The Alliance 585 tire range has been officially homologated by Manitou as an option for the manufacturer’s range of MLT NewAg telehandlers. This tire option in size 460/70R24 is already available from the factory on MLT NewAg and NewAg XL ranges.

“Alliance 585 tires are now available on many models of the MLT NewAg and NewAg XL ranges. These tires respond to increased demand from customers who are looking for tires suitable for the challenging usage on hard surfaces”,

says Camille Rouvrais, Global Product Manager (MLT).

Alliance Tire Group (Yokohama Off-Highway Tires as of 2021) has been already recognized by Manitou as The Supplier of the Year (2019) and adding another Alliance tire to the factory’s options further proves a steady partnership between both companies.

Efficiency, versatility, and reliability are key

Just as the Manitou MLT NewAg telehandlers are designed for maximum efficiency and versatility, this is also true for the Alliance 585 tire range.

“We see growing tendencies towards machines used for versatile tasks and operations, i.e. machines that are used in various surroundings for loading and unloading, all kinds of tasks on farmyards as well as road transport on a day by day or even hour by hour basis. This requires machines that offer true versatility – such as telehandlers – and this also requires tires that deliver a perfect job whatever the circumstances are. That is exactly what the Alliance 585 stands for”,

summarises Kristoff Van der Burght, Head of OEM, Europe, at Yokohama Off-Highway Tires (previously Alliance Tire Group).

Alliance 585 in brief

Already a bestseller shortly after its launch, this versatile steel-belted tire earned an excellent reputation for delivering top performance and productivity. Particularly developed and built for telehandlers as well as a backhoe and compact loaders, the large and multi-directional tread blocks increase the ground contact area, thus equally allowing for smooth rides on hard surfaces and superior stability even with high loads on hilly terrains.

The massive tread depth with its optimum rubber to void ratio ensures reliable traction and grip, effective self-cleaning abilities on loose surfaces, and a higher non-skid-depth. In addition to steel-belts, also reinforced sidewalls and special compounds actively protect the tire against punctures, cuts, and damage to the tread whilst providing an optimum load-carrying capacity. In sum, these features ensure an excellent tire life with lasting performance.

The Alliance 585 tires are available in 13 sizes, including the important ones for the telehandler application, like 460/70R24, 500/70R24, 440/80R24, 400/80R24.

Manitou Group has introduced a comprehensive range of connected solutions to meet the needs of the construction industry at ConExpo in Las Vegas, including two new work platforms for the North American market and a new Manitou telehandler.

Manitou Group’s new telehandler, the Manitou MTA 12055, is designed and distributed only in North America, and has, according to the company, the largest lifting capacity in the construction telehandler range. With a maximum lifting capacity of 12,000 lbs., the new model offers a lifting height of 55’ 5” and can take 5,500 lbs. to full extension.

The MTA 12055 is perfectly suited for the requirements of specific construction sites, such as infrastructure, bridge, and construction projects. With a turning radius of only 12’ 2”, it maneuvers on very tight work sites. Equipped with a 120 hp engine and powershift transmission, the MTA 12055 telehandler has a maximum travel speed of 22.8 mph.

Also, recently introduced in the United States, the range of platforms dedicated to the North American market has expanded, with Manitou releasing four telescopic platforms ranging from 60 to 85 ft. Two of these models, the TJ 85, and the all-new vertical mast electric platform, VJR 26, were on display at ConExpo.

Manufactured in France, these platforms are versatile and powerful. The TJ 85 has a platform height of 85 ft. for a lifting capacity of 770 lbs. or three people with equipment. It also has a remote control, which gives the ability to fold the jib under the telescopic arm to reduce the length of the machine when loading onto a truck. This means that transportation is optimized and the driver can carry out this operation safely.

The working height of 85 ft. and horizontal outreach of over 70 ft. ensure that it meets the requirements of many sites (ports, industrial maintenance, construction, etc.). The TJ 85 sets itself apart thanks to a telescopic jib, which makes it possible to reach working areas that are inaccessible with a conventional machine. Another feature of the Manitou rough-terrain platform is the on-board diagnostics screen, so technicians do not need to carry a tablet to resolve potential problems. Downtime and total cost of ownership are therefore reduced.

The VJR 26 is the ideal machine for interior applications at medium height. Thanks to its working height of 26 ft., this new platform facilitates maintenance operations, including fitting electrical conduits, plumbing, and other tasks related to industrial finishing. Its compact size enables it to access narrow spaces for a smooth ride. Easy to operate because of its compact size and intuitive controls, the VJR 26 gives the operator a high level of safety with unobstructed visibility due to the compactness of the telescopic mast. There are fork pockets on each side of the turret to safeguard loading operations onto trucks and reduce the time taken.

Also at ConExpo were nine forklift models, which will be marketed during 2020 and equipped with a new engine compliant with the Tier IV standard, including the new MC 30. The compact and versatile rough-terrain MC 30 is the ideal companion on worksites and is particularly popular with rental companies. The total cost of ownership is reduced with this new model, with preventive maintenance down by 22% compared with previous versions.

A new mast is also available on the whole range of rough-terrain forklifts. Thanks to a new mast profile design, visibility is improved by 35% (up to 45% depending on the model), significantly improving safety for the operator and the surrounding area.

DEUTZ and Manitou Group – a world leading OEM in rough-terrain handling equipment – are together embarking upon the electrification of the drive line. DEUTZ has incorporated prototype electric drives into Manitou equipment for the first time. The keys for the first prototypes will be handed over as part of the ELECTRIP Event Week in Cologne. Manitou Group, the first E-DEUTZ partner, has fitted one of its telehandlers with a hybrid drive and a second with a full-electric drive.

DEUTZ provides a modular product portfolio for electric drives, allowing customers to choose the combination of combustion engine, electric motor, battery and power electronics best suited to their needs. A purely electric drive system is also available on request. The aim is to achieve a significant increase in efficiency which will reduce overall running costs, fuel consumption and emissions in equal measure.

The full-electric Manitou MT 1135 telehandler is equipped with a 360-volt vehicle power supply and a 60 kW electric motor. The battery, with a generous 30 kWh capacity, ensures that the required level of energy is delivered. The MT 1335 generally comes with a 75 kW DEUTZ TCD 3.6 diesel engine. For the hybrid prototype, this diesel engine has been replaced by a DEUTZ TCD 2.2, which generates 55 kW, plus a 20 kW electric motor. The electric system is provided with a 48-volt system voltage.

Michel Denis, President and CEO of Manitou Group explains: “It is the first full electric construction telehandler prototype that we realize thanks to DEUTZ, and we are proud to work in this explorative phase with a confident supplier. The integration of electric drives into our telehandlers is very encouraging for the future. DEUTZ has rapidly assumed a pioneering role in the field of electrification; it has the necessary expertise and knows our applications’ special requirements. This telehandler enables Manitou to enhance our existing hybrid and electric ranges. Innovation is really a part of Manitou Group’s DNA, and electrification allows us to match our CSR approach and our customers’ expectations.” Dr Frank Hiller, Chairman of the DEUTZ AG Board of Management, added: “We initiated our E-DEUTZ strategy last autumn. So, we are now very proud to be carrying out the next step of electrification with Manitou Group. These joint studies reinforce our belief that we can provide the market with the right solutions and to positioning ourselves as the market leader for innovative drive systems.”
