CLAAS of America announces the launch of two machines designed specifically for farm business operators who are looking for superior performance and excellent return on investment. The all-new TRION 740 combine, a Class 7 machine, was designed with an eye toward corn and soybean producers and is a competitive offering for small to mid-sized farming operations. The updated AXION 900 TERRA TRAC (TT) tractor adds a half-track design with marked advantages in comfort, efficiency and traction in many farming applications.

“Innovative, efficient, reliable and bold are a few words I would use to describe the TRION 740 and AXION 900 TT. By listening to the needs of our customers and bringing our brightest thinking into research and development, CLAAS is providing customers with two truly innovative products that will take their farming operation to new levels of productivity.”

says Eric Raby, Senior Vice President, Americas, for CLAAS.

These products are the result of years of relentless development focused on improving efficiency, increasing productivity, and exceeding farmer expectations. The TRION is designed for corn and soybean farmers who are looking for a reliable machine in the right-sized and right-priced package that still offers high performance. The AXION 900 TT maintains the great qualities of the standard-wheeled AXION tractor, but delivers the added benefits tracks provide, such as better flotation, less compaction, added traction and superior comfort.

TRION 740 Combine Delivers Power and Reliability in an Affordable Package

For nearly 25 years, CLAAS combines have set the standard for throughput and efficiency on farms across North America. That legacy continues with the addition of the TRION 740 to the CLAAS product portfolio. The TRION is newly designed to provide small to mid-sized operators a competitive edge.

The TRION is a combination of proven components that one would expect from CLAAS, along with new innovations to maximize today’s harvesting conditions.

The Class 7 combine market segment has long been in need of new innovation. The CLAAS TRION 740 was designed from the ground up to address the needs of 1000- to 3000-acre farms, a segment of farms making up over 30% of all combines sold in North America. The company’s latest combine design re-energizes this segment by delivering CLAAS innovation in an unparalleled crop flow design on an affordable and reliable chassis.

says Greg Frenzel, CLAAS Product Manager – Combines.

Machine reliability is a high priority. The CLAAS TRION offers long greasing intervals and extended wear parts across 60% of the crop flow to minimize downtime. It has been proven in five years of field tests across three different continents. With affordability in mind, the CLAAS TRION also offers active slope compensation and minimal fuel consumption to keep more dollars in farmers’ pockets.

In a combine, threshing and separation are key. With the CLAAS TRION, threshing adjustments are made in-line with the changing harvest conditions throughout the day. A tri-cylinder APS threshing unit gently guides a 56-inch-wide crop mat across concave grates into a single rotor, ensuring that more grain makes it to the tank. Only CLAAS brings individually controlled cylinder threshing and rotor separation together in one machine.

With the CLAAS TRION, farmers are equipped with a 402 horsepower Cummins engine, providing high torque at low RPM’s. This power level easily handles 12-row chopping corn heads or draper headers up to 40 feet wide. Pairing the 341-bushel grain tank and 3.8 bushel per second unloading rate simplifies grain handling in the field. A top road speed of 19 miles per hour means the CLAAS TRION is prompt between fields. Changing to harvest soybeans rather than corn takes less than five minutes, keeping idle time in the middle of the day to a minimum.

AXION 900 TT Further Enhances Productivity and Efficiency

AXION 900 TT

Better flotation, traction, operator comfort and soil protection are just a few of the advantages farmers get with the CLAAS AXION 900 TT – the world’s first fully-suspended half-track tractor. With its debut, the machine makes farming more efficient and productive in wet, dry or heavy soils.

“We look to our customers to continuously evolve our approach to the design and innovation of new products. Through extensive testing and discovering numerous advantages with this product compared to other manufacturers, this is technology we’re thrilled to bring to market.”

says Drew Fletcher, CLAAS Product Manager – Tractors.

The TERRA TRAC design is based on the technology currently used in other CLAAS machines. Using a front-wheel, rear-track design with independent suspension, the CLAAS AXION 900 TT provides advantages such as 25% less ground pressure, 15% greater traction and reduced soil disturbance. Between the standard four-point cab suspension and fully-suspended tracks, the ride of this tractor is also exceptional.

Like all CLAAS AXION models, the AXION 900 TT is equipped with an 8.7 L FPT engine and maintains a low-speed, high-torque concept at 1,400 RPM for significant engine efficiency. The machine also has a continuously variable CMATIC transmission that offers industry-leading fuel savings in a variety of agricultural applications. From the operator’s perspective, brake-assisted steering for seamless turns and drawbar height adjustment for easy implement hook-ups make for even more added convenience.

The CLAAS AXION 960 and 930 models, with 440 and 350 horsepower respectively, are available to order with the TERRA TRAC options. They are currently available with 25-, 29- or 35-inch belts. 18-inch belts on 88- and 120-inch centers will be available in 2023.

With its expertise in digitalization, Pottinger offers numerous ways to make everyday work easier, more efficient, and convenient. A farmer from the region of Lower Austria reports on his experiences:

Gerhard Forster is a Pottinger customer who runs a successful organic farming business with 95 hectares of arable land. Their main focus is on the production of threshed crops such as spelled, emmer, and einkorn wheat as well as lentils. They also grow pumpkins to make seed oil. An AEROSEM 4002 ADD pneumatic seed drill with a SEED COMPLETE package in combination with a LION 403 power harrow has been in operation on the farm since early 2020.

Convenience and efficiency for soil and seed

In addition to the electric metering drive, the heart of the system is the CCI 1200 terminal with a SEED COMPLETE package. The SEED COMPLETE package contains intelligent smart farming solutions, including a communication unit. This enables the use of VARIABLE RATE CONTROL (the seed rate is precisely adjusted to site-specific soil conditions using application maps previously created on the PC) and SECTION CONTROL (the metering system switches on and off automatically at the headland). The system can also exchange data and communicate with the agrirouter data exchange platform and NEXT FARMING field indexing software. Using cloud-based platforms, all machine data generated during sowing can be precisely recorded and viewed later for evaluation and documentation purposes.

A highly satisfied customer

“The CCI 1200 opens up a lot of opportunities. All my ISOBUS machines can be operated using one control terminal. By communicating with agrirouter, the machine data from all of my machines – regardless of manufacturer – can be transmitted to NEXT Machine Management and NEXT FARMING. I can immediately find all the data I need for documenting my operations. Information on fertilizer and sowing rates is always available and can be traced seamlessly, even over a period of years,”

says Gerhard Forster about his positive experience with this system.

Documentation is easy to create and save intuitively. Jobs are created at the control terminal before work begins and then processed directly. As soon as the job is finished, the collated data is transferred to NEXT Machine Management using the mobile data network. This is done by setting up a WLAN hotspot on a smartphone.

Perfect drilling even in difficult conditions

The seed drill technology delivered an impressive performance even in difficult operating conditions in autumn 2020.

“The DUAL DISC colters on the AEROSEM did a great job. Despite the difficult conditions, all our autumn sowing jobs were completed by the end of November. This year I had the opportunity to do some contract work with the seed drill because it works so well in our region, even in the most adverse conditions,”

explains Forster.

The customer was also very satisfied with the SECTION CONTROL system. The IDS distributor head in conjunction with the automatic switching system allows the working width to be adjusted by the meter, which makes a serious saving on resources.

Future-safe technology

Forster has already invested in the future with the AEROSEM 4002 and SEED COMPLETE.

“There are still many advantages open to me in terms of data management and machine control,”

says Forster.

In order to increase output even further, he intends to manage his whole farm on a site-specific basis in the future. He has already laid the foundation stone with the latest Pottinger seed drill technology.

ASV Holdings Inc. introduces the ELITE line of high-performance, heavy-duty lubricants.

The new engine oil, hydraulic oil and grease products are extensively tested for use in optimizing ASV equipment and allow operators to do more work in more places.

“ASV is committed to offering the highest-performing machinery,”

said Buck Storlie, ASV Holdings Inc. product line manager.

“Now, our customers have access to a line of lubricants designed to amplify the performance of their machines. We didn’t settle for anything less than the best.”

Not only does the ELITE line meet ASV’s rigorous performance standards, it also meets or exceeds most other industry service classifications. The products help to reduce fuel consumption, improve efficiency and optimize performance in ASV machines. The ELITE line includes four premium products: ASV ELITE 5W-40 Heavy Duty Full Synthetic Engine Oil; ASV ELITE 10W-30 Heavy Duty Engine Oil; ASV ELITE Zinc Free 46 Multi-Viscosity Hydraulic Oil; and ASV ELITE Green Grease NLGI 2.

The ELITE line is Tier 4 Final approved. The products suit all conditions: heat, cold and maximum load and performance. The hydraulic and engine lubricants match the extreme capabilities of ASV machines. It holds up to extremely high and low ambient temperatures all year long in the challenging conditions ASV machines are designed for.

ASV’s ELITE line of lubricants is available in grease tubes, gallon jugs, pails and drums exclusively through the ASV dealer network.

The construction of the C-43 water reservoir is part of the giant hydrological restoration project taking place in the Everglades. Dozens of Volvo CE machines are on site building the reservoir, set to be ready in 2023.

Since 1882, the Everglades have been drained for farming and it is now half the size it was a century ago. But that’s changing. One of largest ecosystem restoration projects in the U.S. in currently underway. The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan began 20 years ago and is a giant hydrological restoration project consisting of, among other things, the build of a new basin storage reservoir in the Caloosahatchee estuary, called the C-43 water reservoir project. When complete the reservoir, which is spread over 40km2, will hold excess water from a nearby lake, where it will be treated and then released during the dry season. In total the dam will be able to hold 200 billion liters of water.

Up to the challenge

Working on a construction project virtually the size of Manhattan comes with its share of dilemmas. And the hundreds of canals that have to be navigated during both rainy and dry seasons, pose even more challenges. Massimo Bugliosi, Project Director with Lane Construction-Salini Impregilo, is the one in charge of solving these issues. He says preparation is essential and relies on the dependable performance of Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) machines.

Volvo CE machines are versatile and up to the toughest of challenges.
“The key is planning and properly sequencing activities in the right way, and the equipment must be versatile – Volvo machine are up to the challenge.”

he added.

Courtesy of Volvoce.com

Currently, there are 42 machines from Volvo CE working on the C-43 water reservoir project. This includes a mix of A45 articulated haulers, and EC750E 75-ton excavators– with more on the way.

“We chose to use Volvo equipment, because it is versatile and can handle the mixes of different kinds of soil,” explains Massimo Bugliosi.

Another challenge is something that no-one can rule over. The weather in South Florida can be rough and unpredictable – not to mention hurricanes coming to visit annually. But this is no surprise to the guys at Lane Construction-Salini Impregilo, who are well aware of the necessary precautions.

A tangible difference

The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan will boost the quality of life for humans and wildlife alike. The Everglades is home to more that 350 species of birds, 50 unique reptiles – and that’s not all. Every year more than one million visitors, from around the world, flock to the Everglades, helping to drive a rich economy in tourism and recreation. This natural reservoir also provides drinking water for southern Florida’s local population – of 8 million. This ecosystem restoration venture is a huge step towards creating a sustainable future where human expansion no longer poses a threat.

“To have the opportunity to serve as an essential supplier on a project of substantial environmental impact; is something we all strive for. Knowing that Volvo CE and our local dealer Alta Equipment is working to preserve the Everglades water estuaries and wildlife ecosystems for generations to come is by far the most rewarding work we could be a part of. ”

says Stephanie McCall, Vice President Key Accounts, Region North America.

Air suspension is widely used on commercial vehicles, but on tractors it has been a unique Valtra feature for the last 25 years. An air-suspended front axle offers a faster response and better shock absorption level particularly in fast axle movements and when the axle load is changing rapidly like in front loader use. This makes operator comfort and traction superior over hydro-pneumatic solutions.

The AIRES suspension on the N Series is similar to the well-proven and widely appreciated construction on the Valtra T Series. It features a separate, self-levelling pneumatic suspension with one air bellow as well as two robust shock absorbers. The suspension system uses compressed air which is sure to work also in cold temperatures. As an added benefit the tractor’s pneumatic system also allows for the usage of compressed air for other purposes such as trailer braking, cleaning dust off radiators or other daily maintenance tasks.

The advantages of a pneumatic front axle suspension are becoming clearer as the total weight of tractors is increasing with large front implements and front loaders. Increased tractor speeds and the use of pneumatic brakes to meet increased safety standards of the EU Mother Regulation also support this solution. The new front-axle suspension will become available on stage V compliant versions of the N Series in spring (N174 models) and in autumn 2019 (N134 and N154 models). The current, second generation hydro-pneumatic suspension option will continue to be available on smaller models of the N Series.

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has concluded a deal to supply 10 new machines to Global Container Terminals (GCT) in Canada. The order, which comprises three heavy-duty loaded container handlers, four empty container handlers, and three reachstackers, was booked in Cargotec’s 2018 first quarter order intake with delivery scheduled to take place during Q3 and Q4 of 2018.

Established over 100 years ago and a leading player in the terminal industry, GCT operates four state-of-the art terminals on the east and west coasts of North America, providing customers with easy access to major international trade routes. The new Kalmar equipment represents an important part of the company’s fleet renewal programme, which will support growth at GCT Deltaport and GCT Vanterm, both located in the Port of Vancouver. GCT Canada already operates Kalmar empty container handlers and top loaders at its terminals.

Kalmar empty container handlers deliver market-leading strength and stability to ensure precise yet straightforward positioning of containers, featuring a robust yet flexible design that includes side spreaders for twist-lock handling (single stacking) or hook handling (double stacking). Kalmar heavy-duty DCF-series loaded container handlers have a lifting capacity of 41 tons and are able to stack 9’6″ containers up to five high. In order to maximize productivity and safety, these machines provide the operator with full visibility and control over every single step in the handling process.

The Kalmar Generation G reachstacker is designed to bring out the best in every operator, with a panoramic view, intuitive interfaces, proactive monitoring and a comfortable seat designed for long shifts and demanding operations.

All the new machines supplied to GCT Canada will feature Volvo engines that comply with the latest latest emissions requirements, in line with the company’s Global Commitment to ensure sustainable operations at all its terminals.

Dale Shimell, Director, Maintenance & Engineering, GCT Canada: “Sustainability is one of our core values, and it is embedded in the way in which we do business. Our operations continue to innovate through densifying on our existing footprints, improving our energy efficiency, and decreasing overall emissions through such fleet renewals. We chose Kalmar equipment based on lower fuel consumption and emissions, build quality and reliability, the improved comfort that the ergonomic operator cabins provide, as well as their strong local customer support. For these reasons, Kalmar was the natural choice when it came to choosing equipment to renew our existing fleets.”

MasonLift is Kalmar’s dealer, whose partnership with GCT Canada goes back 25 years, supplying Ottawa Terminal Tractors.

Jeff Larsen, Vice President & General Manager at Masonlift Ltd: “We were excited to expand our partnership with GCT Canada on the supply of Kalmar container handlers. Our cooperation started in 2015, shortly after MasonLift was appointed the Kalmar container handler product line for British Columbia. The first order of container handlers was delivered in 2016. For that delivery in a short time, the companies collaborated to identify product improvements that would benefit the customer’s particular operating environment. These recommendations were then brought to Kalmar who immediately recognised their benefits, and quickly made them happen. These improvements are a result of a three-way partnership, a customer that is willing to work with the local dealer, and a manufacturer that supports their dealers and customers.”

Vincent Hruska, Sales Manager, Kalmar USA: “The latest order from GCT Canada has now strengthened our partnership with them and underlines the faith they have in our mobile equipment solutions. We are proud to be able to say that Kalmar equipment will form the backbone of their fleet renewal program.”
