Bourgault Tillage Tools is not new to UK agriculture, as British farmers have purchased BTT products for many years. BTT has recognized they can play a significant role in the evolution of UK agriculture and want to duplicate the close to the farm philosophy they’ve held in Canada for farmers in the UK.

“Having a UK operation takes BTT much closer to the farmer giving us feet on the ground in the UK and Europe,”

explains Pat Yeager, Director of Sales & Marketing for Bourgault Tillage Tools.

A business site in the UK offers many benefits to local farmers. BTT can take a more hands-on approach to their needs, and a comprehensive supply of stock in the UK ensures products are readily available at a cost-effective price seven days a week during peak operating times.

For 30 years, Bourgault Tillage Tools has delivered quality, innovative ground-engaging tools for agriculture worldwide. Its founder, Joseph Bourgault, still owns the company. Ryan Olson, General Manager of Bourgault Tillage Tools in Canada, says the company’s longevity and success are down to a few key elements:”People, innovation, quality, and focusing on what is important for the farmer.”

UK farmers may know Bourgault Tillage Tools because of the VOS (Versatile Opener System) seeding products becoming very popular with min and no-till operations and the quick-change Speed-Loc system used by various UK OEM’s. Many other Bourgault Tillage Tool products will become available through BTT UK, including a wide range of parts containing MAX LIFE Carbide infused technology, Forges de Niaux Disk blades, and Industriehof’s Extreme Carbide Line. This model will be tailored to the UK market and simplify the farmers’ experience by creating a “one-stop-shop” of wear parts that fit multiple machines across the farm. It also ensures that the farmer has the best possible information from the BTT UK team to make the right decision for their unique farming operation. Possibly best of all, if a solution to a re-occurring issue does not exist, the UK team has a direct connection to multiple technical teams working in Canada, France, and Germany to support them.

Stuart Aldworth, Bourgault Tillage Tools UK & European Technical Manager has worked in the agricultural service industry in the UK since 1980 and has seen many changes in agricultural practices.

“Working at BTT UK is fascinating and very fulfilling. Being able to directly help UK farmers and contractors get the most out of their machines whilst permanently looking to the future for new or better ways of working means there is never a dull moment. Knowing that we in the UK have a research and development team in Saskatchewan, Canada to work with ensures the UK Farmer and OEM’s are in safe hands going forward into what is a challenging future.”

Mecalac offers a new configuration of its innovative two-piece boom with offset for 6MCR skid excavators and 7MWR wheeled excavator models. The boom option allows customers to better tailor equipment for their specific needs.

“Mecalac excavators represent a new approach to existing equipment — a 360-degree compact excavator. Thanks in part to an innovative boom design, our MCR and MWR machines open faster and close up tighter than anything out there, providing more power, speed, and dexterity for the tightest worksites. But innovation never stops. Our engineers found a way to further specialize our existing technology for certain applications.”

said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.

The new option is a variation of the Mecalac boom optimized for excavation and truck loading applications. This alternative boom configuration positions the stick cylinder above the boom, rather than underneath, to provide a wider working angle, faster movement, and higher penetration force while maintaining the features that make the original Mecalac boom revolutionary on the excavator market. Dimensions and work envelope remain similar to the standard boom, and attachments, such as loader buckets and pallet forks, are still compatible.

The new Mecalac boom is now the standard configuration for 6MCR and 7MWR excavators. The original boom design will remain standard for all other models in the MCR skid excavator and MWR wheeled excavator series, which provides unparalleled power and flexibility for diverse applications.

Unlike traditional mono booms, Mecalac’s design features five axes for an unrivaled range of motion, providing a more compact footprint and minimizing the need to reposition the machine in a number of situations. The boom can be tucked in close to the machine, even with a full bucket, allowing for extra compactness and mobility without overbalancing the unit in the front — resulting in a true zero-turn radius. For loading-trucks, working in confined spaces or operating near the body of the machine, the boom’s extended range of movement increases flexibility and reach while minimizing unnecessary movement. This dexterity also increases overall efficiency with a number of attachments. For example, it allows for parallel lifting and below-grade operation with pallet forks.

The boom is offset to the side of the cab, which allows the operator to angle the first part of the boom back to increase stability during lifting — resulting in the highest lifting force in its class — and reduces the machine’s overall footprint for work in confined areas. An additional offset in the second segment of the boom lets contractors dig outside the machine’s width as well as work parallel to the machine over longitudinal obstacles, such as fences.

“From the start, Mecalac’s boom design changed the game for excavator operators, increasing lifting capacity to industry-leading levels and allowing them to work closer to the machine than ever before. But we recognize that contractors take different paths to achieve success. To help maximize the benefits of our MCR and MWR machines for every customer, we offer a boom optimized for excavation and truck loading applications.”

Bigwood said.

Ktwo is a British manufacturer of farming machinery and they have now secured a 5-year export partnership to continue to serve their growing audience across North America.

Ktwo saw an opportunity in the North American market for strong high-quality agriculture trailers after being approached by several companies across America and Canada in early 2020. They needed a manufacturer with the capacity and experience to fulfill their need for strong, large silage trailers to hold volumes up to 75m3.

Robbie Polson, Ktwo Managing Director, explains:

“We see big potential for our machines across North America. And we are very pleased to announce we have secured a 5-year partnership with an experienced and reputable importer to cover the region and grow our dealerships.’’

Ktwo has already grown its dealership network in North America in recent months with new dealers now covering Michigan, Minnesota, Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec states.

“We’re excited to have Ktwo in Michigan. The innovative, yet simple design of Ktwo products will make them successful with our customers.”

Says Blake Laethem of the Farm Depot which has locations across Michigan.

‘’When we choose new product lines to carry they are carefully vetted by our sales, service and parts teams. It is important that we can support buyers from the first handshake to the field. We are confident that farmers will be excited to get to know Ktwo in 2021.’’

Says Cameron Currie of Delta Power Equipment which has multiple locations across Ontario.

Ktwo developed their popular Ktwo Roadeo Curve Trailers and increased the width from 2.5m to 3.2m wide specifically for North America in the summer. The largest Roadeo Curve Trailer being developed has four axles and two steering axles to cope with the larger size and capacity.

Along with their large tipping trailers, Ktwo already has examples of their UK leading Roadeo Compact and Push trailers operating in North America and they have developed a greater range of their manure spreaders. Their larger spreader range includes tandem axle horizontal and vertical beater machines which are being well received across America and Canada.

The appointment means Grimme UK can consolidate from three separate dealerships to just one covering the southwest, which the company reckons, increases the dealer’s ability to invest in the brand and its customers.

“We would like to reassure customers that Grimme will work hard to make this transition as smooth as possible. Parts and service will continue to be readily available in the coming weeks, as would usually be expected by our customer base.”

says managing director Patrick Graf Grote of Grimme UK.

The effects of Covid-19 are not over yet, but this summer’s sales figures have provided Engcon with a positive outlook. The unexpected increase in sales during the months of June and July mean that Engcon is now overseeing extra efforts to produce and fulfill the delivery of additional orders.

Engcon like many companies was affected when Covid-19 struck with full force in the spring. As well as impacting sales, Engcon was forced to cancel and pack up early at this year’s largest construction trade show CONEXPO, Las Vegas. Engcon is known for its good financial management and immediately acted with a package of measures, that included cost savings, budget adjustments, and prioritizing efforts to streamline processes and working practices. However, this summer’s sales figures were better than expected, which meant ramping up production to meet the increase in customer orders.

Krister Blomgren

”For us, it is of the utmost importance to run the company in a serious and long-term way. In uncertain times, we do what we can to minimize the effects if it should be a worst-case scenario,”

says Krister Blomgren, CEO of Engcon Holding, and continues:

“But it turned out pretty soon that despite the pandemic, many excavator operators around the world continued their work with maintenance of railways, highways, forestry, and building structures. We know that our products contribute to socially beneficial activities and these priorities around the world have therefore of course been favorable for us as a company. This is a strong contributing factor to our positive sales figures”.

In total, Engcon Group sales dropped by approximately 14 percent from January to July 2020, compared with the same period last year, while sales increased by 18 percent in the non-Nordic markets.

“What you have to remember is that it is the other markets that are growing at a higher rate right now, meanwhile sales remain sluggish in our normally stronger markets here in the Nordic region”.

However, Engcon has seen greater caution around larger investments, but at the same time can see that many excavator operators barely have time available for all their assignments right now. Those who can afford it are thus making the smart move to invest in an economic downturn in order to prepare for the upturn.

”Investing in a tiltrotator makes digging considerably more efficient, which means the extra capacity to catch up with more jobs in hectic times. It is wise to equip the business, regardless of whether you are a local excavation company or a large global corporation,”

says Krister Blomgren.

Engcon has a number of activities prioritized to further develop the business and come out stronger on the other side of the pandemic.

“For example, we have just chosen a supplier for a new business system, as part of a decision we made over a year ago. Our strategy is to streamline our processes and make smart investments to become even better. This summer’s sales have been good, and we are cautiously optimistic, even though we have not heard the latest about Covid-19 yet,”

Krister Blomgren concludes.

The markets where sales rose significantly during the year were North America (the USA and Canada), Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
