Countdown to EIMA Digital Preview, the virtual preview of EIMA International held from 11 to 15 November.

A few weeks later, the Preview will be followed by the physical review of EIMA International, which was rescheduled due to the COVID 19 emergency from 3 to 7 February at the BolognaFiere exhibition spaces. Both events are organized by FederUnacoma, the Italian association of agricultural machinery manufacturers.

Despite being an absolute novelty, EIMA Digital Preview has already polarized the interest of operators and exhibitors. Like the traditional event, it aims to play a strategic role in the landscape of virtual trade exhibitions. A few days after registration was opened – the organizers explain – more than 520 companies (out of the over 1,600 booked) have finished setting up their virtual rooms, and more than a thousand businesspeople from all over the world have registered for the digital event https://www.eima.it/en/visitatori/userform.php). According to FederUnacoma, this second figure is bound to grow exponentially in the coming days.

EIMA Digital Preview is based on a platform conceived and developed specifically for the virtual exhibition, which is divided into 15 “product category planets”, representing the 14 specialization sectors of EIMA International, plus one dedicated to services. Inside the virtual rooms, the participating companies can take advantage of ample space to present new products and conference rooms for Business to Business meetings. On the other hand, a specific area of the platform is dedicated to technical meetings, topical analysis, and company press conferences, with a full calendar of events that already today, 40 days before the event, includes more than 50 scheduled events.

As the first industry event after last spring’s lockdown, the digital preview was promoted with the aim of revitalizing the agricultural machinery market, to reconnect the demand for agricultural machinery, which is emerging globally, with the technologies produced by the manufacturing industries. Thanks to this innovative formula that combines digital preview and traditional exhibitions, exhibiting industries have the opportunity not only to capture the demand for agricultural technologies from all over the world but to select and rationalize business contacts, thus optimally preparing for the physical EIMA of February.

The organizers are planning this event with great care and attention, to offer
attendees safety standards that are the highest in the entire international trade
exhibition landscape.

The need to tackle urgent problems never goes away, even in the midst of a global pandemic. Responding to that need, the Organic Trade Association is putting into motion a Congressional fly-in unlike any it’s held in the past to address one of today’s most serious challenges – climate change.

Over two weeks at the end of this month, almost 60 organic stakeholders from across the country representing the entire diverse organic supply chain will “virtually” converge on Capitol Hill to talk with lawmakers about climate change and how organic can be part of the solution to dealing with this pressing and immediate issue.

Hosting its first-ever “virtual” fly-in, and its first fly-in devoted to a single subject, the Organic Trade Association is spearheading the campaign to elevate the voice of organic in climate policies, advance organic as a solution to climate change, and to protect organic from the risk of a changing climate.

Laura Batcha, CEO and Executive Director of the Organic Trade Association, said:

“Climate change is a real threat to all of us, and bold policy solutions are required to mitigate the impacts and help farmers and communities adapt to the changing climate. We are grateful to our members for their engagement, especially as many of them are struggling with the devastating results of climate change in their areas in the form of wildfires. They’re still contributing their valuable time to take part in virtual meetings with dozens of House and Senate lawmakers and their staff, and advocate for meaningful climate action.”

The Organic Trade Association’s Climate Action Virtual Fly-in will take place Sept. 21 to Oct. 2. Participants will work in small teams with other Organic Trade Association members to attend some 30 pre-scheduled virtual meetings with federal lawmakers and their staff. Lawmakers will get the chance to hear from organic stakeholders ranging from dairy farmers and grain and produce growers to ingredient and baby food makers, food companies, and certifiers. Participating organic operations include Amy’s Kitchen, Pipeline Foods, Lundberg Family Farm, Cliff Bar, Organic Valley, Applegate, Danone North America, Stonyfield, Patagonia Works, True Organics, CCOF, and more.

The Organic Trade Association recently released a major report on organic and its ability to mitigate climate change. The white paper identifies policy opportunities and makes specific recommendations to elevate the role of organic in the climate change discussion, support organic farmers and encourage transition to organic farming. It incorporates key principles identified by the Organic Trade Association’s Board of Directors to achieve meaningful climate policy solutions.

Megan DeBates, Director of Legislative Affairs and Coalitions for the Organic Trade Association, said:

“Congress is showing a renewed interest in climate policy, and momentum for transformative action to prevent the most devastating impacts of climate change is happening now. It’s important that our members reach out to Congress now to begin the important discussions to advance organic in climate policy, and to develop policies that will enable all to benefit from organic’s ability to mitigate climate change.”

The generous sponsors for climate change fly-in are Patagonia Works, Applegate, True Organics, and Organic Valley.

Within days of the release of the Food Safety Best Practices Guide for the Growing and Handling of Mexican Papaya document in April 2020, Mexican papaya growers, packers and importers were requesting and downloading the document from the Texas International Produce Association’s (TIPA) and the United Fresh Produce Association (UFPA) website. Sparked by a Salmonella outbreak in June of 2019, it was evident that measures were needed to identify and address risks, and to bring the entire industry up to a higher base-line for food safety.

In order to help any company handling papayas answer questions concerning this new best practices guide and how to begin implementation, TIPA and UFPA will host a webinar scheduled for June 4th. Speakers include Dante Galeazzi, President & CEO of TIPA, and Emily Griep, Food Safety Manager of UFPA. This webinar will also discuss how this broad international collaboration plans to make the guide an on-going effort, with an education and research component, and how partners can help drive early adoption on a large scale.

“We’ve received incredible feedback from retail and foodservice companies, particularly during the development of the best practices document. During this webinar, we expect more questions from all the various buyer entities in North America. As an industry, we want those further up the supply chain to not only embrace but to promote this effort and encourage their suppliers of Mexican papayas to participate in this guidance. After all, it’s a FREE document!”
