DLG APPROVED. The test serves to highlight special innovations and key criteria of the subject of the test. However, approved does not equal approved since there is a certain evaluation scope in which some products perform better, others not so well. The Fliegl SKATE 150 with its well-known Fliegl screw distributors is DLG APPROVED with excellent ratings in all test criteria.

The manure distributor SKATE 150 mounted to a PFW Jumbo Line Plus 18000 was put
through its paces on Fliegl’s own test bench. The modules “Function and operating
principle” as well as “Handling, operation and maintenance” were assessed. The first
includes the quality of the lateral distribution of cattle and pig manure and the
determination of the time it takes for the manure to reach all outlets at the beginning of an application run. The second module evaluates how and with what effort the typical
operating steps and more frequent maintenance work can be carried out.

Testing module 1: Function and operating principle

When spreading the two types of manure with two different outputs of 560 rpm and 390
rpm, small mean deviations between 3.0% and 3.8% were determined. This means that
all test results can be rated “very good (++)” according to the DLG rating scheme.
As to the time it takes for the manure to reach all outlets at the beginning of an application
run: It only takes a maximum of 2.6 seconds for all 60 outlets of the distributor to be
supplied with slurry. This time results for the more viscous cattle manure at a lower volume
flow. Basically the test shows, the higher the volume flow and the thinner the substrate,
the shorter this time period.

Testing module 2: Handling, operation and maintenance

This category includes four disciplines, two of which are subject to changeover. Converting
from transport to working position as well as converting from working to transport position
only takes 26 seconds. The folding speed is limited by the specifications of the safety
standard. The „Easy Comfort Control” operates the folding and unfolding, optionally via
ISOBUS.

Who does not know the annoying and so important lubrication? With the Fliegl SKATE,
however, this is done in no time. The four lubrication points can be lubricated with grease
and a brush in just 63 seconds. The lubricating points are located on both supports of the
transport safety device and on the two carrier brackets of the slope compensation, so that all lubricating points are easily accessible and can be easily lubricated with the distributor
in the working position while standing upright.

The final test of the module includes emptying the storage boxes. The SKATE 150 has two screw distributors, so two storage boxes have to be emptied. This is done by hydraulically opening the brass gate valves. All foreign bodies that were in the substrate
and were collected in the storage boxes flow out. This process, from actuation to emptying,
takes between 5 and 7 seconds. If a visual inspection takes place at each storage box,
the maximum time required is 40 seconds.

The trailing shoe distributor SKATE impresses with excellent distribution qualities, best
times and easy and convenient maintenance work. It was therefore rightly awarded the “DLG-APPROVED” test mark.

The Fliegl trailing shoe distributor SKATE 150 has a working width of 15 meters. Two
Fliegl screw distributors, each with 30 outlets, are installed in it. The inner diameter of the
hoses is 40 mm. Due to the special frame and distributor construction, the SKATE
convinces with stability and yet low dead weight. It is designed in such a way that the
entire distributor rests on the floor. Thus, no vertical load is lost. In addition, automatic
slope compensation is integrated as standard.

The spring-loaded slotted shoes ensure optimal ground tracking. A pressure of 8 kg per
shoe acts on each coulter, so that hardly any nitrogen is lost to the environment. If the
entire working width of the spreader is not required, adjustment is possible via hydraulic
section control combined with bypass control. Individual outlets can also be regulated by
shutting off individual hoses.

The narrower the device, the safer it is for road trips. The Fliegl SKATE ensures an
extremely narrow transport position with especially suitable swivel joints. With a working
width of 15 m, the transport position is 2.6 m and which also guarantees good all-round
visibility. Furthermore, thanks to the folding mechanism, no outlet hoses are kinked when
folding out and in.

Besides the working width of 15 m, the Fliegl SKATE is available in widths of 6 m, 7.5 m,
9 m, 12 m, 18 m, 21 m and 24 m. The right model is therefore available for every company.
In addition, the smart distributor with low oil consumption cannot only be retrofitted to Fliegl manure tanks, but also to many tanks from other manufacturers.

TWIN nozzle

In addition to the trailing shoes installed as standard, the TWIN nozzles can be selected
as an option. These V-shaped trailing shoe nozzles divide the liquid manure flow and thus
double the volume of liquid manure applied. At the same time, it halves the amount of
liquid manure per outlet. Thereby, there is less forage contamination from residues or
crusts from manure bands and a better infiltration due to a smaller amount of substrate
per applied manure band. This ensures a more efficient liquid manure spreading.

Liquid manure serves as an important agricultural fertilizer and contributes significantly to
plant growth and thus to the success of farmers in the fields. For more than 25 years, Fliegl has been manufacturing manure distributors equipped with an in-house developed screw conveyor for application close to the ground.

The trailing shoe spreader “Skate” has been on the market since 2016 and is available in working widths of 6 m, 7.5 m, 9 m, 12 m, 15 m, 18 m, 21 m, and 24 m. A test by the DLG (German Agricultural Society) proves that years of experience in the field of application technology have a very positive effect on practical use.

The Fliegl Skate 120 is a trailing shoe spreader with a working width of twelve meters. Thanks to the sophisticated design of frame and applicator, the “Skate” is a true lightweight construction with its 1,300 kg. Nevertheless, it impresses with an extremely robust and durable structure.

The application of liquid manure inevitably results in emissions because the ammonium
nitrogen contained in the liquid manure is converted into gaseous ammonia when it comes
into contact with air.

This needs to be prevented as far as possible because this nutrient is an important factor for plant growth. In order to avoid emissions as best as possible, an application close to the ground is essential. Short discharge hoses and a colter pressure of 8 kg, as well as spring-loaded shoes, ensure optimal conditions during manure driving and an exact application of the manure close to the ground. With the “Skate”, in flat regions as well as in mountainous areas, Fliegl focuses on agricultural success through technical innovations.

On the slope, the “Skate” impresses with the slope compensation it is equipped with as a standard. This ensures an equal manure spreading also on uneven surfaces. Furthermore, the Skate enables good tramline management and precise application at field boundaries thanks to the optional individual hose shut-off for the outlets. Either mechanical or hydraulic section control is optionally available for the Skate 120.

The screw conveyor contributes to the decisive advantage of the “Skate”. The principle is simple: The “Skate” 120 has 24 hose outlets on each side, each having a diameter of 40 mm. The distance between the hoses is 25 cm. The augers prevent these outlets from becoming blocked.

The control changes the direction of rotation at short intervals. The augers rotate outwards for about 20 seconds to remove foreign objects such as wood and ear tags. Then they are turned backward for about five seconds in order to remove coarse residues from the holes of the hose outlets. Two of these screw conveyors are installed in the tested Skate 120.

At the end of the applicator, there is a storage box with a brass gate valve that can be
opened mechanically or hydraulically if required. The foreign bodies are collected in these
storage boxes which are then emptied by the driver.

With the TWIN nozzle, Fliegl offers a good solution for those who fear forage contamination from liquid manure bands in the field. The reduction of the distance between the manure bands to 125mm increases the substrate infiltration. The TWIN nozzles ensure an optimal work result in terms of lateral and longitudinal distribution.

Simple and convenient handling is important in order to avoid operating errors and to be
able to employ changing drivers without long training periods. Here, the drag shoe distributor impresses with its “Easy” control, which can optionally also be operated via ISOBUS. With the help of three attached angle sensors, the folding of the distributor’s arms is monitored in every position, which enables dampened folding even on slopes. To unfold, the distributor lifts out of the transport lock, folds the distributor arms back, and then lowers into the working position. This is done by using the automatic folding mechanism.

Then, the discharge slide is opened using the automatic discharge control and the augers
start to work. The automatic headland control switches off the augers close the slide and
fold up the distributor, which prevents liquid manure from dripping.

Maintenance, which is also important for successfully working with the “Skate”, is easy
due to the good accessibility of the four lubrication points. In general, the trailing shoe
distributor is very user-friendly. The outlet hoses do not kink thanks to the special folding
mechanism. Furthermore, the Skate has an already integrated overpressure protection
and many other impressive technical details.

You are always safe in road transport with the “Skate”. The transport width is extremely
compact at 2600 mm at the bottom and 2300 mm at the top. The trailing shoe distributor
also impresses due to its very low height.

A body that combines the good properties of a dump truck for fieldwork and the positive features of heavy-duty bodies from the construction sector would therefore be ideal. It is precisely this all-around vehicle that Fliegl created with the new TMK 266 S PROFI.

In order to be able to combine these requirements in one vehicle, Fliegl relies on extremely

Also to be emphasized is the better slope stability, which plays a major role, for example in gravel pits with greasy surface soil on slight hills. The Gigant Plus JUMBO axle unit which is installed as standard provides a high level of stability and a significant increase in driving comfort. In this chassis, springs are installed underneath the axles which ideally dampen vibrations and ensure that the vehicle has a low center of gravity.

The topic of forage contamination in grassland due to possible remnants of the applied liquid manure is of concern to many farmers and it is not only influenced by the weather, the viscosity of the substrate and the cutting time but also by the slurry application technique. It is well known that ground-level manure spreading causes less forage contamination than wide-spreading systems but under certain circumstances remains or crusts of the manure bands of the drag hose and trailing shoe may be left behind. The new trailing shoe outlet TWIN from Fliegl minimizes these residues.

The system consists of Y-shaped divided trailing shoe outlet nozzles. Y-shaped in this case means that the number of applying trailing shoe outlet nozzles is twice as high as the number of outlet holes on the auger box. The liquid manure is distributed evenly and with the utmost precision to the outlet hoses with the help of the auger distributor. At the end of the hose, the jet of slurry is split at the Y-nozzle TWIN. It is possible to retrofit the TWIN to existing Fliegl trailing shoe distributors.

By splitting the flow of liquid manure, TWIN doubles the amount of the applied slurry bands and at the same time the amount of manure per slurry band is halved. The band distance is halved from 250 mm to 125 mm whilst the net weight of the trailing shoe distributor almost remains the same. With the TWIN, the weight of the trailing shoe distributor Skate increases only slightly by approx. 2 kg per meter working width while halving the band distance. Especially in wet and swampy soil conditions, a low weight of the attached trailing shoe distributor is extremely important. The positive result is less damage to the soil structure.

The basically economic system of the trailing shoe distributor, which is characterized mainly by the enormous area output at relatively low investment costs per meter working width, is maintained by the TWIN. In addition, the efficiency of manure spreading is increased and a lower loss rate of ammonium nitrogen saves costs for mineral fertilizer.

Furthermore, the trailing shoe distributor gains added value by the perfected application of liquid manure, because the infiltration of the substrate can be better achieved. This is ensured in particular since a single slurry band contains only half of the substrate. Highest precision combined with a phenomenal lateral and longitudinal distribution complete the work pattern.

Not only the increase in nitrogen utilization, but also the increase in cutting frequency in grassland speaks for more efficiency. With other distribution systems, as for example the application with drag hoses, a longer time is needed until the last slurry crusts have largely disappeared.

The TWIN promises a reduction in forage contamination. By reducing forage contamination, the grass ensiling process can be done without any problems. A bad fermentation process in the silo can lead to mould and rot of the silage. This has a negative impact on animal health. It is not uncommon that the fertility of cows suffers from a lack in forage quality.
