Steyr is set to reveal the next step in the development of its Konzept tractor, the Hybrid Drivetrain Konzept, following its shortlisting by the DLG in its Agrifuture Concept awards. From this shortlist, five concepts will be selected in a second-round by the DLG-appointed jury of independent international experts. The digital awards ceremony will take place on 15th February 2022.

A new prize scheme from the Agritechnica organizer, the Agrifuture Concept awards focus on machines that offer the promise of significant technical progress over the coming decade, coupled with the realistic possibility of implementation. The Steyr Hybrid Drivetrain Konzept remains a conceptual study that will not enter production in itself but does include developments beyond those on the original Konzept tractor that may find their way onto production tractors in the future.

“We are really pleased that the Steyr Hybrid Drivetrain Konzept development has been shortlisted for this new award,”

says Peter Friis, Head of Steyr Europe Commercial Operations.

“While not set for production as a whole, this study blends a number of technical developments that may appear on future STEYR tractors, and underlines how we are always seeking to harness the very latest technology make our machines more productive for the customer.”

Einari Vidgrén Foundation, named after the founder of Ponsse Plc, rewarded distinguished forestry experts. In total, the awards amounted to EUR 212,300. The main recognition is the Einari Award, which was given to Kimmo Kulojärvi Oy and Metsäkone Pirinen Oy. The Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Olavi Kauhanen, Pekka Poikolainen, and Mikko Rysä. At the same time, 39 distinguished forest machine operators and 33 harvesting graduates were presented with awards.

“The Foundation’s awards are the high points of the year although the ceremony had to be postponed to 2021. It’s been great to read applications received from customers, forest owners, and harvesting entrepreneurs who have wanted to thank forestry experts for their diligent work and high-quality results. There are so many skilled forestry experts who we can be proud of in this industry”,

says Juha Vidgrén, Chairman of the Einari Vidgrén Foundation.

“In addition to the high-quality results, entrepreneurship always rises high in the Foundation’s remuneration criteria. Einari’s biography was published in Finnish this year, and Einari Vidgren’s own experiences as a machine entrepreneur stand out. These people are not giving up easily and the work has always been done as a team”,

Juha Vidgren says.

Industrial Counsellor Einari Vidgrén, the founder of Ponsse Plc, established the Einari Vidgrén Foundation in 2005 in order to increase appreciation for the work carried out in the field of mechanical harvesting. The foundation’s aim is to heighten awareness of entrepreneurship related to mechanical harvesting and to make the mechanical harvesting sector more attractive as a potential workplace, especially among young people.

Einari Awards

Einari Awards, the Einari Vidgrén Foundation’s annually distributed key recognitions, are granted for long-term professional entrepreneurship in the forest machine sector. This year, the Foundation gave the Einari Awards of EUR 20,000 to Kimmo Kulojärvi Oy in Kemijärvi and Metsäkone Pirinen Oy in Paavola.

The jury thanked Kimmo Kulojärvi Oy for their positive and open attitude towards developing and promoting harvesting. Entrepreneur Kimmo Kulojärvi has been involved in developing the education of operators and entrepreneurs, and he is an active player in the forest industry both locally and in the forest committee of Koneyrittäjät. In addition to his own business, Kimmo Kulojärvi has actively contributed to the development of customers’ operating methods, and he has an exemplary ability to cooperate with different kinds of stakeholders.

The jury thanked Metsäkone Pirinen Oy for its development friendliness and high-quality results. CEO Jukka Pirinen is widely known – outside the forestry sector as well – for his excellent interaction skills with stakeholders and ambition to do things right and as agreed. Metsäkone Pirinen Oy has a positive attitude towards development in cooperation with customers. The company also received special thanks for its role as an employer. The company invests in its machines for the benefit of its employees and takes care of the employees and their good atmosphere.

Agriculture Application Retailers to Be Honored with Local Charitable Donations in 2020

AGCO Corporation announced a unique celebration of its annual Operator of the Year award. With 2020 marking the 15th year of the award, AGCO will be recognizing the retailers who nominated each year’s winning operator with donations to local charities of their choosing. The donations will be announced and distributed this November.

Application professionals provide critical services to growers throughout North America, with skills that improve crop yields and farm revenues. AGCO’s Operator of the Year award recognizes these contributions and is traditionally presented to operators nominated by retailers for high levels of performance, leadership, community support and involvement. However, with the recent healthcare and economic challenges that communities have faced from the coronavirus, providing assistance directly to charitable organizations in 2020 best exemplifies the overall values that the program seeks to reward. The program will return to its original structure of awarding nominated operators in 2021.

“AGCO is proud of the dedication, devotion, and talent of application retailers and their operators that the Operator of the Year award has celebrated for 15 years,”

Equipment Corporation of America (ECA) has promoted John Hayes to branch manager of ECA‘s Jacksonville branch and hired Ben Morgan as a BAUER Product Service Manager.

Hayes will manage all aspects of ECA’s branch in Green Cove Springs, Florida including sales, rental, parts, and service. He has excelled since being hired in 2016 as southeast regional sales manager covering Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and the Caribbean.

ECA Jacksonville’s new branch manager, John Hayes

Hayes’ unique understanding of the challenges foundation contractors face is based on spending most of his career in the geotechnical market, in addition to participating in more than 250 load tests as an employee of a global engineering firm specializing in capacity testing for deep foundations.

He will continue to be active in the deep foundation industry though a variety of trade associations including the Association of Drilled Shaft Contractors (ADSC-IAFD), Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), Geo-Institute, Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), and the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS). Hayes has also authored, co-authored, and presented several industry papers to numerous state and federal transportation events.

“The Florida branch continues to grow and much of that success is attributed to John. ECA anticipates continued expansion in that territory and he’s definitely the right person to lead the charge.”

says Vice President – Sales and Marketing Jeff Harmston.

Morgan brings a unique and valuable perspective to ECA’s customers as product service manager. He most recently served in a similar role with Case Foundation Company (now Keller North America).

New BAUER Product Service Manager, Ben Morgan

Based in Chicago, Morgan supports ECA’s service technicians and customers with information on the capabilities of foundation equipment, matching rigs and tooling to specific applications; and coordinating logistics. His technical understanding of ECA’s foundation equipment traces back to his role as assistant shop manager at Case Foundation’s fabrication shop where he specialized in drilling rigs and cranes.

As a former contractor, Morgan brings a unique focus on the logistics of getting equipment to ECA’s customers. This is based on his first-hand perspective of the repercussions for the contractor when a piece of equipment is not delivered in a timely and cost-effective fashion.

“Ben’s experience at Keller is invaluable to ECA. He brings a new dimension to ECA’s equipment management capabilities by giving us the ability to better understand our client’s perspective.”
