American Agri-Women (AAW) recognize the dynamic roles of women on farms and ranches today and the diversity among them.

56% of farms have at least one female producer, and 38% have a female primary producer, which means that the number of male farmers is dropping, the number of female producers rose 27% over the past five years.

KEY Apparel, NY Farm Girls, and AAW have joined together to bring awareness to the ‘Face of a Female Farmer‘. Jobs are just as diverse as appearances, but that doesn’t lessen credibility or work ethic. Agriculture has room for so many different careers that take you from the barn to the boardroom, and they all are forging the way for future generations to carry on. The traditional stigma of a man in overalls holding a pitchfork is universally recognized as a farmer, but for the past 50 years, it has been rapidly changing. As technology advances, daily tasks and chores are continually evolving. Men, women, and children work together to make the farm successful. With this, it means more women are stepping out of the house and giving a new meaning to the term ‘farm wife’.

These groups came together to design a shirt that embraces the faces of women in agriculture today. KEY apparel will donate $4 to AAW for every #FaceofaFemaleFarmer item sold. Several female influencers in the ag industry are helping to promote this campaign by showing how different we all can be on any given day. By using #FaceofaFemaleFarmer, you will access all their stories and photographs.

Carie M. Moore, AAW VP of Communications, states:

“Many times, women feel competition not only amongst males in the industry but women as well. Once we realize our farms are different, our dynamics are different, and our resources are different, we can embrace our individuality and accept that we are all needed. Women are active in politics, pig barns, and production lines. No two appearances are the same and we all need to understand that. It’s about mentally feeling good about yourself. Some days I’m in a dirty ball cap and greasy jeans, other days I may be talking to my state legislative members in suit coat and slacks.”

AAW appreciates the partner opportunity to bring attention to females in the ag industry. It’s important that we welcome each other in order to learn and grow through our different backgrounds. AAW is grateful to all the farmers and ranchers, male and female, working hard in and for agriculture.

Karolyn Zurn, the President of American Agri-Women, has released a new update about Executive Order. Here is the full-text.

American Agri-Women (AAW), President, Karolyn Zurn views this Executive Order as one more blessing for American Agriculture and all Americans.

This order not only cuts red tape, but it also provides a clear path for agencies such as the Bureau of Interior, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Army Corp of Engineers to work with United States agriculture.

This order provides jobs, water infrastructure, transportation on rivers and inland waterways, and water forecasting.

This project will offer clarity to agriculture, especially those that rely on the Colorado River for irrigation and the Mississippi Delta working with the Gulf of Mexico Nutrient Task Force. Florida’s flood and restoration projects throughout the Everglades have been in progress for many years, mired in red tape will now be able to move forward.

This project will work directly with the Environmental Protection Agency to provide a clean, safe water source for Americans across the board.

As American Agri-Women we #STANDUPSPEAKOUT4AG and are an ongoing “Voice for Truth About Agriculture.” We see a great future for agriculture.

The survey will gather data to better understand the community and leadership roles of women farmers, ranchers, growers and agriculturalists.

The most recent Ag Census showed a 27% increase in the number of women managing or operating farms and ranches. Coupled with this, more women than ever are involved in other agricultural careers or studying agriculture in post-secondary institutions. As the number of women involved in agriculture increases Annie’s Project is taking a closer look at agricultural women’s involvement with its new survey, the Agriculture Women’s Community & Leadership Survey. The survey is sponsored by Annie’s Project and Farm Credit and the results will be used to help design educational programs to expand women’s involvement in their communities and agricultural organizations.

Annie’s Project empowers farm and ranch women and growers to be better business partners through networks and by managing and organizing critical information. Farm Credit is a nationwide network of 72 customer-owned financial institutions.

“Our interest is to strengthen rural and agricultural communities by tapping into the talents of the women living and working there”

says Doris Mold, Annie’s Project Co-CEO.

Dr. Karisha Devlin, Annie’s Project Co-CEO adds,

“It is critical for us to also develop an understanding of the tools that they need to become more effective leaders in their communities.”
