Customers can now choose from three technology packs for fast and easy feature choice to suit individual demands. They can be specified alongside the existing Evolution or Excellence packages, easing the ordering process and matching business demands, while boosting residual value at trade-in.

Tech Pack 1 comprises the armrest-mounted STEYR Infomat 1200 touchscreen, plus a readiness package for a second display. Upgrading to Tech Pack 2 or 3 adds additional automation and further enhances the accuracy level of STEYR Guide auto-steering.

STEYR Terrus CVT tractors also now come with Connectivity Included. This brings seamless connected services and FieldOps data monitoring and management throughout the life of the connectivity modem, with no recurring subscription fees. When a new Terrus CVT is added to a customer account, qualifying existing machines can be upgraded to Connectivity Included at no extra cost. The FieldOps complete data management via app and web provides users with near real-time access to machine and agronomic data.

Joystick revision permits control of both front and rear linkages

The armrest-integrated joystick now allows users to also operate both the front and rear linkages. Through the STEYR Infomat 1200 touchscreen, the joystick functions can be configured according to whether the tractor is operating front- or rear-mounted equipment or a combination of the two.

In 2022, Steyr is celebrating three-quarters of a century since manufacturing its first tractor, a Type 180 model, in 1947. The brand, today a key component of CNH Industrial’s agricultural equipment business, is marking ‘75 years of quality made in Austria’ to underline the reputation Steyr has gained for its high build standards.

The famous red and white livery

The first STEYR tractor, a green 180 model, was produced in 1947. In 1966 STEYR tractors adopted the distinctive red-and-white colors that remain a hallmark of its tractors. Eight years later, tractor assembly and sales moved from the town of Steyr to St. Valentin, where they can still be found today. In 1996, Case Corporation, then the parent of Case IH, purchased the Steyr agricultural division.

Steyr’s first tractors with continuously variable transmissions debuted in 1999, with Steyr subsequently helping to shape this powertrain segment. In February 2005 the 500,000th Steyr tractor was produced. The St Valentin site is today the European headquarters of Case IH and Steyr, and with over 600 employees is one of the region’s largest employers. Besides a strong presence in their German-speaking ‘home market’, Steyr tractors are today sold across 20 countries throughout Europe, following gradual market expansion in recent years

Technological leadership

The brand has underlined its position as a forward-thinking technology innovator with the unveiling at Agritechnica 2019 of the Steyr Konzept. This futuristic tractor uniquely combines innovative technologies to create an environmentally friendly yet efficient and functional tractor concept that shows what the future of tractor development may look like. At its heart is a modular hybrid electric drive, combining a combustion engine, generator, and several individually-controllable electric motors to supply energy where it is needed.

In 2022, this was followed by the Hybrid Drivetrain Konzept. Derived from the thoughts and discussions prompted by the Steyr Konzept in 2019, the Hybrid Drivetrain Konzept takes the driveline aspects further down the development road. Work has focused on the potential of electric drive systems to power a lightweight, high-horsepower tractor delivering fuel consumption advantages averaging 8%. Supercapacitor technology enables power to be boosted when demand rises, providing up to 25% faster acceleration. In the field working with implements, also helps cover peak load in high draft applications, and has allowed the development of differential torque vectoring, reducing turning radius. In addition, it is possible to transfer power to an implement, via high-voltage sockets front and rear.

Linking the tractors of yesterday and today

“The first Type 180 and today’s STEYR Terrus CVT flagship tractor are obviously far apart in terms of technology, but one common thread they share is their build quality,”

believes Hannes Wogerbauer, plant manager at the STEYR tractor factory in St Valentin.

“Many of the factory team are from farms and understand what our customers expect from their STEYR tractor. It’s why we are proud to state‘Quality made in Austria’, and why the STEYR brand has a high level of customer retention.”

A new prize scheme from the Agritechnica organizer, the Agrifuture Concept awards focus on machines that offer the promise of significant technical progress over the coming decade, coupled with the realistic possibility of implementation. The Steyr Hybrid Drivetrain Konzept remains a conceptual study that will not enter production in itself but does include developments beyond those on the original Konzept tractor that may find their way onto production tractors in the future.

Exterior features that promise a premium automotive interior

The changes begin with a completely redesigned cabin entrance area, created for improved ergonomics – easier, quicker, safer entry and exit. New aluminum steps match the tractor’s styling, as do new gas strut covers both for the doors and the rear window. The Impuls CVT is now fitted as standard with two opening doors for convenience when accessing this side of the tractor.

Adjacent to the steps, a vanity cover conceals an additional external battery master switch as well as optional heating sockets and the air-line coupler, which will allow the operator to easily clean both sides of the cab or radiators. A STEYR branding plate complements this new smart design. Night-time entry and exit are also made safer and more welcoming by the addition of high-performance LED ingress lighting.

Other new external features designed to improve operator comfort include improved work light position to aid performance and visibility to implement extremities, and there are new modern-style LED side indicators that are overlaid by the direction indicator lights when engaged. LED beacons, which are foldable to minimize damage risk, are now optionally available.

At the rear of the tractors, top link stability and fixing have been enhanced, and there is now a position indicator to make it easier to quickly fix the top link and check position from the cab. At the top of the rear remote stacks, there is now a rear cover plate that arranges connections in a more ergonomic manner for faster coupling.

Interior features that match up to the promise

Driver comfort has been a core focus in the new Impuls CVT development. Interior surfaces benefit from new materials and enhanced fit and finish, and new Impuls CVT models are the first STEYR tractors with a new premium leather steering wheel. A new low-mount windscreen wiper covers 60% more area, and forward vision is also enhanced by a less-obtrusive rear-view mirror. A new cooled storage compartment keeps operators refreshed, while new premium speakers provide high-quality sound.

To the operator’s right, a new monitor rail incorporates an integrated harness guide and two USB sockets, for convenient mounting and power for implementing monitors and other devices. A dealer-installed kit for a RAM mount tablet holder is optional, and a RAM mount cell phone holder can be factory-specified. Driving control upgrades include a wiper/indicator stalk with a more automotive feel and improved self-cancelling for the indicator function, enhancing safety on the road.

Enhancements to CVT – the mark of Steyr

Larger STEYR tractors have long been synonymous with CVT continuously variable transmission technology. A defining new feature of the latest STEYR Impuls CVT tractors is the ability to further customize transmission settings, to deliver a new driving experience and ensure maximum efficiency, Custom transmission settings now allow operators to adjust, save and recall required vehicle behaviour characteristics based on personal preferences and application requirements, a feature unique to the range.

Meanwhile, Impuls CVT driving behaviour and characteristics have been enhanced in several areas. These include improved acceleration and deceleration behaviour, upgraded shuttle behaviour, greater drive pedal sensitivity, the introduction of a cruise control pedal override feature, and enhanced sensitivity and position detection for the Multicontroller lever, which can be used for CVT operation.

An advanced joystick option, with F/R transmission features, will be available for the new Impuls CVT tractors, allowing drivers to operate key functions and services from the one joystick with fewer hand movements.

The all-new Steyr ‘S’ front loader line has been developed to enable a ‘one-stop shop’ purchase at the customer’s local Steyr dealer, allowing them to select the ideal tractor/loader combination for their specific needs. Enhanced specification and customer support mean the new range aims to even more closely match customers’ needs and their expectations of STEYR products and services.

A full range of capacities and specifications

There are 20 models across two ranges in the new STEYR ‘S’ front loader line. They are offered with premium specifications and are compatible with STEYR tractor ranges from the Kompakt S and Kompakt models, through the Multi, Expert CVT and Profi series, to the Impuls CVT and Absolut CVT. A range of implements/attachments can be ordered directly with the tractor and front loader.

The flagship T range is designed for demanding material handling work, and comprises 10 models with lift heights from 3.75m to 4.70m and lift capacities from 1,390kg to 2,720kg. A proven hydraulic self-leveling system features integral compensation cylinders connected to the implement dumping hydraulic cylinders, for high accuracy and faster cycle times. For even greater comfort an AUTO-UNLOAD System option synchronizes grab-opening and bucket-dumping functions. As they are fully routed inside the front loader frame and crossbar, the hydraulic lines are well protected from damage.

The versatile and durable U front loader range, with mechanical self-leveling, is ideal for everyday handling tasks. As with the T models, the hydraulic lines are routed inside the frame. Maximum lift heights cover 3.50-4.50m, with maximum lift capacities from 1,210-2,230kg.

For both the T and U ranges, the SHOCK Eliminator shock absorber system is standard, ensuring comfortable driving when transporting loads. The hitching and unhitching of the front loader arms is easy and quick, thanks to the automatic FITLOCK 2+ System. The numbering of the new Steyr S front loader range provides a clear explanation of each model’s capabilities. As an example, the S4020T has a maximum lifting height of 4.0 meters and a lifting capacity of 2.0 tonnes, with the ‘T’ denoting the premium range specification.

The factory-installed loader-ready kit comes with a common bracket and MACH System multi quick-coupler for fast connection of hydraulic and electrical services. Front loader control is done via the tractor hydraulic valves and joysticks with third and fourth hydraulic service functions. For better stability, a robust crossbar is standard and there are integrated engine hood guards.

These new configurations are designed to simplify, at the point of order, the process of specifying an Absolut CVT tractor according to key customer requirements. Upon selecting a package there is the bonus of a pricing advantage to the customer. Custom configuration, for the hallmark Steyr fully-tailored feature-by-feature specification, remains available.

Visually and dynamically, the new Absolut CVT models are very different from their predecessors. The styling of the new four-model line-up; 6185 Absolut CVT (200hp), 6200 Absolut CVT (220hp), 6220 Absolut CVT (241hp), and 6240 Absolut CVT (261hp), with their respective maximum engine output, embraces the latest STEYR signature design. Impressive LED work light performance is a characteristic of the previous models. Comfort is taken to a new level on Steyr tractors with pneumatic cab suspension available for the first time.

The new iteration of the highly efficient S-Control CVT transmission is enhanced with customizable driveline software. Around the Absolut CVT, there is an abundance of smart features which assist with productivity and ergonomics. The Stage V FPT Industrial NEF67 engine powering the Absolut CVT is compatible with 100% HVO, a synthetic bio-fuel, with service intervals now reaching 750-hours, cementing the tractor’s eco-credentials.

Evolution Package

Distilling the rich specification of the STEYR Absolut CVT, the Evolution package selects the most commonly chosen features in a defined configuration with the option to upgrade. Contained within this package is the new front linkage, which shares hardware with its larger Terrus CVT stablemate, and there is the option to add a front PTO. The 150 l/min hydraulic pump is standard, with a 170 l/min option, supplying the four or five electro-hydraulic remote valves customers can choose from.

A four-speed rear PTO allied with a 10,463kg rear linkage lift capacity will ensure the Absolut CVT meets the biggest of implement requirements. There is the choice of the Deluxe or Active Luxury STEYR cab, with pneumatic cab suspension available as an upgrade. Powering the new 16 and 20 LED light options a 200-amp alternator is selected.

Excellence Package

The Excellence is the premium Absolut CVT package created to meet the highest customer requirements for maximum productivity and performance. This specification leans more towards automation, with features such as Front Linkage Management and Easy-Tronic II (Advanced Headland and electro-hydraulic remote management) as standard. In this configuration, the Absolut CVT is Steyr S-Guide ready, which also includes variable-ratio steering, with the option for the customer to choose from a variety of Steyr S-TECH guidance complete solutions.

Continuing the performance package theme, the 20 LED work light package is the preferred choice while pneumatic cab suspension is included – ensuring Steyr drivers can combat fatigue throughout the day and into the night. Hydraulic performance in this package is delivered by the 170l/min pump. For convenience, the Excellence package also specifies automatic linkage stabilizers and a hydraulic top link, now with an ergonomic latch and gauge for easier use.

Orange Package

For municipal users, it is also possible to specify the new Steyr Absolut CVT tractors with a comprehensive package of municipal frames and associated features in this new ‘Orange’ specification. This package, which will be available from April, is tailored specifically for municipal operators, with features that are more in line with the sector such as variable-ratio steering, two-speed PTO, and municipality light bar.

The Absolut CVT experience

The distinctive new look of the Steyr Absolut CVT tractors extends from the hood styling through to the cab exterior, with features such as front axle guards that double as service access steps, and easy-clean aluminum cab steps that conceal the unique hand-wash tank and egress lighting bringing several practical benefits to match, keeping everything clean, clear and easily accessible. The new powerful LED work lights provide brighter light and a greater coverage area for safer, easier, and less tiring work at night. In addition, there are also LED fold-back beacons, which are not only stylish but practical and highly visible.

Excellent operator comfort

The pneumatic cab suspension fitted to Absolut CVT tractors is exclusive to the Steyr brand. Customers choosing to specify the optional factory-fitted system benefit from a cossetting ride superior to that from a passive mechanical system, providing smoother field travel, maximizing operating ease while minimizing fatigue. Steyr is well-known for providing a superior operator experience, and Absolut CVT tractors also feature automotive-grade cab interior materials, cooled storage, a new monitor rail with USB power sockets, an improved front wiper (with a 60% increase in coverage), and an automotive-style self-canceling indicator.

Enhanced driveability

The latest Steyr S-Control CVT features unique customizable transmission settings. Steyr engineers have developed the transmission software to improve acceleration/deceleration behavior, shuttle modulation, drive pedal sensitivity, cruise control pedal override, and both the sensitivity and the position detection of the Multicontroller, as well as cruise control pedal override. It is also possible, via the intuitive S-Tech 700 display, to select the engine torque response and adjust according to operator preference and application requirements, and then store and recall the S-Control CVT settings as necessary.

In the field, the foot drive pedal override allows the driver to set a 2.5-10.0km/h speed increase over the target cruise control, useful for turning at the headland for example. The kick-down function speeds up transmission ratio change time for fast acceleration, while fast deceleration gives the option to bring the tractor quickly to a halt or, when deactivated, to slow it in the same manner as releasing pressure from the foot throttle. A fast stop feature can be programmed to bring the transmission swiftly to a stop, a feature particularly ideal for loader work.
