WCCO Belting‘s patented Edge Defender cleat for combine harvest headers (draper platforms) is now available for aftermarket distribution and to agricultural equipment manufacturers worldwide. The angled cleat design increases yield with product flow control technology that directs the crop to the center of the draper and onto the feeder belt. It also reduces downtime from buildup under the belt by pulling crops away from the cutting edge. The belting technology was first introduced at the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural technology, Agritechnica, in 2019.

The Edge Defender is manufactured with the company’s patented RAPTOR belt construction, the global gold standard sourced by most major agricultural equipment manufacturers in harvesting applications for small grains and edible beans. The invention boosts uptime and protects the profitability of harvest by effectively conveying crop on the belt and into the feeder house. In addition, the cleat design uses lightweight connector plates in an angled installation that creates a smoother and more efficient transition over the rollers.

Jean Voorhees, vice president of business development at WCCO Belting, said:

“We continue to innovate conveyor belting, this time for crop harvest, with the launch of the Edge Defender. Raptor redefined performance in the industry and remains the best in the market, and our company’s focus remains on raising the bar for our customers all over the world. We’ve achieved that with the Edge Defender cleat design.”

Raptor Draper Belting with the new Edge Defender angled cleat is available for limited makes and models of harvest headers.

When it comes to strip-tillage products, Unverferth has led the industry in innovation since the early 1990s with deep-tillage products such as the Zone-Builder and Ripper-Stripper tools. With evolving farming practices, technology, and increased demand for in-row fertilizer placement, the company announces the introduction of the Raptor strip-tillage tool. This versatile tool tills a strip of soil for planting while leaving between-row residue intact to help increase organic matter and sequester carbon.

The Raptor strip-till tool features TerrainPro row-units with independent depth control to optimally follow soil terrain for creating the ideal seedbed in six stages:

The leading swivel coulter with a 20” blade features 1,500 lbs. of down pressure to cut through the heaviest residue.

The free-floating row cleaners with curved finger design help clear residue from the strip.

The centrally mounted crowfoot-style wheel maintains row unit depth independently from row to row.

The tillage shank precisely tills the soil from 6” to 12” deep to manage the root zone hardpan. Shanks feature 2-1/4” cast points and integrated 1-1/2” wear bars for long-term, trouble-free use. Model 2030 features spring-cushioned auto-reset shanks with 2,000 lbs. of point-load pressure and Model 2015 offers shear-bolt protected shanks with 5,000 lbs. of sheer pressure.

To create the seedbed, 18” notched concave closing coulters are mounted on each side of the shank to keep the soil in the strip. They feature tool-free down pressure, width, and angle adjustability to fine-tune the seedbed finish.

Standard trailing crowfoot-style conditioning wheels break up clods, condition the strip and the unique self-cleaning design prevents plugging with rocks, mud or other debris. Other conditioning options include 15” Rolling Harrow baskets for additional tillage or 15” rubber press wheels for added soil firming.

Raptor strip-till tools are available in pull-type 12 or 16-row models with 30” spacings or 3-pt. mounted units in 6- 8- and 12-row models with 30”, 36” or 38” row spacings. Pull-type models are constructed with a heavy-duty 7” x 7” toolbar for reliability and feature a narrow folded width of 13’6” for easier transport and storage. The toolbar features 15 degrees of upward and 5 degrees of downward flex to follow uneven terrain. Mounted 3-pt. MT models are manufactured with heavy-duty double-wall steel with a 6” x 6” rear mounting bar for long-term operation. A flex-frame is available as an option for 12-row 3-pt. MT models.

Pull-Type models can be equipped with liquid or dry fertilizer distribution systems for the ultimate one-pass tillage solution. LT models feature a 1200-gallon liquid tank with a 50-gallon sump for keeping the pump primed on sidehills. DT models feature dual, 6-ton dry fertilizer tanks for single or dual material distribution.

The rearward positioning of the tanks allows enhanced visibility of the TerrainPro row units from the tractor cab. Both feature ISOBUS rate control that provides easy operation from the tractor’s virtual terminal and can be used with section control to automatically apply pre-loaded field fertilizer prescriptions. Mounted 3-pt. units can also be equipped with optional liquid or dry fertilizer shank attachments with a rear hitch for pulling a fertilizer caddy.

WCCO Belting announced two new products – a angled cleat extension for its RAPTOR draper belting and a new belt design for belted chain assemblies for the agriculture industry – at the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural technology, Agritechnica. These designs, both patent-pending, demonstrate WCCO Belting’s commitment to be the leading value innovator for agricultural belting solutions worldwide

WCCO Belting’s patent-pending enhancement for draper belting is an angled cleat technology manufactured with the company’s RAPTOR belt construction, the gold standard in harvesting applications for small grains and edible beans. For combine harvest headers (draper platforms), swathers, and mergers, the cleat extension is designed to increase efficiency and output while reducing downtime from material buildup under the belt. The angled cleat directs crop to the center of the draper belt and into the feeder house, successfully pulling material away from the cutter bar. In addition, an angled connection method creates a smooth, quiet transition of the draper belt on the roller.

The design of its patent-pending belt for belted chain assemblies will improve process efficiency for assembly manufacturers and redefine performance for original equipment manufacturers and growers in root vegetable harvesting applications including potatoes, sugar beets, carrots, onions, and more. The belt can universally accommodate any pitch requirement and is engineered with a simple hardware concept for easy assembly and disassembly. The construction of WCCO Belting’s belt for belted chain is a strong, yet flexible design that supports the belt’s ability to move around the rollers for less pressure on the splice. Low elongation in the fabric design reduces slippage and promotes steady tension during operation. In addition, sealed edges prevent moisture wicking into the belt carcass, which eliminates delamination.

“We are excited to announce these products at Agritechnica, a fair that celebrates the future of agricultural technology,” said Jean Voorhees, Vice President of Business Development at WCCO Belting. “As a company dedicated to value innovation, we are proud to see our latest solutions help move agricultural equipment – and the entire industry – forward.”
