The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has named New Holland Agriculture’s Horizon Ultra tractor cab a 2022 AE50 award winner. The AE50 awards program emphasizes the role of new products and systems in bringing advanced technology to the marketplace. These engineering developments help farmers increase efficiency, enhance quality, improve safety, and increase profits. Each year, 50 winners are selected by ASABE, and New Holland Agriculture is pleased to be among the 2022 recipients.

Carlo Lambro, Brand President New Holland Agriculture, stated:

“It is always an honor to be included in ASABE’s AE50 annual award winners. These awards are a testament to the strength of the New Holland teams around the world: from the engineers who design our latest innovations to our field teams who work in the field side by side with our farmers to identify our next opportunities, and every step of the journey in between.”

The New Holland Horizon Ultra Tractor Cab

From the earliest stages of design, protecting the operator and preserving comfort was the focus of our engineers’ attention. The Horizon Ultra cab is the quietest in the industry – registering no more than 66 decibels.

In addition to the noise reduction, the cab has been expanded overall by 8% compared to prior models. The enlarged frame creates a more comfortable and functional room for the operator and extra storage space.

The spacious cab provides a supremely comfortable work environment with clean, uncluttered surfaces and intuitive operation with ergonomically located controls on the new SideWinder Ultra armrest and user-friendly IntelliView 12-inch display. The controls can be configured to match the operator’s preferences, and customization is as simple and extensive as desired. The Centerview display placed in the center of the steering wheel – an industry-first – provides a clear line of sight.

The new class-leading automatic climate control system with zone selection, which has 35% more capacity than the previous model, easily maintains a comfortable temperature in all seasons. The top-of-the-range Auto Comfort seat features lateral suspension and a climate control system that extracts moisture on hot days or warms on cold mornings. The Horizon Ultra cab’s advanced connectivity enables customers to bring their digital life on board effortlessly, as their mobile device automatically connects to the screen and can be operated with a button on the armrest.

The Horizon Ultra cab also introduces integration with New Holland’s next-generation PLM Intelligence, which represents a step forward in New Holland’s Precision Land Management strategy. It marks the shift from traditional farming practices to agriculture 4.0., where Precision and Interconnected Farming assists farmers to plan all operations in advance, manage in real-time the behavior and performance of each machine, and achieve maximum precision and efficiency.

The next-generation PLM Intelligence is a new electronic architecture that will be adopted in all New Holland’s next-generation equipment so that customers will find the same logic when switching machines and easily access data to get the job done more efficiently. This is part of New Holland’s strategy to integrate digital technologies to deliver smart and connected agriculture, with easy-to-use solutions that make farming more sustainable and productive.

They include the traditional precision farming applications aimed at making the operator’s life easier while optimizing yield and input costs; solutions based on connectivity and monitoring focused on improving the machine’s productivity, and cloud-based solutions based on data analysis and planning to facilitate farm management decisions.

The New Holland 2022 awards will be presented during ASABE’s Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference, to be held virtually in February 2022. They will also be featured in a special issue of ASABE’s magazine Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World, a magazine geared to agricultural, biological, and food system engineers worldwide.

The EIMA jury awarded the FPT Sustainable 2022 “Tractor of the Year” prize to the New Holland T6.180 Methane Power tractor, powered by the FPT Industrial N67 NG engine.

Launched in 1998 by the magazine ‘Trattori’, the prestigious annual TOTY awards recognize the latest innovations throughout the international tractor sector. This year, the jury comprised 26 journalists, representing the most influential agricultural magazines, websites, TV programs, and social networks across Europe.

The 2022 “Tractor of the Year” New Holland T6.180 Methane Power, powered by the FPT Industrial N67 NG engine, received the award because it represents a step forward towards
more sustainable farming.

Leveraging more than 20 years experience in Natural Gas engine development, proven by
over 60,000 units sold globally, FPT Industrial is now pioneering the introduction of Natural Gas technology in off-road applications, with customized engine solutions for installation on
agricultural equipment.

The N67 NG for the T6 Methane Power delivers the same performance as the Diesel version in terms of power, with up to 130 kW @ 1,800 rpm, 740 Nm torque @ 1,500 rpm, and the same durability and maintenance intervals, with an oil change interval of 600 hours, thus ensuring equivalent in-field performance and operation for end-users. Stage V compliance is attained through a simple maintenance-free 3-way catalyst, with no need for EGR, DPF, or SCR, maximizing reliability, machine uptime, and efficiency.

In real-world agricultural working conditions, CO2 emissions are reduced by a minimum of 10% when compared to a standard diesel tractor and are close to net-zero when running on biomethane. Moreover, polluting emissions are reduced by 80% on average when compared to a standard Diesel engine.

Advanced connectivity enables Deere to fully embrace the IoT and revolutionize productivity in factory settings

John Deere has obtained 5G licenses in five counties in Iowa and Illinois as part of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction for the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) 3.5 GHz spectrum. This will enable John Deere to accelerate the availability of 5G in its largest manufacturing facilities in North America.

Rural counties are often left behind in the race to implement broadband – even though it is necessary to process large quantities of data and enable advances in smart manufacturing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other breakthrough technologies in these areas. By obtaining these licenses, John Deere will boost its wireless networks by providing access to 5G in its manufacturing facilities.

“John Deere has always focused on how to empower customers to do more with less by using technology, and our focus on tech goes way beyond the fields. It impacts everything single aspect of our business, and we’re constantly looking at ways to improve our own efficiencies and outcomes with it. Implementing 5G in our manufacturing facilities allows John Deere to make significant progress in our Smart Industrial strategy by turning factories into smart and connected manufacturing facilities – a critical piece of the industrial IoT.”

said Jahmy Hindman, Chief Technology Officer.

John Deere’s manufacturing facilities are extraordinarily complex environments that rely on automation and connectivity. With miles of embedded Ethernet cables connecting Wi-Fi drop points currently in factory ceilings, the facilities are faced with limited flexibility for setting up and upgrades. 5G enables private LTE networks and will allow John Deere to design a more flexible, nimble, and connected facility, creating opportunities for further advancement and greater efficiency that will transform the manufacturing process.

Private 5G LTE also creates the opportunity to expand factory capabilities leveraging edge computing, analytics, and autonomous devices, and empowers a larger set of smart applications like real-time location systems, asset tracking, inventory management, wearables, building automation, and robotics for operational cost savings.

John Deere will implement 5G at its manufacturing facilities in the following counties: Rock Island, Illinois; Scott County, Iowa; Dubuque, Iowa; Polk County, Iowa; Black Hawk County, Iowa. The rollout is set to occur during the fiscal year 2022.
