Today, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, along with Francis Drouin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced the launch of the Supply Management Processing Investment Fund, worth $292.5 million, to help processors of supply-managed commodities increase their competitiveness and resilience in the face of evolving markets. The Supply Management Processing Investment Fund is part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to support processors in these sectors to address the impacts of international trade agreements.

“Our government strongly supports supply-managed sectors and, as promised, we are rolling out various programs to compensate producers and processors who have lost market share further to trade agreements. Today, we are announcing the terms of support for dairy, poultry and egg processors to promote investment in their operations and thereby improve their competitiveness and resilience.”

Through this program, processors of supply-managed commodities will have access to funding to improve their productivity and efficiency through investments in new automated equipment and technology. The Fund leverages private investment in processing plants to accelerate adoption of automation to lower processing costs, address labour shortages and enhance product quality.

Launching today, the two-step application process includes first submitting a Project Summary Form, which will help to determine a project’s eligibility and alignment with program criteria and priorities. Those successful at this stage will be invited to submit a full application.

The Working Group brings together the full value-chain of the PEI potato sector to exchange information, develop strategies to determine and help mitigate impacts of potato wart on the sector, and identify potential short and long-term solutions to current trade disruptions.

Its membership includes representatives from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Global Affairs Canada, as well as representatives from the Government of Prince Edward Island, the PEI Potato Board, PEI seed and fresh potato growers, and key potato processors.

During the meeting, the CFIA outlined the steps they are taking to gather the scientific evidence needed to assure their U.S. counterpart agency, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), of the safety of trade of table and processing potatoes. The CFIA is aiming to conduct another round of technical discussions with APHIS next week.

The working group will continue to meet to assess the impacts on PEI potato farmers and those along the value chain and is expected to examine all options to find end-point destinations for the sale and further processing of the existing stock of potatoes in PEI, and other measures to support affected farmers. The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, will attend the next meeting on Monday, November 29.

UNICASE Bevel Gear Units – NORD helical bevels are made of a UNICASE cast-iron housing which offers unmatched reliability. These units range from 0.16 – 200 HP, provide up to 442,500 lb-in of torque, and ensure long service life and low maintenance. Helical bevel units can be foot, flange, or shaft mounted with the hollow, solid shaft, and keyless bore options. Keyless shaft designs are available with both Shrink Disc and the GRIPMAXXTM Keyless Bushing System.

NORD bevel units also offer an integrated backstop option to ensure that material only flows in one direction. With 11 available case sizes, NORD’s helical bevel units are flexible enough to meet your application needs.

NORD CLINCHER Parallel Shaft Gear Units – NORD’s CLINCHER units provide ultimate efficiency and economy for bulk material handling systems. These UNICASE units are available with cast-iron or aluminum housings and guarantee long life cycles, quiet operation, and low maintenance. Ranging from 0.16 – 200 HP with torques of up to 680,000 lb-in, CLINCHERs provide high power density in a compact design. They can
be foot, flange, or shaft mounted, have hollow or solid shaft options, and are compatible with Shrink Disc and GRIPMAXX keyless shaft designs. With 15 different sizes, CLINCHERs are a perfect option for a variety of bulk goods applications.

GRIPMAXX – GRIPMAXX offers many benefits for the bulk material handling industry. It eliminates the typical assembly and disassembly challenges of using interference fits by providing generous clearances to ensure easy installation and removal of the gearbox. The keyless design also eliminates key/keyway failures and fretting corrosion.

The GRIPMAXX system also allows the reduction of variants while still providing a wide
range of bore sizes. Screw Conveyor Package – The NORD Screw Conveyor Package (SCP) is available with both bevel and CLINCHER gear units and offers a compact, cost-effective alternative to traditional screw conveyor drives.

Closely stepped speed reduction ratios combined with a directly coupled gear motor or NEMA C-face input design eliminate the need for top motor mounts, pulleys, belts, or guards. Based on NORD’s UNICASE design, all speed reducer housings are constructed of rigid, one-piece cast iron that resists deflection under the heaviest loading conditions. All bearings and seal seats are contained within the single casting, eliminating splits or bolt-on carriers that can weaken the housing or allow oil leakage. This minimizes parts inventory and eliminates belted input systems for easier system maintenance, increased reliability, and superior drive performance.

NORDAC FLEX Variable Frequency Drive (SK 200E) – The NORDAC FLEX is NORD’s most flexible VFD. With fully scalable functions, it can be easily tailored to any application. Supply chain disruptions have been a challenge for manufacturers throughout the agriculture sector over the past year. Since the pandemic, the availability of inputs related to the production of agricultural equipment has decreased dramatically. Enhanced Mobile App User Interface

Field- and vehicle-specific data is more accessible than ever, with complete field and vehicle lists visible alongside the map. This allows users to switch between a map screen, a field list, and a vehicle list quickly and efficiently.

Prescription Creation

Maximize the all-new prescription creation tool. This will allow equipment settings to be customized to match conditions in different areas of the field while on the go. Producers can save fuel, conserve soil and appropriately tailor machine agronomic output throughout the field to the crop.

Large Square Baler Support

Users of large square balers will now see data import and display activity layers in MyPLM Connect Farm. Additionally, users can now select the specific bale drop location. Once selected, a pin will show the location of each bale within the field. The user can view individual bales and specific details by clicking on the pin for the given bale. Displayed information for each bale includes wet/dry weight, moisture percentage, density, capacity, and flakes per bale.
