Did you know that hemp can be used as a sustainable alternative to textiles, wood and even concrete? That it was once so valued as a commodity it was accepted as payment for taxes in the state of Pennsylvania in the USA? Learn more about this versatile crop and how CNH Industrial is supporting its gradual re-emergence in North America from this latest episode in the Behind the Wheel series at cnhindustrial.com/hempindustry

The video was shot on location at the New Holland Agriculture facility in New Holland, Pennsylvania, USA. The opening panoramic scenes show the 15 acres of industrial hemp, which was planted at the brand’s on-site test farm for educational and analytical purposes. This test plot was used to provide valuable crop and soil data as well as a unique opportunity to study the crop cycle from planting to harvesting, which is the focus of this webisode.

New Holland Agriculture has been working with partners, the National Hemp Association and Penn State University, in a bid to raise awareness and educate producers about the benefits of this crop and its exciting potential for economic sustainability. The aerial footage of the hemp plantation gives an idea of the scale of this project and shows how New Holland products can be used throughout the entire cropping cycle. This is further testament to New Holland’s commitment to helping accelerate the return of hemp crops on farms across North America.

Through a series of interviews with experts from the National Hemp Association, Penn State University, and the New Holland brand itself, the video highlights some of the benefits, challenges, and opportunities associated with the campaign to turn this crop into a valuable commodity once more. CNH Industrial’s support of the evolving hemp industry is another demonstration of the Company’s commitment to promoting more sustainable agricultural practices.

Key features and benefits of PioneerLine include:

Multiple flow options that enable growers to precisely match irrigation and fertigation to the plant’s needs, thus increasing plant vigor, quality, and yield.

Every plant receives a consistent and the same amount of water and nutrients due to precisely produced injection molded drippers. Precision delivery of water and nutrients results in stand consistency and higher yields.

Tough seamless extrusion of the dripperline provides maximum protection against installation-related damages.

Low filtration requirement ensures the highest level of plugging resistance during the growing season.

“We created PioneerLine due to hemp grower feedback indicating the need for an irrigation solution that provides precision control, reliability, and supply chain sustainability. As a pioneer of drip irrigation, we understand the challenges of pioneering a new crop.”

said Chuck Bates, Market Segment Leader of Netafim USA.

The release of PioneerLine PC and PioneerLine X follows the recent announcement that Netafim Financial Solutions is now opening their industry leading financing program to hemp growers. This program is the industry’s only end-to-end financing solution for complete drip irrigation systems (including design, materials, installation, and labor costs).

The Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show features several education sessions with a focus on ag topics affecting the Texas Panhandle. New programming at this year’s show will highlight cotton and hemp.

IDEAg Group, producers of the Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show, is working with the North Texas Hemp Cooperative, Texas Hemp Growers Association and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to provide a forum for farmers and farm managers to learn more about hemp and ask questions of a panel of expert speakers gathered for sessions. The morning session will cover topics that help attendees determine if hemp is right for their business; the afternoon session will provide answers to questions from industry leaders as well as give a full understanding of risk and reward from a neutral position.

“There is a lot of interest, enthusiasm and curiosity around hemp in Texas,” said Richard Forrester, director of the North Texas Hemp Cooperative. “We look forward to answering the hard questions farmers have about placing hemp in their crop rotation.”

“We are pleased to work with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show to bring this information to panhandle growers,” said Delmon Ellison, board president, THGA. “Our mission for this learning session is to provide growers with unbiased information that will enable them to make the best decisions for their operations.”

Courtesy of ideaggroup.com

Also new at the show this year is COTTON U presented by High Plains Journal and IDEAg Group. This free, half-day event features industry experts and farmer panelists focused on topics such as managing cotton in a short-season environment, irrigation and sustainability.

The Texas Wheat Symposium and Ag Appreciation Luncheon takes place on Dec. 4 and features farm policy and wheat market outlooks as well as a keynote address from Ray Starling, former chief of staff to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

As always, the halls of the Amarillo Civic Center will be lined with more than 400 exhibitors showcasing products, services and technology for the ag industry. Companies represented range across categories such as harvesting equipment, cattle and other livestock handling equipment, irrigation, and parts and maintenance services.
