Derek Neilson to Step Down From His Role as Head of CNH’s Agricultural Segment

Derek Neilson, Head of Agricultural Segment at CNH, will leave the company later this year to pursue a new entrepreneurial project outside of the sector, after 25 years of dedicated service.

During his career with CNH, Derek has held a range of leadership positions, making major contributions to manufacturing, the former commercial vehicles division, the EMEA region, also serving for a time as interim CEO. For the past six years, he has overseen the transformation of CNH’s agricultural business and its accompanying record performance. Derek has developed a strong team that will continue to place the needs of CNH’s agricultural customers at the center of the business as the company continues the development of the next generation of digitally enabled products.

CNH Invests in Eco-Friendly Agriculture Supporting Nature’s Net Wrap, Canadian Bale Storage Start-Up

CNH is supporting the scientific development of the first viable compostable net wrap for bales in agriculture. Our investment in the Canadian start-up Nature’s Net Wrap aims to accelerate their mission to eliminate waste from the process of collecting and storing crops.

Shifting to compostable net wraps has the potential to significantly benefit farmers. It will reduce landfill use, haulage and disposal costs, eliminate soil contamination, improve animal safety, and reduce the risk of water contamination, resulting in a reduction of approximately 2.5 million tons of plastic waste per year.

High growth in this market is propelled by the general demand for chemical- and plastic-free solutions. Initial product launch is expected in 2024.

Baling in brief

When crop is cut, it is baled so that it can be transported and stored. Today, bales are held together with twine, wire, netting, or plastic wrap – all of which eventually end up in landfills or incinerators. Farmers are limited in the reuse or recycling of plastic wraps or nets, negatively impacting their environmental footprint.

The innovation and its benefits

This solution uses biopolymer material made from renewable resources. It holds up structurally and can either naturally break down in the earth’s soil or be composted. The investment is supporting the testing and validation of the solution. One of the industry-leading balers from New Holland Agriculture brand is producing all the bales in this testing phase.

This latest investment furthers CNH’s commitment to sustainably advance the work of farmers everywhere.

CNH Empowers Farmers with Disabilities with New Holland TL5 Accessible Tractor

CNH is committed to advancing the noble work of farming and prioritizes customer-inspired innovation to ensure solutions that meet the needs of all hardworking growers and builders. This includes serving customers who are living with disabilities.

The company’s work with Brazilian farmer Fernando Dalmolin is testament to this approach. In 2022, he suffered an accident leaving him with lower limb disabilities. Curitiba, Brazil New Holland Agriculture plant collaborated with him to develop the TL5 ‘Acessível’.

“This is just what people with disabilities like mine need to be able to work independently in the field. I am very happy and excited to be a part of this ground-breaking project,”

said Fernando.

A recent national health survey reported that there are 7.8 million people with lower limb disabilities in Brazil. Many of these people live in rural communities and could benefit from this innovation.

“With the launch of this accessible tractor, we want to empower people. It is not just a question of making new technology available in the agricultural machinery market, but also enabling people with disabilities to carry out their occupations with independence,”

CNH Acquires Spray Manufacturer Specialty Enterprises, Reinforcing Global Leadership in Crop Protection Equipment

CNH Industrial has acquired Specialty Enterprises LLC (Specialty), North America’s largest manufacturer of premium aluminum spray booms for agricultural applications. Specialty, which operates one manufacturing facility in Wautoma, Wisconsin, has been a supplier to Case IH since 2020.

The direct ownership of spray boom production is the latest step in Case IH’s strategic road map for its sprayer product platform. As the company works to enhance its application-product offering, the inclusion of longer, lighter booms enables accelerated development and deployment of new technologies. These solutions will be implemented across the Case IH product portfolio.

“We are thrilled to be working so closely with Specialty, which has been a fantastic partner to Case IH over the last few years as we deliver more productive application solutions. This acquisition strengthens our in-house capabilities and allows us to retain key strategic personnel to ensure continuity in this vertical integration.”

The acquisition of Specialty signals Case IH’s continued commitment to Agronomic Design— helping operators maximize yield and ROI potential. As aluminum spray booms are up to 50% lighter than their steel counterparts, they result in less field compaction, less rutting and better weight distribution.

“At Case IH, one of our primary crop production goals is to help operators cover more acres more efficiently — with solutions that are built to last. This acquisition will be key to providing operators with the equipment and agronomic solutions they need to feed a growing world.”

Specialty is known for its advanced engineering and high-quality workmanship as a world-class welding operation. The company’s sprayer boom design incorporates multiple patents to virtually eliminate the fatigue cracking associated with other aluminum boom designs. The aluminum used by Specialty is sourced and extruded in the United States.
