Massey Ferguson Celebrates the 175th Anniversary
2022 is Massey Ferguson’s 175th anniversary and the brand will celebrate this milestone achievement with a special vintage showcase featuring museum-quality tractors from across the area. Balancing the impressive heritage display will be many of today’s most popular Massey Ferguson machines and implements, including a full display of the brand’s new S Series tractors, a first-time opportunity for FPS attendees. This dependable tractor lineup – the 8S, 7S, 6S, and 5S series – combines innovative features with Massey Ferguson’s proven reliability for a cost-effective, farmer-driven solution.

“We’re excited to celebrate Massey Ferguson’s 175 years with the farmers – as well as many of the tractors – that made them possible. This heritage display alongside our newest solutions shows Massey Ferguson’s constant evolution over the decades to provide the straightforward and dependable machines our farmers have needed.”

said Darren Parker, vice president of Massey Ferguson, North America.

Cutting-Edge Products from Fendt
AGCO’s Fendt brand will exhibit an array of its innovative and farmer-focused equipment at this year’s Farm Progress Show and unveil an updated version of one of its most popular tractors. Many of Fendt’s latest revolutionary and award-winning products will be featured in the AGCO booth, including the Fendt Rogator 900 Series applicator, the Fendt Momentum planter, the Fendt IDEAL 10T combine, and FendtONE equipped tractors. Attendees will enjoy a hands-on opportunity with a Fendt Rogator 900 Series applicator in the Ride ‘n’ Drive area.

Hesston by Massey Ferguson Marks 75th Anniversary with New Windrower, Large Square Baler, and Tedder
Hesston by Massey Ferguson continues to celebrate its 75th anniversary with displays of new equipment for hay producers. The new WR Series Windrower provides closed-center hydraulics for greater power or fuel economy, updated electronics with single or dual Datatronic 5 monitors, and new shielding for better airflow. The 2200 Series Large Square Baler also includes updated electronics with Massey Ferguson Connect telemetry, along with a five-bar pickup for higher capacity and poly wrappers for longer life. The TD X Series Tedder is new to North America and offers heavy-duty frames, tines, and drivelines to handle the toughest of silage crops.

2023 Model Year Marks Gleaner 100th Anniversary
AGCO’s Gleaner brand is preparing for its own milestone anniversary, as the 2023 model year marks 100 years of farmer-focused innovation and a simple and highly efficient harvest experience. Gleaner will have a commemorative display in the booth along with its lineup of innovative harvesting equipment for 2023 in anticipation of next year’s anniversary.

GSI to Showcase GrainVue Grain Management System
GSI’s large exhibit in the AGCO booth will highlight its innovative GrainVue grain management system. GrainVue leverages digital cable technology to monitor stored grain temperature and moisture to provide alerts and automatic activation of fans to help prevent out-of-condition issues. The system uses cloud-based connectivity to enable remote management via mobile or desktop devices. With automatic updates and alerts, one person can manage multiple bins.

“Keeping a close eye on grain conditions and inventory lets growers pursue higher premiums and get the most out of every bushel they harvest.”

explains Greg Trame, director of technology sales for GSI.

Precision Ag Solutions from Fuse
Precision ag drives efficiencies across entire farming operations and AGCO’s Fuse technology will be on display throughout the booth and in the Fuse tent, which will be available between the Fendt and Massey Ferguson exhibits. Of particular interest will be Geo-Bird, a new and free operation planning tool for creating and optimizing way lines. Fuse’s precision ag experts will be on hand to help farmers manage their data across brands and accomplish more with less – a critical advantage to mixed-fleet operations as input costs increase.

Advanced connectivity enables Deere to fully embrace the IoT and revolutionize productivity in factory settings

John Deere has obtained 5G licenses in five counties in Iowa and Illinois as part of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction for the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) 3.5 GHz spectrum. This will enable John Deere to accelerate the availability of 5G in its largest manufacturing facilities in North America.

Rural counties are often left behind in the race to implement broadband – even though it is necessary to process large quantities of data and enable advances in smart manufacturing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other breakthrough technologies in these areas. By obtaining these licenses, John Deere will boost its wireless networks by providing access to 5G in its manufacturing facilities.

“John Deere has always focused on how to empower customers to do more with less by using technology, and our focus on tech goes way beyond the fields. It impacts everything single aspect of our business, and we’re constantly looking at ways to improve our own efficiencies and outcomes with it. Implementing 5G in our manufacturing facilities allows John Deere to make significant progress in our Smart Industrial strategy by turning factories into smart and connected manufacturing facilities – a critical piece of the industrial IoT.”

said Jahmy Hindman, Chief Technology Officer.

John Deere’s manufacturing facilities are extraordinarily complex environments that rely on automation and connectivity. With miles of embedded Ethernet cables connecting Wi-Fi drop points currently in factory ceilings, the facilities are faced with limited flexibility for setting up and upgrades. 5G enables private LTE networks and will allow John Deere to design a more flexible, nimble, and connected facility, creating opportunities for further advancement and greater efficiency that will transform the manufacturing process.

Private 5G LTE also creates the opportunity to expand factory capabilities leveraging edge computing, analytics, and autonomous devices, and empowers a larger set of smart applications like real-time location systems, asset tracking, inventory management, wearables, building automation, and robotics for operational cost savings.

John Deere will implement 5G at its manufacturing facilities in the following counties: Rock Island, Illinois; Scott County, Iowa; Dubuque, Iowa; Polk County, Iowa; Black Hawk County, Iowa. The rollout is set to occur during the fiscal year 2022.

Sukup Manufacturing Co. has designed and manufactured the world’s largest free-span grain bin, with a diameter of 165 feet. The previous record-holding bin has a diameter of 156 feet, which Sukup also manufactured and designed.

The ground was broken for the new bin on September 14, 2020, at Golden Grain Energy, an ethanol production plant in Mason City, Iowa. Representatives from Sukup Manufacturing attended, as well as representatives from partner organizations Buresh Building Systems Inc., a Sukup dealer located in Hampton, Iowa, and construction partner McGough Construction out of St. Paul, Minnesota.

The bin will hold 2.2 million bushels and will include 30 rings with a peak height of 155 feet and 7 inches. Construction is expected to be complete in May or June of 2021.

Chad Kuhlers, Golden Grain CEO, said,

“This system will increase GGE’s grain storage from approximately 1.275 million bushels to almost 3.5 million bushels. We currently have about 10 days of storage, and the addition of this bin will increase our storage capacity to approximately 30 days of storage. In addition, GGE will increase its receiving capacity from 40,000 bushels per hour to 65,000 bushels per hour.”

Brent Hansen, who manages commercial accounts for Sukup, said:

“Our customers often tell us that adding storage gives them one of the quickest returns on an investment in their facilities. Storing grain in Sukup bins keeps it in better condition versus a temporary pile, and it’s safer, easier, and cost-effective to reclaim the grain back into their processing facility. We always try to listen to our customers’ needs, which includes watching the bottom line!”

Steve Sukup, President, and CEO of Sukup Manufacturing, said:

Egg, pork producers are eligible for the fourth round of disposal assistance funding

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced that the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is continuing the Iowa Disposal Assistance Program (IDAP) to support Iowa farmers. Pork and egg producers forced to euthanize and dispose of market-ready and weaned pigs or layer hens because of supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19 are eligible for the fourth round of IDAP funding.

Secretary Naig said:

“Iowa is the largest producer of pork and egg products and our farmers have been unduly affected by supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The disposal assistance program is just one way the state is trying to help producers through this very difficult time.”

Iowa’s pork producers have made extremely difficult decisions over the past several months as COVID-19-related worker shortages caused meat processing facilities to reduce production. Pork producers donated to food security programs benefiting Iowa food banks and pantries, changed animals’ diets to slow the rate of growth and explored other markets to sell their products. While processing capacity has increased, the challenges continue.

Iowa’s egg producers have also faced distribution and disposal challenges because of COVID-19-related closures. Iowa is home to over 58 million egg-laying hens. Nearly 70 percent of Iowa’s layer flocks produce for the liquid egg market and are destined for restaurants, schools and other foodservice markets. When COVID-19 caused many of these establishments to shut down, the demand for liquid eggs plummeted. Liquid egg prices dropped by 68 percent, forcing many egg producers to reduce the size of their flocks. As a result, the Iowa Department of Agriculture expanded the IDAP program to include Iowa egg producers in round four funding.

IDAP Round Four Eligibility

The following Iowa producers can now apply for round four disposal assistance:

1. Pork producers who euthanized and properly disposed of market-ready hogs between June 23 and July 20, 2020. Eligible producers may receive $40 per market-ready hog (weighing at least 225 pounds).

2. Pork producers who euthanized and properly disposed of weaned pigs between May 1 and July 20, 2020. Each approved applicant may receive $4 per weaned pig (up to 25 pounds).

3. Egg producers who euthanized and properly disposed of laying hens between April 1 and July 20, 2020. Each approved applicant may receive 25 cents per layer hen.

Eligible producers must apply by 11:59 p.m./CT on Aug. 6, at iowaagriculture.gov/idap. All producers must provide documentation, including proof of proper disposal and an affidavit from their herd veterinarian confirming impending welfare issues, to receive funding. All paperwork must be received by the Department of Agriculture by 11:59 p.m./CT on Aug. 14.

Vermeer Corporation has been named a 2020 Dealer’s Choice Award recipient by Equipment Dealers Association (EDA) within the shortline manufacturer category. The Dealer’s Choice awards are based on results from the EDA Dealer-Manufacturer Relations survey, given annually to equipment dealers throughout the country. This is the sixth time in eight years Vermeer has received this recognition.

The survey asked dealers to rate up to five manufacturer lines they carry in 12 key categories. The categories included topics such as overall satisfaction, product quality, product availability and product technical support. Vermeer was honored to have taken the number one spot in 10 of 12 categories.

“Ever since Gary Vermeer used to fly his plane across the country to personally deliver parts, taking care of our dealers and our customers is not only a part of who we are, it’s our number one priority. We believe our dealer channel is the best there is. They go above and beyond taking care of the customer with superior service, providing quality parts on quick timelines and expertise when it comes to hay making. Supporting them the same way they support our customers is the part that matters.”

said Vermeer Forage Solutions Managing Director Nathan Guess.

While it is an honor to be recognized by dealers as the company they prefer to do business with, Vermeer leaders recognize there are always areas for improvement. In fact, the next year may bring a different dynamic than most customers, dealers and manufacturers have seen before. Bret Julian, director of sales for Vermeer Forage Solutions, said the Vermeer team has embraced the challenge of finding creative solutions to support their dealers.

“At the beginning of 2020, none of us had an idea of what situation we were going to be in. When faced with the challenge of limited physical contact with our dealers due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our team quickly found alternative solutions to train and support them.”

Julian said.

Some of these solutions included one-on-one training from Vermeer field staff members and virtual sales and service training, allowing dealers to stay closer to home without sacrificing the education they need to support our customers.

On July 19, 2018, an EF3 tornado hit the Vermeer Mile, leaving behind a path of destruction – leaving the Vermeer team down, but not out. Part of the rubble left behind was the Eco Center – a hub where hazardous waste generated at Vermeer is used in alternative ways, by reprocessing or burning for fuel consumption.

“While we are a global company, the Eco Center is a tremendous example of taking our environmental responsibility seriously in our local community. I’m proud of the team who works in the Eco Center and what they do to make a real impact on the world around us.”

said President and CEO Jason Andringa.

Today, rated with the highest safety classifications, the new and improved Eco Center is open and complete with a built-in grounding grid, humidity-controlled air to reduce the risk of static discharge and an automatic flammable vapor-sensing system that monitors each of the air handling systems to react to different flammable vapor concentrations.

Solvents are key to effectively clean paint line and paint guns. In a year, the Eco Center collects and recycles 100 percent of the solvent Vermeer uses, which is more than 60,000 gallons. At Vermeer, all used oil is collected and recycled or used as an alternative energy source.

Wood waste on campus comes from various sources – primarily the pallets and crates that bring steel, engines and other high-quality components to be used in the manufacturing process. The waste that can be reused into pallets is used as is, which amounts to 40,000 pallets a year. What can’t be reused as a pallet is grinded by an HG4000 horizontal grinder into mulch.

Yellow iron starts as raw steel before hitting machining centers, lasers and cutters. Scraps and metal dust from these processes are collected. And because Vermeer recycles these 40 million pounds of scrap metal each year, it is one of the largest manufacturing recycling companies in Iowa.

Electronic waste, or e-waste, is the fastest growing area of waste. It accounts for 40% of lead and 75% of heavy metals that are found in landfills that can negatively impact our water systems. At Vermeer, they collect all e-waste and partner with electronic recyclers that disassemble and reuse the metals and potentially toxic materials while maintaining information and data security.

In addition to recycling efforts, Vermeer team is also responsible for the important task of safely handling our hazardous materials, such as chemicals. Inside Eco Center is a chemical warehouse. All hazardous chemicals are secured with additional safety features like intrinsically safe wiring, an emergency spill system and a similar, but more sensitive, flammable vapor sensor system.

Nearby, their solar field, installed with Vermeer equipment, captures sunlight and distributes this green energy to their facilities. What isn’t used onsite is fed to their community’s grid.

EHS Manager Stephen Kelly said:

“I am so proud to be part of this talented, motivated and fun team dedicated to making a positive impact for our internal Vermeer customers, while proactively working to minimize our environmental footprint as an organization.”

In the five years, TerraStar has expanded their signal offerings to match different farm needs, price points and geographical needs.

TerraStar is a high-quality correction source Ag Leader has offered since 2014. Which TerraStar is right for you? Check out the features of each option below.

TerraStar-L

This correction signal was introduced in mid-2017 to meet a few purposes. First, it was designed to be an entry-level repeatable correction source for countries with or without a freely available correction source.

Even countries with a satellite network like WAAS, make no claims to repeatability. This is where a subscription-based service like TerraStar-L comes in.

Signal Obstructions. TerraStar-L handles temporary obstructions such as trees, buildings, etc. better than just WAAS alone

TerraStar-L offers 4’’-6’’ repeatable accuracy and is available in annual subscriptions

TerraStar-L is available for both GPS 6500 and GPS 7500 receivers

One-year free subscription with every new GPS 7500 receiver purchase

TerraStar-C

TerraStar-C was the first TerraStar correction signal Ag Leader offered, starting when the GPS 6500 receiver was introduced in late 2014. This correction signal filled a need between those wanting something better than WAAS for high accuracy repeatable field operations such as spraying, planting or steering but did not need the absolute accuracy (nor cost) of RTK.

TerraStar-C is a correction signal option for the GPS 6500 receiver.

TerraStar-C provides 2”-4” (5cm) repeatable accuracy

TerraStar-C Pro

TerraStar-C Pro is an improved TerraStar signal created just for the GPS 7500 receiver. It offers quicker convergence and higher accuracy. TerraStar-C Pro fills the gap between cost and performance, simplicity and reliability.

Tobroco-Giant has unveiled what it deems to be a “worthy successor” to its V452T wheel loader – which for years has been its best-selling model.

Dubbed the G2700, this new kid on the block is more powerful than its predecessor when it comes to engine power and traction, Dutch brand Tobroco-Giant says.

Due to a higher operating weight, the tipping loads have “increased considerably” – which, the machinery brand says, makes the G2700 “a modern powerhouse with compact dimension”.

Courtesy of tobroco-giant.com

The G2700 is available in four different models, namely: the G2700 HD; G2700 X-TRA HD; G2700 HD+; and G2700 X-TRA HD+. All four models are powered by a three-cylinder Kubota engine with 50hp.All models are powered by a hydrostatic all-wheel drive with automotive steering.

In terms of highlights, the Dutch firm points out that, using the hydraulic quick coupler, it is possible to change tools within seconds and adapt the machine to the task at hand.

The articulated pendulum joint gives the G2700 a small turning circle, which allows the machine to operate in confined spaces.

This system also gives the wheel loaders a lot of stability because it ensures that all four wheels remain on the ground, even when working on uneven terrain, Tobroco-Giant says.

Courtesy of tobroco-giant.com

Both the G2700 HD and the G2700 X-TRA HD have an operating weight of 2,550kg. This gives the model with the standard lifting arm a lifting height of 2.96m and tipping load of 2.375kg. This extends to a tipping load of up to 2,900kg for the top model in the series, the firm says.

The G2700 models come standard with a ROPS/FOPS safety roof, double-acting hydraulic function on the lift arm and a “luxury suspension seat”.
