iXflow-E is available on both steel and aluminium booms. It is easy for the operator to program the number and size of sections that fit their requirements and fields the best to their requirements and field situations. The combination of IsoMatch GEOCONTROL and GPS allows the operator to reduce overlap and over dosing, to increase crop quality and save costs. All this is in combination with high flow rates, because there is no impact on the section length, no loss of pressure or an unequal flow between sections. iXflow-E is also fully compatible with the iXclean Pro automatic cleaning and rinsing system. Rest liquid is sprayed in the field automatically, resulting in a low volume of rest liquid in the sprayer and spot contamination at the farm or in the field is avoided.

The Kverneland iXflow-E electric ball valve features a robust, electric and stainless steel ball valve, that is very reliable compared to solenoid or plunger valves. Without any wearing parts and the self-cleaning-effect the ball valve stands out in reliability. The ball valve temporarily utilizes an extremely low amount of power and provides a high capacity flow in a compact valve design. See & Spray Ultimate’s targeted spray technology was designed by Blue River Technology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of John Deere. Cameras and processors mounted on John Deere’s new carbon-fiber truss-style boom utilize the combined power of computer vision and machine learning to detect weeds from crop plants. There is one camera mounted every one meter across the width of the boom, which equates to 36 cameras on a 120-foot boom scanning more than 2,100 square feet at once. The accuracy of the target spray is enhanced by BoomTrac Ultimate, the new, industry-leading boom height control system from John Deere.

“While operating at up to 12 mph, See & Spray Ultimate’s targeted spray technology can help farmers reduce their non-residual herbicide use by more than two-thirds and maintain a hit rate comparable to traditional spraying. For farmers, this decreased herbicide use can significantly lower herbicide costs, reduce tendering stops, and help them cover more acres per day.”

said Peitz.

Another key component of See & Spray Ultimate is the split tank with dual-product capability, which helps farmers better control weeds and battle herbicide resistance.

“We executed several strip trials, and in one strip trial in Illinois soybeans, we compared the weed control results of a broadcast, single tank mix to See & Spray Ultimate’s dual product solution system. The single tank mix had three modes of action and with the dual product, we were able to add a fourth mode of action that wouldn’t be as effective with a one tank mix due to antagonism. The See & Spray Ultimate dual product pass with the fourth mode of action resulted in 7% better weed control than the broadcast pass, providing better yield protection for the farmer.  Through the addition of another mode of action, chances for herbicide resistance development are also reduced, adding another layer of yield protection for the future.”

Peitz said.

Two tank options are available, 1,200 and 1,000 gallons. The 1,200-gallon option is split into a 450-gallon tank for targeted spraying and a 750-gallon tank for broadcast spraying. The 1,000-gallon option is split into a 350-gallon tank for targeted spraying and a 650-gallon tank broadcast spraying.

“Farmers can apply a residual broadcast application and non-residual targeted application in a pre-emergence pass or targeted spray only as a clean-up pass. This also allows farmers to rethink their fungicide and liquid fertilizer passes,”

Peitz said.

John Deere MY23 Sprayers come factory equipped with JDLink connectivity, plus a new integrated StarFire 7000 GPS receiver, and Generation 4 CommandCenter display. The StarFire 7000 receiver builds upon the success of its predecessors and brings to market a new type of RTK signal, SF-RTK. SF-RTK is the easiest RTK solution to use relying solely on satellite communication. These technologies combined, enable the operator to reduce overlap and maximize inputs all with less stress.

As See & Spray Ultimate travels across the field, the Generation 4 Display allows a farmer to analyze savings by seeing how much ground was covered compared to how much was sprayed. After a pass is made, a map showing weed pressure within each field is available in John Deere Operations Center. This enables a farmer to compare the weed map to their yield map and make decisions about their weed-control program. Peitz said these analytical tools provide insights to make more-informed field management decisions year after year.

“From a sustainability standpoint, See & Spray Ultimate can help farmers use less herbicide and decrease opportunities for drift, and that’s better for everyone,”

The recognitions highlight how Case IH equipment and technology has successfully helped farmers achieve maximum productivity. The award-winning innovations include:

The winners in all categories of the competition are awarded the “Farmers’ Sympathy Award”, which are then traditionally handed out to agricultural machinery manufacturers at the agricultural machinery exhibition, “Golden Autumn”.

This year, the Primera DMC 9000 large-area seed drill won the competition for “Best Agricultural Machine 2021” in the category “seed drills and planting machinery”.

Abbey Machinery LESS Applicators are key to efficiently meeting emissions reduction regulations while saving money through the precise application of valuable, nutrient-dense slurry.

There are a few key steps farms can take to reduce nitrogen emissions (nitrous oxide and ammonia) to the air and the loss of nitrates to water. Most importantly is the better utilization of applied N sources through the efficient use of N in organic manures to improve the carbon footprint of the farm and food produced.

N, P, and K nutrients are fundamental to effective food production. Crops rely on balanced nutrition from N, P and K to grow. Healthy grass transfers the nutrients through herd consumption promoting the health and energy of the herd.

In developing a sustainability program, the operator must account for factors such as weather, soil type, and local conditions when applying these nutrients to ensure nutrients are applied as efficiently as possible. Abbey Machinery LESS applications work with various technical controls such as NIR and ISOBUS to support slurry nutrient measurements and application control for optimal spreading. It is essential to consider the nutrients that are applied are delivered at the right rate at the right time and in the right place.

Abbey Machinery has a range of mounted and stand-alone low emissions slurry spreading applicators to meet new regulations. Slurry applicator models include a DM Band Spreader, Trailing Shoe, Shallow Disc Injector, and Cereal Applicators in a variety of different sizes ranging from 6 to 24 meters depending on the model, all for efficient and precise slurry spreading. Abbey applicators are also built to support umbilical systems.

Included in the Abbey Machinery range is the Trailing Shoe applicator. The Abbey Trailing Shoe technology distributes the slurry on the ground underneath the canopy of the grass.  This ensures nutrients are absorbed faster, leaf contamination is reduced, and carbon emissions are reduced to the absolute minimum.

As with all LESS equipment, the timing and accurate placement of the slurry maximize the optimum nutrition and sustainable quantities of N, P, and K to the leafy growing sward. The Trailing Shoe technology parts the grass while applying the slurry to the soil surface and minimizes contamination of the leaf. The Trailing Shoe results in up to 60% reduction in N loss (as ammonia) to the atmosphere compared to traditional spreading methods. The Trailing Shoe applicator returns slurry to silage ground recycling nutrients efficiently and maximizing slurry fertilizer.

The revolutionary GUSS made its debut to the world in 2017 and immediately received awards and rave reviews for its precision and efficiency giving farmers, growers, and orchard spraying businesses the ability to lower labor and overhead costs as well as increase precision, efficiency, safety, and profitability with this autonomous machine. Customers throughout the world asked for this technologically advanced machine in a smaller version to make autonomous spraying in vineyards and high-density orchards possible.

GUSS Automation jumped into action to design, develop and debut mini GUSS. This progressive machine uses a combination of GPS, LiDAR and the latest technology to autonomously roll down each row spraying with precision and efficiency. A single operator can monitor up to eight mini GUSS machines from a vehicle, office or home while the nurse truck supplies the spray product when mini GUSS signals for a refill.

“Since debuting GUSS in 2017, the number one request we consistently received was to build a smaller version to fit in vineyards and other high-density permanent crops. Mini GUSS was designed to fit these tight spacings, while still providing the high performance our customers have come to expect from a GUSS sprayer,”

said Gary Thompson, COO of GUSS Automation.

Mini GUSS is 6-feet wide, 5-foot 4-inches tall, and 20-feet long, has a 400-gallon tank and a 3.8-liter Cummins diesel engine to tackle the most strenuous terrain. GUSS Automation offers two-tower options for mini GUSS: a vineyard tower for two-row applications and an apple tower for high-density trellised orchards.

GUSS was developed out of necessity. Orchard spraying business owner, Dave Crinklaw dealt with the shortage of agricultural labor in his own business and he found himself looking for answers and the solution came in the form of a driverless orchard sprayer. After developing and introducing a fleet of GUSS sprayers into his own custom application business, Crinklaw decided to make GUSS sprayers available for any grower to own. GUSS Automation just recently announced the delivery of their 100^th GUSS sprayer.

Mini GUSS is the next evolution of this technology, allowing many more crops to be sprayed autonomously. Its compact design makes it the right fit for vineyards, high-density orchards, berries, hops, and other high-value crops with a tight row spacing. Mini GUSS will be making its debut in the spring of 2022.

The growth of GUSS has been an exciting journey for Crinklaw Farm Services owner, Dave Crinklaw and his team. GUSS (Global Unmanned Spray System) was developed out of necessity. Crinklaw dealt with the shortage of labor in his commercial application business and found himself looking for answers and the solution came in the form of a driverless orchard sprayer.

This progressive idea would take a team to make it materialize. Research and development began at Crinklaw Farm Services in Kingsburg, California in 2014 to develop the first GUSS prototype. After three and a half years, their commitment to developing the first autonomous orchard sprayer paid off. Crinklaw Farm Services built 10 autonomous sprayers and put the GUSS fleet to work for their orchard spraying business in 2018.

They were able to spray more acres with increased precision and efficiency with less labor. The single operator could now monitor up to eight GUSS machines from the vehicle while the nurse trucks supplied the spray material when GUSS signaled for a refill. It wasn’t long before growers took notice of how GUSS would change their business as well and wanted GUSS in their orchards.

Crinklaw and his team began manufacturing more machines and the GUSS team was ecstatic to debut their autonomous orchard sprayer at the 2018 World Ag Expo in Tulare, California. GUSS drove through the show orchard showing all spectators how it uses a combination of GPS, LiDAR, and the latest technology to maneuver through the orchard with ease. Growers were amazed by this innovative machine and the buzz throughout the agriculture industry spread.

With this success and more machines in production, GUSS Automation, LLC was born, and with the need for a larger facility to meet increasing demand, the team relocated to their new building in July 2019 with just nine employees. The revolutionary Orchard GUSS was delivered to the first outside customer, Blair Ground Services in December of 2019.

“We absolutely love the machines. We do at least 40-50 acres more per day with a crew of four versus the traditional manpower-driven tractor. The best things are efficiency, safety, and precision. A lot of things made us opt for machines, like efficiency. And labor costs are going sky high, so that was a big factor. There’s less liability and more dependability,”

said Ryan Boucher, co-owner of Blair Ground Services.

GUSS Automation, LLC continues to grow and currently has 35 employees which include a tech team, engineers, field testers, customer success team, and their fabrication and assembly crews. With the rising demand for GUSS, they are streamlining the manufacturing process to double production to two GUSS machines per week. GUSS Automation has also built their outside team of trusted authorized GUSS dealers in the US and Australia to meet customer needs.

GUSS Automation continues to be an industry innovator. As the need for autonomous agriculture equipment continues to increase, GUSS Automation is finding new ways and developing new machines to meet those needs. Their most current development is in final testing and will be unveiled this fall. Those that have gotten a sneak peek at the new machine are eager to put it to work to see how it will improve their farming businesses.

The new cab on the 800R is larger and quieter than previous models and surrounds operators in all-day comfort and outstanding visibility. Operators will appreciate the extra 2 inches of headroom and 24% wider entry path. Two comfort and convenience, and visibility packages are available – Premium and Ultimate.

The Ultimate comfort and convenience package includes a heated, ventilated leather seat that can swivel up to 24 degrees to the left or right, plus the ActiveSeat II suspension for an ultra-smooth ride. The Ultimate package also includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen satellite- and smartphone-ready radio, five USB ports, a 12-volt outlet, footrests, refrigerator, carpeted floor mat, and dual-tilt steering column with the leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Ultimate visibility package includes factory-installed LED work lights and beacons, along with eight strategically placed service lights on the cab. On the vehicle, the Ultimate comes with factory-installed LED work lights and a single beacon on the rear of the floater. A backup camera and harness for left- and right-hand side-view cameras are also factory-installed and included in the Ultimate package.

Every John Deere 800R comes equipped with integrated precision-ag solutions, factory-installed Generation 4 Display, and a 4G JDLink MTG (modem). Once JDLink is activated, owners can stream their machine and field data to their John Deere Operations Center account free of charge. This lets farmers stay ahead of logistics by monitoring their equipment via the Operations Center mobile app in near real-time from anywhere. And ag-service providers can use the AgLogic app to make efficient scheduling decisions, assign work orders, and analyze machine performance. The JDLink connection also enables John Deere Connected Support with proactive machine health monitoring tools via the customer’s John Deere dealer.

Three John Deere DS35 Dry Box options are available and include the NL 4500G4 Edge Box, NL5000G5 Box, and the new N4500G4 HP Lime Box.

The NL4500G4 Edge Box makes it possible for the floater to spread product across the field edges without applying it into waterways or ditches and is backed by a two-year New Leader warranty. Previously, to achieve this level of control, operators had to manually flip switches on a New Leader controller mounted in the cab. These controls have now been replaced with ISO compatible, touch-screen controls that are integrated into the Generation 4 Display.

For lime applications, John Deere is offering a new HP Lime Box, the high-performance option from New Leader. Compared to previous models the HP Lime Box helps operators cover more acres per day by applying higher rates at higher speeds – up to 16 to 18 mph. The higher application rates and speeds are possible thanks to the wider conveyor speed range, optional conveyor chain, and larger gate opening of the HP Lime Box.

Another improvement John Deere made to the 800R was the addition of new common hydraulic pumps that significantly decrease the amount of change over time required to switch between wet and dry systems. All New Leader dry-bin configurations, Hagie Liquid Systems, and Air Boom attachments can now all use the same hydraulic pumps. “Previously changing from wet to dry was a 10- to 12-hour job. Now, the changeover can be done in about half the time, saving time and money,”

Peitz said.

To help reduce cab clutter and give operators better storage options, John Deere increased the size of the storage box located under the platform of the 800R, making it three times larger than previous models.

The LS20 Liquid System of the 800R offers more options than the previous LS475. Optional front fill and side fill will now be offered for the liquid system. The new LS20 is available with 30-inch turrets and 60-inch cams, or 60-inch on-center cam locks with 15-inch on-center high-flow five-way nozzle bodies.

The 800R comes equipped with a field-proven 90-foot boom and 2,000-gallon solution tank that delivers a best-in-class floater ride quality and operator comfort.
