The same performance as diesel with up to 30% lower running costs

The T6 Methane Power delivers the performance of its diesel equivalent –the same power at 180 hp, torque at 740 Nm, and durability –with the added advantage of up to 30% reduction in running costs. It also offers operators fuel flexibility and can run on either biomethane or compressed natural gas (CNG).

Compared to emission limits allowed under European Stage V emission regulations, the T6 Methane Power produces 98% less particulate matter. When running biomethane, it can provide a 10 to 15% reduction in CO2 for a negative emission profile. A simple, maintenance-free, three-way catalyst is used after treatment, eliminating the need for exhaust gas recirculation and selective catalytic reduction components, as well as diesel exhaust fluid.

The T6 Methane Power features an all-new NEF 6.7-liter engine specifically developed for agricultural applications by FPT Industrial and benefits from the company’s 20+ years of experience in natural gas powertrain technology development. To date, FPT Industrial has produced more than 50,000 natural gas engines.

On the T6 Methane Power, the gas tanks with 49 gallons of capacity are stored in the same position as the diesel tanks on the standard T6 model. This maintains the excellent visibility from the cab and results in no restrictions in access. Fuel storage under the cab has been optimized, ensuring current production tire size offerings and track width settings. Additional options such as mid-mount valves are also available.

For extended periods between fill-ups, the front-mounted range extender offers an additional 71 gallons of fuel capacity with a bolted connection to a port on the front of the tractor. The tractor is also fitted with gas connection points at the front and rear, enabling additional fuel storage that could be mounted on trailers and implements.

T6 Methane Power with biomethane: The next step toward zero-carbon farming

The T6 Methane Power tractor is a key element in New Holland’s Energy Independent Farm concept, closing the loop of a truly circular economy, from fields to energy generation and back to fields, a complete CO₂-neutral cycle.

Farmers can grow energy crops and use agricultural waste to generate biomethane and power their T6 Methane Power tractor with this sustainable fuel to achieve near-zero CO₂ emissions. Livestock and dairy farmers can take this virtuous cycle even further by producing biomethane from manure, which subtracts CO₂ from the environment, resulting in a carbon-negative footprint.

Farmers can also use the byproducts of bio digestion as natural fertilizers on their fields, orchards, or vineyards, closing the circular economy loop.

The Bobcat T7X is fully battery-powered and is built to be more productive from the ground up with electric actuation and propulsion. It is also quieter with high-performance torque and more powerful than any diesel-fuelled track loader that has ever come before it, all while eliminating any carbon emissions.

Originally developed for the North American market, the Bobcat T7X is undergoing internal testing and the gathering of customer feedback is planned for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region to identify its commercial potential.

Scott Park, President, and CEO of Doosan Bobcat said:

In the T7X, the traditional hydraulic workgroup has been completely replaced with an electrical drive system consisting of electric cylinders and electric drive motors, which means virtually no fluids. The new, all-electric Bobcat T7X uses just under one liter of eco-friendly coolant compared to around 216 liters of fluid in its diesel/hydraulic equivalent model.

The all-electric platform enables instantaneous power and peak torque available at every operating speed. The operator no longer must wait for the standard hydraulic system to build up power.

Joel Honeyman, Vice President of Global Innovation at Doosan Bobcat, added:

“This machine is a technological feat for Bobcat and for the entire industry. We challenged the status quo to deliver a connected, all-electric machine designed for power and performance that previously was not possible. We are excited to share this advancement with the world and proud of the hard work that has gone into making this a reality.”

The T7X operates with zero emissions and reduced noise and vibration generated by the machine. It works quietly and efficiently in noise-sensitive areas and indoors, which significantly lowers sound levels and improves the working environment.

It can also significantly lower daily operating costs when considering the reduction in annual maintenance costs and elimination of diesel, engine oil, diesel exhaust fluid, and hydraulic parts.

At the heart of the T7X is a powerful 62 kW lithium-ion battery from technology partner, Green Machine Equipment, Inc. While applications vary, each charge can support common daily work operations and the use of intelligent work modes for up to four hours of continuous operation time and a full day of operation during intermittent use.

The intelligence of the power management system is programmed to sense when loads are increasing, automatically backing off power when not needed to preserve the total energy use and extend the machine’s runtime.

The T7X will initially be available only in the North American market but the company intends to expand this to other regions in the future. During the company’s CES Media Days news conference, Doosan Bobcat NA (North America) announced a strategic partnership with South Carolina-based Sunbelt Rentals, a leading rental equipment company in North America with more than 1025 locations, with a strong presence in Europe in the UK, Germany, and France.

Through this partnership, Sunbelt Rentals committed to a significant investment in a large fleet of Bobcat T7X all-electric compact track loaders and electric compact excavators in North America, which will be co-branded and made available in 2022 and beyond. Sunbelt Rentals will be the first national equipment rental company to adopt Bobcat’s battery-electric technology and make it available to customers, supporting the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) focus for both companies.

The new 304 and 305 CR models are the final machines to be reengineered to the Cat next-generation mini hydraulic excavator line concept. From the 1.5- to 10-tonne class models, all 17 – 20 Cat mini hydraulic excavators in the range (depending on region) offer common features and consistent controls layout to simplify training and operator adaptation.

New 304 increases stability

Built with a new reduced radius design, the 304 features a narrow, 1700-mm (66.9-in) track width, 254 mm (10 in) slimmer than the 304 E2, for more versatility and access to confined spaces. While narrower, the new 304 design increases the performance, balance, and stability of the 4-tonne class model. Its reduced radius allows for greater stability, both 360-degree and when traveling with loads, while its extra counterweight option takes the model to an even higher level of stability.

Compact performance of the 305 CR

The new engine on the 5-tonne class Cat 305 CR Excavator delivers nearly 9% greater power to increase machine performance. Hydraulic system improvements provide higher breakout forces – 49.2 kN (11,061 lbf) bucket, 28.3 kN (6,362 lbf) standard stick and 25.2 kN (5,665 lbf) long stick – to improve digging efficiency in hard rock applications. It also offers 140 mm (5.6 in) deeper dig depths than the 305 E2, giving it more application flexibility. Its compact radius swing reduces overhang when working to the side, while its 1980-mm (78-in) track width and new extra counterweight option help to optimize stability and lift performance in confined spaces.

Advanced Efficiency

Both excavator models now offer an angle dozer blade option to optimize machine flexibility in backfilling and finish grading applications. In addition to offering ample above- and below-grade travel with standard float function for easy clean-up, the angle blade moves 45 degrees left or right of center. Increasing efficiencies and reducing operator interaction with final grading, angle blade movement is controlled by the right-hand joystick, while the left joystick handles machine drive.

Tailoring machine weight to job requirements, interchangeable counterweight packages offer the balance between low ground pressure and lifting performance. Their industry-exclusive Cat Stick Steer System simplifies machine control by allowing the operator to switch from conventional lever/foot-pedal steering controls to low-effort joystick operation. Two travel speed ranges and standard cruise control facilitate moving around the job site with minimum operator interaction.

Meeting U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emission standards, the turbocharged Cat C1.7 Turbo engine delivers higher power than the previous C2.4 engine. Standard auto-idle, auto engine shutdown, and efficient load-sensing hydraulics with variable displacement pumps help to lower fuel usage at the site for more affordable operation. High main-relief pressures, coupled with flow rates, generate the hydraulic capacity for high digging and lifting forces and more efficient use of a range of attachments. Complete with quick-disconnect lines, the standard auxiliary system provides the choice of one-way, two-way, or continuous flow.

Next-generation comfort, savings

Common to most Cat next-generation mini hydraulic excavators, the sealed and pressurized cab enclosure is available with heating and/or air conditioning for all-weather climate control. The cab’s large glass areas plus skylight afford all-around visibility. The large display with an advanced touchscreen option provides intuitive machine function control and easy monitoring of critical operating parameters. A canopy option is available in some regions.

Daily maintenance checks for the 304 and 305 CR are quickly made from ground level through side doors. Expanded use of common parts throughout the line plus their damage-resistant exterior construction help to reduce parts inventory investment and lower repair costs. Increased service intervals mean these excavators spend more time on the job and less time in the shop.

2022 models feature the improved TA22 transmission by Cat. This powershift transmission has less restrictive torque protection in lower gears, a more consistent inching pedal, and increased torque ratings. The clutch capacity has also increased which results in 3% more torque in 3rd gear, 5% more torque in 4th gear, and 10% more torque in 5th gear.

An advanced hydraulic configuration with center located connections, six hydraulic couplers, one ¾ coupler, and a case drain will be included on all new units. Optional features include Power Beyond, two additional ¾ couplers, dual case drains, and a high-flow hydraulic system. This flexible and robust setup puts farmers in control of implement options, specifically enhancing the performance of air drills on Versatile tractors.

All DeltaTrack and four-wheel drive and models include multiple cab improvements. The tractors feature a more comfortable seat, audio system enhancements, and an available 12” monitor. Additional options include dual rotary beacons, cell phone holders, and toolboxes. New LED lighting packages feature almost three times more lumens on the Deluxe Package (than the standard), and more than four times the lumens on the Deluxe Plus Package, which includes 21 lights producing more than 45,000 lumens total. These superior lighting systems allow for longer hours, less fatigue, and better visibility.

An updated decal design and color scheme changes give the tractors a modern and aggressive appearance. The most notable change is the black frame. Versatile’s model year 2022 tractors have been designed to combine power, comfort, and style.

Production of the model year 2022 tractors begins this fall and are available for order now from Versatile dealers. Preview showings are scheduled for the Farm Progress Show (Decatur, Illinois) and Agri-Trade (Red Deer, Alberta).

A new and expanded assembly plant and a logistics center were constructed in record time at the Linnavuori plant, both of which help AGCO Power modernize and streamline its engine manufacturing process.

“Despite a tight schedule and the global COVID-19 pandemic, the investment project has progressed as planned. The investments at the Linnavuori plant enable a more efficient and streamlined production process. Upgrades such as the automated logistics center and state-of-the-art robotics support improved quality, cleanliness, and work ergonomics. In addition, the investment paves way for the launch of production of a new engine family by the end of 2022,”

says Mr. Juha Tervala, CEO of AGCO Power.

Part of the investment was a multi-million euro overhaul to the plant’s machining line. Once fully operational, the 100% automated machining line enables flexible manufacturing of components in-house, reducing costs and increasing control over the production process.

“The successful completion of the project makes AGCO Power’s position in the global powertrain market better than ever. The new engine product family that is being developed will serve AGCO brands (Valtra, Fendt, and Massey Ferguson) more effectively and offer future solutions to customers in the off-road machinery market,”

Mr. Tervala continues.

AGCO Power operates globally and manufactures engines at four plants: Linnavuori, Changzhou, China, Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, and General Rodriguez, Argentina, with an overall capacity of over 100,000 engines per year. In 2022, AGCO Power turns 80 years old, and the company will mark the anniversary with the completion of the plant expansion and the launch of a new, state-of-the-art engine family.

An optimal seedbed with a load-bearing seed horizon where the seeds can be embedded at an even depth over the whole area of the field is the basis for high field emergence and thus for high yields.

It requires an unbroken association between the seed horizon and the capillary water-conducting lower layer to ensure germination in the absence of rainfall. Additionally, rapid heating of the soil and adequate oxygen supply for germinating seeds and a fine crumbled, uniform reconsolidated seedbed for optimal seed coverage are important too.

Power harrows have long since become typical combination machines because they are largely independent of the soil conditions. On heavy soils, it reaches an intensive crumbling. Under light conditions, it can work flat and at a lower rotor speed. The sets of tines rotate on vertical axles for fully horizontal tillage of the soil – no inversion of soil layers and no vertical compression leading to hardpan formation. Consequently, there is no better alternative for seedbed preparation.

A power harrow together with a seed drill is finally an economic high-performance combination. Seedbed preparation and seeding in one pass! All Kverneland power harrows models are exclusively designed to be combined with Kverneland seed drills either modular with front tank and colter bar or with cultivator mounted seed drills.

Power Systems is taking advantage of the crisis to prepare for a shift in its business model towards integrated solutions for drive-power and energy needs in the post-COVID era – with a special focus on sustainable, climate-friendly technologies. This is being aided by a reorganization featuring special business units for “Sustainable Power Solutions” and for China as well as investments in new technologies and site facilities.

Profitable despite revenue hit

“The COVID-19 crisis hit us hard, but we are still profitable, albeit not as profitable as in previous years. However, this is proof positive of the resilient nature of our business,”

said Andreas Schell, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

Profit in the commercial marine segment was adversely affected by the pandemic-related collapse in tourism, among other factors.

Shipyards closed down temporarily, hitting the yacht business, and economic uncertainty in many sectors of the economy led to a slowdown in capital investment and, in particular, shelving of plans to purchase power generation solutions. Public sector sales remained stable.

“The relatively good result for the year is largely down to a strict cost and liquidity management regime which we have applied throughout to mitigate the impact of the drop in revenue,”

emphasized CFO Louise Öfverström. The company says it saw signs of an initial recovery in the second half of the year, however extensive lockdowns in many parts of the world since then continue to dampen customers’ willingness to invest. 

Öfverström continued:

“We expect an improvement in order intake during the first half of 2021, converting into a recovery in sales from the second half of the year with revenues returning to approximately 2019 levels in 2022.

Impact of the pandemic well under control

Ensuring employee health while maintaining production so that customer orders can be fulfilled was one of the key challenges in this pandemic year.

“We managed this very well without having to stray off our chosen transformation path,”

said CEO Andreas Schell.

Three acquisitions drive activities as a solution provider

Despite the financial challenges presented by COVID, Power Systems acquired three businesses last year in order to be able to ramp up activities as a solution provider to customers in a variety of markets. In 2020, Power Systems acquired Kinolt, a Belgian company making uninterruptible power supply systems using rotating flywheels, and Servowatch, a British ship automation manufacturer, as well as taking a majority stake in Qinous, now Power Systems’ microgrid competence center.

The companies are being integrated into the Power Systems division.

“The Rolls-Royce Group enabled us to make these investments in our future in 2020 despite exceedingly difficult economic conditions. This illustrates the great confidence the Group has in us, particularly with regard to climate-friendly and environmentally friendly solutions,”

continued Schell.

Major investment – from fuel cells to production facilities

The company will be continuing down its transformation path in 2021 with selective investment in climate-friendly products, fully integrated solutions, and existing site facilities, as well as continuing to drive the company’s established lines of business.

“This year and last year, the larger-scale investments we made alone in extending our production sites up to a high double-digit-million amount. This is another way we are using the time of crisis to emerge stronger,”

said Dr. Otto Preiss, member of the board for R&D and operations.

Production of the MTU EnergyPack battery storage containers is being expanded to over 50 containers per year at the company’s Ruhstorf facility in Lower Bavaria. In just twelve months, Power Systems has already made its mark on the market for renewable and smart energy solutions with interesting orders, for example in the South Pacific, Costa Rica, Australia, and Norway.

Hydrogen, the fuel of the future

In Friedrichshafen, the company is working hard on ways to exploit hydrogen as the fuel of the future:

“We’re convinced that hydrogen has a key role to play in the green energy revolution,”

stressed Schell.

A demonstration emergency power generator using fuel cell technology is expected to go live in the first half of the year. Developers are also working on hydrogen engines and engines using methanol-based on climate-neutrally produced hydrogen.

Millions being invested in core business

“These major investments in our future are being funded by proceeds from today’s core business. It is the mainstay of our division, which is why we continue to invest heavily in it,”

said Schell. The materials management center in Kluftern near Friedrichshafen will be expanded this year and next. Among other things, the Friedrichshafen assembly line for MTU Series 2000 engines is to be moved temporarily to the 10,000 sqm facility, which has already been approved, to allow refurbishment of the existing plant. Other major investments include a machining center for large engine housings, completion of the plant expansion in Mankato, and the microgrid at the Aiken plant (both in the US), hydrogen infrastructure for the Friedrichshafen and Augsburg plants, and test stand refurbishments.

Newly positioned for customer proximity, the green energy revolution, and new markets

The fundamental strategic course of the Power Systems division is also reflected in its reorganization, which will take effect on 31 March.

“Our transformation to a solution provider requires us to be even closer to customers so that we can make it clear to them what benefits we can now offer them. After all, we’re already so much more than an engine maker,”

Schell continued.

The core business featuring propulsion and drive solutions for vehicles – from combine harvesters to mining machines – and ships are to be pulled together under Mobile Power Solutions. All activities involving diesel and gas engine-powered power plants, from combined heat and power plants to emergency power supplies for safety-critical facilities, will come under Stationary Power Solutions.

The Sustainable Power Solutions unit is of particular importance. It will manage closely all existing and future innovative solutions for more climate-friendly and more environmentally friendly drive power, propulsion, and electrical power supplies. These will range from energy storage containers and fuel cells to the production and use of synthetic fuels. It will promote the use of new technologies for the green energy revolution across all areas of application and ensure that switching to new, climate-friendly solutions is as easy as possible for the company’s customers.

The task of a unit entitled ‘Power Solutions for Greater China‘ will be to continue to develop the growing markets in China.

“We have been positioning ourselves increasingly well in China recently, and just at the end of the year, we signed a sensational contract there for 1,000 engines. We want to become even more successful in this fast-growing market, but the Chinese market requires a special approach. That’s why we need an independent business unit there that can meet Chinese requirements specifically and individually,”

said Schell, explaining this move.

“The new organization is the next logical step in implementing our PS 2030 strategy,”

he added, emphasizing:

“2021 is the year we’re going to transform into a solution provider.”
