Introducing Tigercat Simulators

As the Tigercat cut-to-length division continues to introduce new products and innovations, the need for more advanced training solutions has grown.

In March 2021, Tigercat partnered with CM Labs Simulations to develop a series of simulators that will replicate the functionality and behavior of and wheel harvesters. The wheel harvester simulator is the first to be completed.

There are many benefits in using a simulator, not only for training but also for employers to screen potential employees. Companies are able to gauge how an operator will perform and use that information when assigning tasks.

Operators can be trained on a simulator without the fear of damaging equipment, so experimenting with different techniques or trying new methods can be done safely and risk-free. Also, by training on a simulator, other equipment is not being tied up and slowing production. When operators have hands-on training using the simulator, it allows them to transition to actual machines at higher initial productivity levels, thereby lowering start-up costs.

Tigercat simulators have three screens, a motions platform, as well as all the associated Tigercat machine control software and hardware. The simulator’s software communicates directly with the Tigercat machine control software so the controls are identical to the actual machine. Any adjustments that can be made on the machine, can also be made on the simulator which helps teach operators not only motor skills but the effects of the many machine adjustments available to operators.

Tigercat simulators are equipped with an actual operator’s seat, including all control pods, the machine’s computer control system, as well as the harvesting head control system on the harvester simulator. The transition for new operators from virtual to actual is almost seamless.

Tigercat VP, cut-to-length systems, Jon Cooper explains,

“The introduction of the Tigercat simulator provides dealers with a valuable training tool that can save machine owners significant start-up costs. Using the simulator to teach operational skills in realistic environments allows the new operator to enter into a real machine with much higher productivity levels from the start. This can produce extra production income and avoid expensive machine damage.”

Tigercat Releases 880E Logger

The 880 series logger is a multi-purpose forestry carrier that can be configured for loading, shovel logging, or processing applications.

The 880E introduces several new features including an updated operator’s station and various grapple configurations to tailor the machine to your specific needs.

The 880E is powered by the Tigercat FPT N67 engine, producing 230 kW (308 hp). The F7-163 undercarriage is designed and built to withstand rigorous, full-time forest duty with exceptional stability for heavy timber applications.

The spacious cabin has a new heated operator’s seat. Controls are integrated into both sides of the joystick pods, eliminating the need for any bolt-on control pods. The optimally positioned controls and large machine control system touchscreen interface improve ergonomics and machine monitoring. The quiet interior helps the operator enjoy the auxiliary audio input port, Bluetooth audio, and hands-free calling. Additional new features include a standard-equipped rearVIEW camera system, emergency stop button, and a key fob to turn on exterior lights remotely when entering the cab in the dark.

The 880E can be configured as a loader equipped with various power clam, butt-n-top, and log grapple options. Equipped with a live heel boom system, the 880E is a highly capable shovel logger with excellent stability, tractive effort, and swing torque. The carrier can also be configured as a high-capacity processor capable of running large harvesting heads in demanding duty cycles.

Some of the many advantages of the 880E over excavator conversions include better service access, higher cooling capacity, a better operating environment with superior sightlines, more robust undercarriage components, and extremely efficient hydraulic circuits. The result is higher production, uptime, and fuel efficiency.

Tigercat Releases LSX870D Shovel Logger

Tigercat has raised the bar again with the introduction of the LSX870D shovel logger

Based on the popular LX870D series track carrier platform, the machine is designed for extreme-duty steep slope logging. With the choice of attachments including the new Tigercat BG13 grapple with a live heel boom or SC08 shovel clam grapple, as well as the field-proven 5195 directional fellings saw, the LSX870D is suited to felling, pre-bunching, and shovel logging in challenging terrain.

The addition of the LSX870D to the Tigercat lineup provides higher power, closed-loop drive alternative to the LS855E. Where the LS855E provides higher swing speed and lower ground pressure, the LSX870D allows for improved multifunctioning ability and quicker, more responsive travel speed. The Tigercat FPT C87 engine supplies 245 kW (330 hp), which combined with the dedicated attachment pump, provides plenty of multifunctioning power.

Tigercat’s leveling track machines use innovative technologies and systems optimized for a wide range of steep slope applications including shovel logging, felling, and harvesting. Tigercat’s super-duty leveling undercarriage is longer and wider, providing exceptional stability on steep slopes. The patented leveling design uses two massive hydraulic cylinders and heavy steel sections for a solution that is simple, robust, and reliable. Unlike competing systems, the Tigercat leveling system leans into the hill when leveling to the side which further improves machine stability and operator comfort.

Midsouth Opens New Dealership in Springfield, Arkansas

MidSouth Forestry Equipment is proud to announce the opening of a third Tigercat dealership location.

The facility is located in Springfield, Arkansas, in the heart of Birdtown on Highway 9.

“It sits on five acres and is just a short distance from the Ouachita National Forest and the Ozark National Forest. With several mills in the surrounding areas, this allows us to better support our north and west Arkansas customers and grow our business. We are looking forward to the growth of our customers and being able to support them in this new location with Tigercat equipment, parts, sales, and service,”

The Tigercat 875 Logger Upgrades to E-Series

The no-compromise 875E logger introduces several new features, including an updated operator station, two undercarriage options, and various grapple configurations to tailor the machine to your specific needs.

The 875E logger is a multi-purpose carrier with two boom options for loading or processing applications. The machine can be equipped with the Tigercat FPT N67 Non-certified, Tier 4f or Stage V engine, producing 210 kW (282 hp).The undercarriage is designed and built to withstand rigorous, full-time forest duty applications. Two options are available. The F7-150 undercarriage is standard. The larger footprint F7-162 undercarriage provides additional stability for heavy timber applications.The 875E can be configured as a loader equipped with various power clam, butt-n-top, live heel, pulpwood and log grapple options. Bruno Villeneuve is the New Tigercat Product Support Rep in Quebec

Bruno Villeneuve joins the Tigercat team in the role of product support representative for Quebec and northeastern Ontario.

Based in Dolbeau-Mistassini, Quebec, Bruno Villeneuve comes to Tigercat with eighteen years of experience in the heavy equipment industry, ranging from equipment technician to field service manager. In Bruno’s new product field support role, he will be working closely with Tigercat district manager Yannick Lapointe and Thunder Bay-based product support representative Keith Gauvreau.

“Bruno is well known in the forests of Quebec, a very dedicated individual with a contagiously good mood. His passion and experience will bring a lot to us and to our customers. If you travel with him, be ready to get up early and get back when it’s done. I am very happy he joined our team,”

explains Yannick.

Bruno’s appointment represents the latest effort in Tigercat’s ongoing goal to provide the best after-sale support in the industry by monitoring and matching increases in field population to field team resources.

Tigercat teases the Tigercat 865 Logger

A purpose-built logger, the Tigercat 865 will offer many advantages over excavator conversions, including better service access, stronger swing torque and superior operator visibility. The Tigercat FPT N67 engine delivers 165 kW (221 hp) at 1,900 rpm.

The 865 loggers can be configured as a loader with boom options for various grapple types, or as a high capacity processor, capable of running large harvesting heads in demanding duty cycles. Dual swing drives will provide ample torque and speed for high-performance loading or processing.

Service access has been carefully thought out with the ability to step down into the center of the machine for clear, unobstructed access to the engine and daily service points. Large enclosure doors and a spring assist side service platform to provide a large, stable work area for performing maintenance on hydraulic components and changing filters. A large cast counterweight provides excellent stability with a swing-out door that allows access to the engine from the rear of the machine.

The rear entry elevated cab, full-length front window, and additional floor windows provide superior visibility with clear sightlines. LED lighting and the rearVIEW camera system further augment operator visibility.

Tigercat releases highly anticipated H-Series skidders

Tigercat’s advanced, efficient and refined skidders just got a whole lot better with a completely redesigned operator station and numerous advancements to boost productivity and minimize downtime.

Tigercat H-series skidders introduce a new, larger cab, while improving serviceability, reliability, and efficiency. The new skidder line includes the release of the 620H, 630H, and 632H four-wheel models, as well as the 625H and 635H six-wheel models.

The redesigned operator station provides 20% more cab space than the previous E-series design. Window area has increased by 19% offering superior forward and rear visibility. Additional low side windows allow for better sightlines to all tires.

A new and improved Turnaround system lets the operator rotate the seat 220°. Effortless pushbutton controls lock and unlock the seat in any position in the range. The operator has full control of all machine functions including drive controls. The 220° seat rotation improves operator visibility, greatly reduces neck strain, and allows the operator to easily exit either side of the cab.

A durable, heavy duty air ride suspension seat with heating and cooling keeps the operator comfortable all day long. The reclining seat is fully adjustable with seat angle and seat extension adjustment. Tilt up adjustable armrests along with adjustable lumbar support all contribute to operator comfort. A secure five-point harness comes standard for improved safety.

A completely redesigned HVAC system provides more efficient cooling capacity, 50% more air vents, infinitely variable fan speed, and an automatic defrost option. A ventilated cup holder with adjustable airflow keeps your drink hot or cold. Dedicated storage locations are set aside with space for a lunch box, hooks for a hardhat and jacket, along with a sturdy cell phone holder and convenient charging port.

The interior finish includes a state-of-the-art LCD touchscreen display. Interior walls are made of molded plastics and removable steel panels making cleaning a breeze. On the floor you will find an easy-clean rubber floor mat with checkered aluminum plates at high touch points for added durability.

Operator controls are now located on the armrests and include several new features. Independent differential lock buttons are easily accessible on the joystick with the ability to engage the front and rear separately. LED lights above the buttons illuminate making it crystal clear when they are active. A cruise control button is also available to maintain the drive command for the operator.

All H-series skidders feature load-sensing hydraulics with larger, more efficient valves. Hydraulic tank capacity has increased 20% for improved steep slope performance, along with improved level detection and more robust mounting. Horsepower has increased on the 620H, 630H, 632H, and 635H models. The 620H and 630H are now equipped with larger arch and boom cylinders. The 625H is equipped with larger arch and boom cylinders, along with larger steer and dozer cylinders – all to maximize productivity.

Engine enclosure doors have been reinforced to resist impacts. T-style compression latches ensure they stay securely closed. Belly doors now use pivot bolts to effortlessly swing open and a new smaller door makes accessing the fluid drain plugs a breeze. When tilting the cab is necessary, new ‘quarter turn’ locking pins, adjustable sweep brackets, and a larger tilt cylinder make the job much simpler. Batteries, drain hoses and fill hoses are now easily accessible within the left side step. A robust tire pressure monitoring system now comes standard on all models.

Tigercat updates the 718G feller buncher

Tigercat engineering recently completed the drive-to-tree feller buncher line-up with the release of the 718G.

One of the last Tigercat machines to receive a Tigercat FPT Tier 4 engine, it was a challenge to package the additional after treatment componentry required for Tier 4 compliance, while still retaining the nimble size of the industry’s ﬁnest thinning machine. The designers have succeeded, incorporating all of the features of the larger G-series family members, as well as additional enhancements, while maintaining the approximate size of the previous E-series machine.

The 718G gets its power from the Tigercat FPT N45 Tier 4f engine which provides 125 kW (170 hp) at 2,200 rpm. The completely redesigned engine compartment allows for a high capacity cross-ﬂow cooling set-up with a hydraulic driven, automatic variable speed fan and an automatic reversing cycle. The new compartmentalized layout keeps the cooling system, hydraulic components, and engine in three separate areas.

The new accumulation mode allows the operator to choose between normal and auto-accumulate for bunching head arm operation. Simultaneous open and close of the clamp and accumulator arms can also be programmed on a joystick button. A saw interrupt trigger on the joystick turns off saw power temporarily when extra horsepower is required. This is particularly useful in hilly terrain once the saw head is full and the operator is backing up to dump the accumulated bunch.

The G-series cab is quiet and well-equipped and affords excellent visibility. LED lights improve reliability and brightness. A more even light pattern provides better coverage around the machine. The front window area is nearly ten percent larger. Combined with Tigercat’s low-proﬁle boom structure, visibility to the front is unmatched. The rear quarter windows are over twenty percent larger improving the view over the back tires – an asset in thinning applications.

Additional new features include a rear camera system, programmable joystick buttons, electric hydraulic ﬁll pump, and ground-level fueling. Enhanced differential lock controls are timed to turn off after a pre-set duration to save axle wear.
