Mecalac welcomed five dealers to its network in 2020. The new dealers significantly expand Mecalac’s coverage across the eastern U.S., as well as provide a toehold for the company on the West Coast and in several key Canadian markets. These partnerships increase access and customer support for existing Mecalac customers and help bring the company’s innovative lineup to new regions across the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.

“Mecalac is always looking for innovative ways to address industry challenges and improve our customers’ productivity. We aren’t happy with the status quo and believe our dealers shouldn’t be either. We’re building relationships with dealers who believe in our approach, share our values, and aren’t afraid of new solutions. We’re excited about our growing North American network and look forward to increasing access to Mecalac products and services across the continent.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

Helping connect Mecalac with contractors in central Pennsylvania is Wood’s CRW Corporation. With nearly 60 years of industry experience, this relationship-driven heavy equipment distributor services the northeastern U.S. through locations in Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, and Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Illinois-based Hall Equipment will help with sales and service for contractors in the Greater St. Louis region. They specialize in excavation equipment and have more than 20 years of experience in the construction, aggregate, and mining industries.

Trekker Group will expand Mecalac’s coverage throughout Florida. The group originated in Puerto Rico more than 66 years ago and reached the mainland U.S. in 2010. Trekker Tractor, the equipment sales rental and service division, will offer Mecalac products at six locations throughout Florida. The company provides equipment, tools, and accessories, supplies, and materials for a variety of industries.

On the West Coast, Fontana, California-based Scott Equipment is a full-service dealership featuring new and used equipment sales, fully equipped shop/field service department capabilities, an experienced parts department, and a wide range of equipment rental machines. The family-owned dealership has been serving the Southern California heavy construction market for nearly 50 years with two locations.

Gear Equipment is dedicated to bringing brand new, innovative, and unparalleled technology to Canadian contractors, making them an ideal partner for Mecalac. Through locations in Ontario and soon in British Columbia, Gear Equipment will offer Mecalac’s complete range of compact and powerful excavators, both tracked and wheeled, as well as loaders and site dumpers.

“As a relatively new player in the North American market, we’re working hard to make a lasting first impression. We believe in the game-changing productivity of our machines. Our dealers do, too. Together, we’ll help every contractor in North America recognize the extraordinary versatility Mecalac machines provide.”

Bigwood said.

Each of these new dealers will work with Mecalac to provide customers the most efficient and ideal machine for the job at hand. Their offerings include Mecalac’s innovative line of crawler skid-excavators — the MCR Series — as well as the company’s MWR Series of wheeled excavators and AS Series swing loaders.

Mecalac welcomes Trekker Group to its growing dealer network. The Trekker Group is one of five dealers Mecalac added in 2020 to expand coverage across North America. Trekker Group will offer Mecalac’s innovative line of crawler skid-excavators — the MCR Series — as well as the company’s MWR Series of wheeled excavators and AS Series swing loaders at six locations throughout Florida. The partnership creates a solid foundation for sales and service in the Southeast and Gulf Coast regions as Mecalac works to bring its game-changing productivity to job sites across America.

“Growing a brand — especially one as unique as Mecalac — requires a strong partner with exemplary customer service. Trekker Group recognizes Mecalac’s potential for their landscaping and construction customers. They also have the support network necessary for helping us foster a whole new way of thinking about the job site.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

Trekker Group originated in Puerto Rico more than 66 years ago, reaching the mainland U.S. in 2010 with the establishment of Trekker Tractor. Several divisions of the company, including the original Puerto Rico Wire Group, continue to provide construction wire products, tools, and accessories across Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. In addition to Trekker Tractor, the equipment sales rental and service division, the group also manages Trekker Distributor in the U.S. This division provides concrete formwork and shoring supplies and design consultation services, as well as multiple construction equipment lines throughout Florida and most states in the Southeast.

As part of Trekker’s equipment lineup, Mecalac’s newly updated 6MCR, 8MCR, and 10MCR offer superior speed, productivity, and compact operation over traditional mini-excavators. The machines combine the quickness of a skid steer with the 360-degree rotation of an excavator for versatility and travel speeds two times faster than any small excavator. Using a range of attachments, contractors can easily do the job of several machines with a single unit, freeing up resources and space and boosting productivity.

“Partnering with Mecalac is an ideal fit with our customer base. We focus on on-site work, utilities, water treatment plants, pool contractors, landscapers, and municipalities. Jobsites are often crowded and difficult to access. Mecalac equipment is compact, highly maneuverable and the most innovative machines our industry has seen in the last 50 years. With Mecalac our customers can be more resourceful and efficient. We’re happy to be able to help make that happen.”

said Adam Stegeman, vice president of operations for Trekker Group.

“Mecalac equipment is compact, highly maneuverable and the most innovative machines our industry has seen in the last 50 years,” said Adam Stegeman, vice president of operations for Trekker Group.
Trekker Tractor will also offer the 7MWR, 9MWR, 11MWR, and 15MWR, which feature a revolutionary design that addresses pain points often encountered with wheeled excavators.

“Mecalac products are designed to simplify the lives of our users without compromising on performance. Our MCR series provides the quickness of a skid steer with the 360-degree rotation of an excavator for versatility and travel speeds two times faster than any compact excavator. But sometimes speed isn’t everything. Speed Control allows operators to easily match their speed to the task.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

With the turn of a dial, operators can easily select their desired speed. When combined with the flexibility from a range of attachments — including mowers, mulchers, sweepers, snowblowers, and many more — the Speed Control system maximizes versatility for all MCR series units, increasing productivity and job site efficiency. Mecalac’s patented quick coupler, CONNECT, another advanced feature standard on the MCR series further increase speed and ease of use by allowing operators to switch between attachments without leaving the cab for greater efficiency in a variety of tasks.

Mecalac offers its innovative “Speed Control” travel speed management system standard on all MCR crawler skid excavator models.

“The MCR series is like a high-tech multi-tool; you really can do it all with a single machine. They don’t need a mower and a skid steer and an excavator. There’s an attachment for every task, and now a speed setting that matches. With Speed Control, operators don’t need to worry about trying to maintain a certain speed; they can just focus on the task at hand.”

Bigwood said.

MCR units also feature Mecalac’s innovative three-part arm and a 360-degree rotating ability for an extended range of movement and game-changing compactness. Operators can do more from a single position or within confined spaces with increased flexibility and reach while minimizing unnecessary movement. The three-part arm can also be tucked in, allowing for extra compactness and mobility without overbalancing the unit in the front — resulting in a true zero-turn radius. In addition, the boom system gives the MCR unprecedented lifting capacities — pound for pound, exceeding anything else on the market.

Replacing the outgoing EC55C, the more powerful and productive EC60E crawler excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment is built for comfortable, efficient operation in a wide variety of applications.

The new EC60E crawler excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is built to fit any jobsite – from confined spaces to major construction projects. This machine offers improved traction, excellent swing force and high lifting capacity to achieve outstanding results, fast. With a compact design, long arm, and optional fixed boom and offset boom, the versatile and powerful EC60E is suitable for a large range of applications.

Power + control = easier, faster operation

To ensure optimum performance shift after shift, this machine is equipped with a Volvo Stage V/Tier 4 final engine and adjustable hydraulic flow. The effective cooling system is driven by 44.3kW of power to eliminate overheating.

The EC60E’s highly responsive controls ensure the machine does exactly what the operator intends for fluent movement throughout operation. The operator can set the machine to their own style and to suit the job at hand for easier control and increased performance. The auxiliary hydraulic flows, electric dozer blade and boom offset speed can be adjusted by the operator and tailored to three different work response modes –‘Active’, ‘Normal’ or ‘Soft’.

The EC60E is fitted with an upgraded hydraulics system that features a new design of main control valve. Offering the operator additional functionality, when a higher hydraulic flow is required for a certain movement, the main control valve can combine the flow of several pumps to optimize the machine operation. Particularly for grading, flow can be combined into the arm cylinder to make arm speed faster.

Multi-function tool carrier

For outstanding versatility, the EC60E can be equipped with a wide range of durable attachments that are suitable for a wide range of applications, including utilities, building, agriculture, landscaping and forestry. These attachments can be easily changed to save time and reduce costs, and the machine’s design, hydraulics, piping and in-cab switches combined with the Volvo attachments range to allow the EC60E to take on a variety of tasks with ease.

The addition of either a mechanical or a hydraulic quick coupler allows attachments to be changed quickly and efficiently. A complete range of buckets from general purpose reinforced buckets to ditching buckets is available, allowing the machine to work on a wide range of applications. Volvo’s durable hydraulic breakers are fully compatible with the EC60E. The wide range of breaker tools (or bits) has been built to break all kinds of material and combines excellent performance with low noise and vibration levels. The machine can also be equipped with the Volvo thumb, designed to work with both Volvo direct fit buckets and quick coupler to make many tasks possible, including piling, placing, loading, lifting and carrying.

Lower costs, greater uptime

The Volvo engine and improved hydraulics work together to offer superior fuel efficiency. With the auto engine shutdown option – a feature offered by Volvo alone – the engine stops automatically after a pre-selected time, lowering fuel costs and noise. Helping to lower fuel bills further is the standard-fit ECO mode. When activated, the function slightly decreases the engine speed – but not performance, resulting in lower fuel consumption. A stopped hour meter reduces maintenance costs and increases the resale value of the machine.

The EC60E is equipped with a number of features combined to increase machine availability and reduce downtime. Ground level service access and convenient greasing points reduce service time and maintenance costs. Service intervals can easily be monitored via the in-cab screen, which shows reminders when maintenance is needed.

This excavator is equipped with Volvo MATRIS software that analyzes operator behavior to improve efficiency, boost productivity and reduce fuel and maintenance costs. Volvo also offers the VCADS Pro diagnostic system, making it easy to control the machine.

A new Hitachi ZX300LCN-6 medium excavator has been selected by Construções Gabriel A.S. Couto S.A. (Gabriel Couto) to help it construct a new taxiway and other access points at Porto Airport in the north of Portugal. The machine, delivered by authorised local Hitachi dealer Moviter, will support Gabriel Couto’s operations at the demanding 250,000m² site.

The first phase of the project involves excavating and earthmoving to prepare the area. For phase two Gabriel Couto will move to the airside where the taxiway will be extended and connected to the runway, and other facilities completed. The ZX300LCN-6 is being used for general earthmoving and levelling activities.

Selecting the best machines

The project is scheduled for completion in March 2020 and the arrival of the ZX300LCN-6 brings the number of Hitachi machines in Gabriel Couto’s fleet to 20. Director Tiago Couto has long been convinced of their reliability: “We purchased our first Hitachi machine (a 30-tonne excavator) 28 years ago and it worked productively for over 20 years.

“This year, we needed to increase our fleet in order to execute this important project. Therefore, I was looking for the best possible package of equipment from Moviter and Hitachi machines played a key role in my decision. Ultimately, we have to satisfy our client’s wishes, so the equipment we select is crucial in setting a benchmark and further improving our performance.”

Positive feedback

Tiago has been highly satisfied with the performance of the Hitachi ZX300LCN-6: “The maintenance is one of the best aspects about the excavator and this gives me confidence that it will keep on performing to a high standard. The positive feedback I have from my operators and maintenance teams also supports this.

“In addition, the resale value remains strong on Hitachi machines, which keeps their total cost of ownership competitive. The fuel consumption is continually improving with its newest excavators and the engines are more efficient than ever. Compared to others on the market, Hitachi excavators simply deliver the best productivity and the highest level of reliability.”

The 15MC is the result of Mecalac’s combined expertise in wheeled and crawler excavators. This expertise has lead to an exclusive Mecalac solution, combining compactness, stability, safety, accessibility, ease of driving, lifting power and economy. The 15MC, an unprecedented machine that gives a new distinguished name to the crawler excavator, “made by Mecalac”.

The best of both worlds for the new 15MC

The design and performance of this new Mecalac machine have been tailored to meet very demanding specifications. The result? A compact machine with XXL digging power, which can work very close to the motor yet offering an exceptional working range of 9 m. Equipped with a loader bucket with a capacity of up to 1000 litres, ultra-robust, it benefits from the latest patented Mecalac interior and exterior technologies that are behind the success of the 15MWR wheeled version launched in May 2017, i.e.: coupling of the cylinders, patented reversible Connect quick coupler, central control selector. Combined with a 100kW engine that makes it the most powerful machine in its class.

Ease of movement

Of a suitable weight in confined urban construction sites, the 15MC and its 3-section arm with kinematics incorporating an offset that allows work beyond the machine’s normal operating perimeter, combine power with compactness. Without special manoeuvring, the machine is always ideally positioned with remarkable precision on difficult sites. Be it behind an obstacle or as close as possible to a wall – the new 15MC can excavate, lift and load up to 50% of its own weight to a height of 3m with exceptional economy of motion. And the unique movement of its articulated arm offers a range of up to 9 m in a single action. A range combined with unequalled precision and power, which allows the excavator to work equally effectively close to or at its extension limit.

The new 15MC is also fitted as standard with 500mm tracks and – optionally – with 600 mm tracks or with a road liner as required. It can be equipped with a choice of 3 boom versions: the versatile Mecalac boom, the excavator boom and the excavator boom with offset. Satisfying all the requirements of urban construction sites!

The 15MC keeps an eye on construction sites

The human eye is still the most effective means of monitoring construction sites. This is why the 15MC has been redesigned to maximize the operator’s direct field of vision. At the back, the lines of the hood have been redesigned to merge smoothly with the rounded rear window to clear the operator’s line of sight.

The boom of the Mecalac arm folds, maximizing lateral visibility.

The 2-part retractable wind shield and the opening door windows allow the operator to be in direct contact with the site environment. With mirrors and 2 perfectly integrated cameras supplied as standard, the cab offers a new vision to the operator, who can now completely focus on the site environment while controlling his Mecalac machine.

Incomparable interior and exterior ergonomics

By adapting the upper carriage of the 15MWR to the 15MC, Mecalac has transferred the advantages and benefits for sites and for the men who work on them to create a compact machine for the urban environment. From the tank located in the lower section and protected by a 12mm plate through the ease of access to the components for ground level maintenance, to perfect cab accessibility that minimizes the risk of accidents, it is immediately obvious that the 15MC is a crawler excavator whose ergonomic design and equipment are unparalleled on the market.

Inside the spacious ROPS FOPS cab, all standard equipment is provided to maximize comfort and ease of operation for the operator. In addition to the sliding door and the refrigerated compartment, the air conditioning and heating, the intuitive layout of the controls and the large 7” screen combine with the camera to display views of the site as soon as the reverse gear is activated. In addition, with the 3 modes – standby, eco and power – the operator can optimize the speed of his machine and, by extension, its fuel consumption.

Whatever the requirements and demands, the 15MC guarantees maximum economy with its unequalled performance, the safety of personnel on building sites and a simplicity of use which ushers in a new generation of compact crawler excavators; powerful, versatile and ultra-mobile in the world of construction and public works.

“The new 15 MC opens the way for new approaches to excavation even in complex site contexts. With extreme compactness and safety, it proves that excavator operation in an urban environment can be synonymous with efficiency, power and fluidity.” Patrick Brehmer, head of marketing, product management & design
