever, to become part of the Born to Farm Massey Ferguson family. We also took this opportunity to transition to a modern, sleek and flat design while giving the logo life through the interaction of three triangles interlocking one into the other. Drawing it with one single, solid, and straightforward gesture creates the appearance of movement. The flat design is very reflective of our current digital world, allowing us to manipulate the logo to bring it to life for our websites, applications on smartphones and smartwatches, or even the screens inside the machines themselves,”

says Alfredo Jobke, director marketing global Massey Ferguson.

“Our September 2021 Born to Farm event was the first expression of this new logo and its “Born to Farm” tagline. The great feedback and amazing enthusiasm we received, pushed us to really go for it.

2021 heralds a big anniversary for Pottinger, the Austrian family-owned agricultural technology company: “Honour the past – be the future” is the headline for celebrating their 150-year success story. What started as a small workshop in Grieskirchen (AT), developed into an internationally successful agricultural machinery manufacturer.

In 1871 the clocks were set for success

It all started at a festival: Franz Pöttinger was a resourceful master clockmaker who in the 19th century was already highly innovative and looking towards the future. From his point of view, the precision of a timepiece could also be applied to machines for making farmers’ hard work easier. This meant that the forage chopping machine’s time had come. And for it, he was awarded the Silver Prize Medal at the Linz Festival (AT) in 1871. That was 150 years ago, the same year the company was founded. Pottinger has been serving the agricultural technology industry ever since.

In addition to the forage chopping machine, the company also produced fruit mills and presses, harvesters for silage and forage, brushwood chippers, and potato harvesters. In the 1950s, one of the best-selling machines was a loader for hay, straw, grass, and beet leaves. A few years later, the conveyor rake revolutionized mountain farming. This paved the way for the “Green product range“. Following continuous ongoing development, the hay loader soon became the forerunner for the loader wagon. Pottinger has been the world market leader in this segment ever since. Acquiring the Bavarian Plough Factory (DE) opened the door for the grassland specialist to enter the tillage market in 1975. Power harrows, stubble cultivators, and plows were then added to the product range. The third key area of competence was seed drill technology. The company successfully entered this market in 2001 by taking over the Rabe plant in Bernburg (DE).

Pottinger flags are raised all over the world

Following the first exhibitions at trade fairs in Austria and neighboring countries, international success started in 1999 with the foundation of the first sales subsidiary in France. Another 14 subsidiaries in Europe, the USA, and Asia followed, the most recent achievement being the opening of the subsidiary in Poland in 2020.

Honor the past – be the future.

Pottinger has always felt a strong connection to farmers. Recent events in particular have shown how important it is for everybody to have a sufficient supply of high-quality food.

“At Pottinger, we have been working for the success of our customers for more than 150 years. As a family-owned company, Pottinger takes its responsibility for future generations and the environment very seriously. It is our duty to develop agricultural technology that allows and promotes all aspects of farming also in the future,”

is how Gregor Dietachmayr, Spokesperson for the Management Team, outlines the company’s strategy for the future.

Automation has helped keep team members safe and remove waste from processes in the plants at Vermeer. However, the automated guided vehicles (AGVs) were damaged in the tornado to the point that they had to be decommissioned.

Robotics continues to drive innovation in manufacturing at Vermeer

From welding robots that complete tedious and repetitive weld tasks on the shop floor to automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that move heavy carts, automation has helped keep team members safe and remove waste from processes. Vermeer’s journey with AGVs began in 2016 when two units were installed to carry carts between Plants 6 and 7. However, after the July 2018 tornado took out Plants 5 and 6, the AGVs and the infrastructure to support them in Plants 6 and 7 were damaged to the point that they had to be decommissioned. We’re excited to share the next generation of automation at Vermeer – autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

Before Vermeer gets into that, here’s a quick rundown on the history of these handy cart-moving robots and the technology behind them. AGVs have been around since the early 1950s – back then, they were guided by a set path of wires on the floor. AGVs continued with methods like wire, tape lines, and painted lines for the next 60 years. Within the past 15 years, they’ve adopted much of the same technology now used in self-driving cars. This navigation allows AGVs to detect when an obstruction is in their path, causing them to stop. However, they ultimately still follow a fixed path.

AMRs – which are used today in Plant 4 – follow a fixed path, but they can also make basic decisions. Where an AGV would see an obstruction and stop, an AMR can find a way around the obstruction. This is thanks to their navigation, which reads the contours in the immediate environment to figure out its location in the plant, unlike the AGVs in Plants 6 and 7 that relied on reflectors and pushbuttons placed along a specified route to navigate.

The AMRs in Plant 4 currently use this laser-based navigation – called natural navigation – to bring parts from central receiving to the assembly line.
