Ponsse is launching a new customer-oriented Ponsse Active Manual, which is an instruction and maintenance manual service with videos to support the daily work of forest machine operators.

Ponsse Active Manual is a pioneering service for the industry

The visual Ponsse Active Manual is an instruction and maintenance manual service that works on your mobile device and supplements the current instruction and maintenance manual by offering videos in addition to the manual. The new service makes use of the latest technologies, such as 3D modeling. Active Manual has many benefits for forest machine operators: it is clear, fast, and easy to access.

“These days, people use instruction videos for doing all kinds of things, so it’s natural to also have operating instructions for forest machines available in video form. You can watch the videos whenever and wherever you want over the internet, and they can provide you with instructions for daily operation procedures,”

The new service improves the productivity of forest machine operators by providing them with fast and easy access to the most common instructions for the operation and maintenance of forest machines. The service’s videos will improve the utilization rate of forest machines by ensuring access to instructions and support whenever and wherever they are needed.

AEM Publishes Commodity Classic 2021 Switches to Digital Version

Experts, ag personalities, agribusiness leaders, and high-yield farmers are readying themselves to “take the digital stage” for the 2021 Special Edition of Commodity Classic.

Scheduled to be held from March 2-5, 2021, this year’s digital version of Commodity Classic is to deliver top-quality educational sessions and farmer networking opportunities that are hallmarks of America’s largest farmer-led, farmer-focused educational and agricultural experience.

“Commodity Classic is a one-of-a-kind event, and the farmer-driven efforts between and its event partners have the show positioned for sustained success,”

Established in 1996, Commodity Classic is America’s largest farmer-led, farmer-focused educational and agricultural experience. The show is presented annually by the American Soybean Association, National Corn Growers Association, National Association of Wheat Growers, National Sorghum Producers, and AEM.

In 2019, it was announced AEM would continue its participation in Commodity Classic as a partner and member of the event’s management committee. A year later, AEM reaffirmed its commitment to the show by assisting in surveying both attendees and exhibitors to provide Commodity Classic’s Management Committee with accurate and impactful information to further drive the growth and development of the show.

This year, AEM is pleased to announce it will have the opportunity to present the results of a recently completed study on the environmental benefits of precision agriculture during an education session at the 2021 Special Edition of Commodity Classic. The study, which is supported by the American Soybean Association, CropLife America, and National Corn Growers Association, quantifies how widely available precision ag technology used in agriculture improves environmental stewardship while providing an economic return for farmers.

The registration fee for the 2021 Special Edition of Commodity Classic has waived for the first 5,000 farmers thanks to the generous support of sponsors. All other registrants and farmers after the first 5,000 will be charged $20. The registration covers all online educational sessions and events, as well as access to all archived sessions through April 30, 2021.

The 2022 Commodity Classic is scheduled to be held in New Orleans from March 10-12, 2022.

Caterpillar revives Trial series with new video

Larger-than-life gameboard highlights Cat products, technology, and services

Continuing the company’s successful Cat Trials series, a total of eight videos that have logged more than 18 million views, Caterpillar released its first new Cat Trial video in four years. The Cat Trial #9: Pac-Man takes on the video-gaming world to celebrate Caterpillar’s 95^th anniversary, while Pac-Man celebrates its 40^th anniversary, by showcasing Cat products, technology, and services

Victoria Keese Morrissey, global marketing and brand director for Caterpillar, says:

“These trials are designed to surprise and delight our customers and prospects, as well as people outside our industry. Challenges the ghosts pose to Pac-Man strike a unique metaphor for obstacles lurking around each corner of the job site. Power Pellets represent the role Cat dealer services play in helping our customers overcome these challenges.”

The Cat Trial #9: Pac-Man plays out on a 162.4-ft x 180.4-ft (49.5- x 55-m) version of the iconic Pac-Man gameboard— 19,040 percent larger than the original scale of the maze on the classic arcade screen— and was built and played using the latest Cat equipment as well as grade and remote technology.

Commenting on the collaboration, Yutaka Fuse, Head of Pac-Man Licensing & Branding team for Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., owners of the Pac-Man brand, said,

“We appreciate Caterpillar approaching us and giving a nod to Pac-Man’s 40^th Anniversary in a truly unique way, and we were excited to work with them. It’s amazing how Caterpillar’s equipment was able to precisely recreate the iconic Pac-Man maze in the real world on such a grand scale. We were astonished by the final product.”

Gameboard construction

The original Pac-Man gameboard design was loaded into the Cat GRADE with a 3D system on the 336 Next Gen excavator, eliminating the need for stakes and grade checkers, saving time in the construction. In total, 70 labor hours were required for the 336 to create the life-size gameboard. Roughly 6,880 yd³ (195 m³) of cut/fill dirt was removed to build the maze that was comprised of 151 corners and 4-ft-tall (1.2-m) walls.

Support equipment to construct the gameboard, also using Cat GRADE with 3D to ensure they followed the same plan, included multiple field prep Cat dozers, Cat wheel loaders, a 323 excavator, trucks, and water wagons.

J. Archie Lyons, creative director, global brand strategy and activation for Caterpillar, explains:

“Cat GRADE with 3D enabled the workers to only handle material one time for digging, loading, hauling, and dumping. Reducing material handling is just one of the challenges our customers face, and Cat Grade technology greatly enhances job site efficiency.”

Five Cat 236D3 remote-controlled skid steer loaders, rented from The Cat Rental Store, were used for play to represent Pac-Man and the four ghosts – Blinky, Inky, Clyde, and Pinky. Pac-Man and ghost avatars placed atop the Cat loaders could be seen above the maze walls.

The four corner Power Pellets that put Pac-Man on the offensive represent Cat dealer services— Customer Value Agreements, Repair Options, Cat Financial, and Cat App. Helping with fleet management, financing, and maintenance, Cat Services gives customers an extra efficiency boost in the field.

Caterpillar also stayed true to the original game by including fruit bonuses, represented by Cat parts boxes. The fruit is how Pac-Man earns points, which in turn helps to earn additional lives, like how Genuine Cat Parts allow customers to get more life out of their machines to get the job done.

J. Archie Lyons, creative director, global brand strategy, and activation for Caterpillar, says:

“As a unique surprise at the end, we wanted to pay homage to the original game, in a way only Caterpillar could. Due to available memory at the time, level 256 experiences an integer overflow, and the right side of the board can’t be rendered. We have duplicated the original screen’s look of level 256 with our real-life Pac-Man game, using four Cat dozers to create the effect.”

In addition to the internal team members and collaborative partner Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Caterpillar thanks the players, who brought to life the Pac-Man video game experience. The participants controlling the Cat 236D3 skid steers using line-of-sight remote control systems were:

Pac-Man – Jim Kosner of JIMAX Landscaping & Demolition, Peoria, Ill.
Blinky – Joey Stone, Nascar/Richard Childress Racing (RCR) eSports driver of the #8 Virtual Cat car
Inky – Alfonso Fajardo of Horsepower Site Services, Charlotte, N.C., a Caterpillar Global Operator Challenge regional finalist
Clyde – Tom Gardocki, The Dirt Ninja, social media influencer, a professional heavy equipment operator in landscaping and construction
Pinky – Blitz, social media influencer, YouTube gaming content creator, and civil engineer

Customers continue to view the Cat Trial series, the most popular of which have received Guinness World Records for playing the largest game of Jenga and building the tallest sandcastle.

Firing up the 150Case, the largest steam traction engine in the world

Corey Anderson brings the action in Andover, South Dakota, to fire up the 150 Case road locomotive.

It was originally built in 1905 by the company, producing nine of these engines. None of them survived and they were all scrapped. However, in 2018 they brought one back alive, building it to the original blueprints acquired from the Case company in Racine, Wisconsin.

Over the course of ten years, they brought the engine back to life; in this video, they are going to show the process of firing it up.

Why re-baling? you may ask. Re-baling your big round or square bales into small squares may be a lucrative way to on-sell your hay or straw. One big round bale can in most cases be turned into 22x small squares – you do the maths.

Or it might just be a good way for you to turn you large bales into easy to handle, convenient small bales. Often time is scarce when harvesting, so making large bales and then turning them into small bales later on in the off-season, can be a great option depending on your operation.

Dennis from DLH Farms Shows Us How

Dennis from DLH Farms has filmed a tutorial on his YouTube Channel to show how he uses his mounted Chainless LX105 (Chainless X2500) bale unroller to re-bale 5×5 round bales into small squares that are sold at the farm store. So far, he has sold 245 of them through the store.

Dennis likes the set-up of the Hustler Chainless bale feeder. The bale cradle can be unhooked from the cabin without a rope and the tractor drops away from it while retaining the double spears that can be used for loading the bale. He uses the tractor to power the bale unroller that feeds into the baling machine and shows you how he works it. While he points out that slow is the way to go at the start of the bale, once you get a good flow it’s nice and easy to feed the hay into the re-baler by adjusting the platform to the size of your bale. The speed of the rotors teasing apart the bale can also be adjusted, making sure any shape or form of the bale can be unrolled.
