Storing according to tuber size

In order to grade different sizes of potatoes and onions during storage and processing, web graders are used. Optionally, the new web grader, type WG 900, can be permanently integrated into the receiving hoppers RH 12 Combi, RH 20 Combi, and RH 24 Combi. This new combination of two coordinated machines makes it possible to combine crop intake, soil cleaning, picking, sorting, and dividing the crop into two different sizes with just one machine. And all of this happens with an optimal, straight-aligned crop flow.

Merging conveyor belt for all impurities and trash.

For an improved, flexible use of the receiving hoppers RH 20 and
RH 24, the PU-rollers of the pre-grading unit can be used in heavy, sticky soil conditions not only for tuber grading, but also for cleaning off adhering soil. An optionally integrated merging conveyor transfers the trash, which is separated by the rollers of the grading unit, onto the soil cross conveyor.

The advantage is that merged amounts of trash are discharged all at once onto a single downstream following conveyor. If the pre-grading unit is only to be used for pre-grading (fractioning), then the pre-grading cross conveyor can simply be pushed back over the collecting conveyor belt. The collecting conveyor belt is mounted within the width of the machine and is better protected against collisions during maneuvering.

Working lights

Six LED working lights are optionally available for the receiving hoppers type RH 20 and RH 24 to illuminate the machine and its surrounding. The working lights can be individually aligned or repositioned.

Protective casing for the operator terminal

For dust-free and waterproof storage of the operator terminal and other operating devices, such as a remote control for the store loader, all Grimme receiving hoppers can now be equipped with a protective casing.

New cost-effective single-row switch on/off

Grimme uses a new single-row control system as the basis for Section Control on the cup planters type GL 420 and GL 430. This new development is a cost-effective alternative to the common hydraulic single row drive.

The common drive for four planting elements is provided by only one hydraulic motor, driving a continuous shaft. Electromagnetic clutches are now mounted for each individual planting element. The planting elements can be switched on and off quickly and conveniently from the operator terminal. As an option, the planting elements can be automatically switched on and off by using Section Control, depending on the GPS position.

Protection against soil erosion with Grimme belt planters

For the 2021 season, the GRIMME GB 430, a four-row potato belt planter can be optionally equipped with the dyking system called TerraProtect PRO (patent pending) for erosion control in potato cultivation.

The system TerraProtect consists of a loosening tine with integrated stone protection and a subsequent small dyking device. The loosening tine loosens the underground and increases the capacity of water absorption of the soil. The dyking-share, adapted to the contour of the ridges, generates traverse-dams (so-called dykes) for water storage. Thus preventing valuable soil from being washed out during heavy rainfall. This protects the productive soil and ensures an even water supply for the crop.

The TerraProtect PRO works together with intelligent control for comfortable operation from the tractor’s cab. The maximum protection against soil erosion is achieved by an even spacing of the dykes, so an equal amount of water can be stored everywhere. This is made possible by an automatic control system that adapts the frequency of dyking to variable driving speeds. The TerraProtect PRO offers convenient single ridge switching for each dyker and an integrated spraying track switch-off for increased comfort.

Operator-friendly coupling of planter and tractor

For easy and convenient coupling resp. uncoupling of the machine, all available drawbars for the trailed GL 430 cup-platers are now equipped with a hydraulic jack to stand as standard. At the same time, the GL 430 receives a new hose cabinet for the hydraulic and air connections. Furthermore, the hose routing has been optimized for simplified connection with the tractor.

Grimme UK has appointed Hamblys as a new premium partner to support growers from its five depots in Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall.

The appointment means Grimme UK can consolidate from three separate dealerships to just one covering the southwest, which the company reckons, increases the dealer’s ability to invest in the brand and its customers.

“We would like to reassure customers that Grimme will work hard to make this transition as smooth as possible. Parts and service will continue to be readily available in the coming weeks, as would usually be expected by our customer base.”

says managing director Patrick Graf Grote of Grimme UK.

Hamblys managing director Steve Barrett says the Grimme franchise expands the company’s range of premium brands, which includes Claas, Lemken, and Horsch.

“Our sales, service, and parts teams will be getting up to speed rapidly to ensure our customer service and support remains second to none,”

he says.

Established in 1892, Hamblys is a family-owned business. Its five depots are located at Launceston (head office) and Redruth in Cornwall, Bishops Lydeard in Somerset, and Honiton and Torrington in Devon.

For more than 20 years Grimme has been offering powerful and crop-protecting technology for storing potatoes, carrots, onions and other vegetables and has set the standard with electro-hydraulic drives. For the 2020 season, the RH-receiving hoppers series has been extensively revised and equipped with new practical features.

Perfectly prepared for all transport vehicles

A good seal between the transport vehicle and the receiving hopper minimizes the loss of harvested crop and improves the cleanliness and hygiene of the entire storage process. Since transport vehicles have different contours in practice, the sealing rubber intake flaps must be particularly flexible and quickly adaptable. Grimme has therefore completely revised the design and function of the receiving area to further improve the quick and safe “docking” of the transport vehicles.

The lower support strip, which enables easy rearward manoeuvring to the hopper, especially for transport vehicles with a deep underride guard, is able to move to the rear for improved material protection. Three rubber lips are fitted to the lateral bunker walls, each of them subdivided into three parts. In this way the rubber lips adapt to any vehicle contour. The rubber intake flaps are now ball-bearing mounted. They are height-adjustable without tools, so that it can be quickly and easily adapted to the different heights of transport vehicles. Losses while filling the receiving hopper can now be prevented even more effectively.

VarioFlow: High throughput and crop protection

The transition from the grading or cleaning rollers onto the cross conveyor is often the limiting factor of a receiving hopper, as the crop can only be fed onto the cross conveyor on one side. With the new VarioFlow, Grimme offers an optional available transfer device consisting of two PU spiral rollers with mechanically adjustable height. With this transfer device, more crop can be transferred more evenly to the crop cross conveyor, which significantly increases the conveying capacity. The transfer height of the two PU spiral rollers onto the cross conveyor can be infinitely adjusted by means of one spindle each on the left and right side of the machine. This adjustment enables the two PU spiral rollers to mesh together when adjusting between different discharge heights, ultimately this leads to increased crop protection. By having a minimum transfer height to the discharging cross conveyor on one side, maximum crop protection is achieved. On the lower side of the conveyor the passage is increased as the rollers are lifted out of the crop flow. At the same time the transfer height remains minimal because the crop is transferred onto other crop on the downstream-side of the conveyor. The result is a significant increase in throughput capacity, while maintaining a high level of crop protection.

Simplified maintenance for the hopper floor drive chain

The new lubricator offers a practical solution for oiling the hopper chain and therefore increases the durability to a maximum. Maintenance and care of the machine is considerably simplified for the operator, as manual lubrication of the hopper floor chain is no longer necessary.

Windrowers are commonly used in a two-phase harvesting process on storable and robust onions. The new windrower for vegetables will be available for the next harvest season with working widths of 1.40 m, 1.65 m and 1.80 m.

Crop quality starts with the intake of the crop. The new WV-series is equipped with intake paddles that are particularly gentle to the crop. Paddles are available either as rubber or brush versions. Both versions are extremely flexible and can move upwards to reduce the pressure on the crop when crop flow increases. Due to the shifted arrangement of the intake paddles, the crop is transferred reliably and gently onto the first main web. Another positive aspect is that the intake paddles prevent the crop from rolling back when the machine is lifted. This is to ensure that as much marketable crop as possible is placed in a swath on the surface of the ground.

For sufficient and gentle sieving, even in difficult harvesting conditions, the first and second main web can be equipped with either a mechanical or hydraulically driven agitating device.

The unique Boogie-System provides an even and firm surface on the ground so that the harvested crop cannot sink in. This allows the crop to dry better, making it storable and robust. This also helps to minimize the amount of soil that has to be taken into the machine in the second phase of the harvest process.

The spring-loaded Boogie-System consists of two support wheels and a bed roller. The suspension ensures a constant pressure on the bed roller so that a “bulldozing effect” of soil in front of the bed roller is prevented.

New cabin

For a quiet and comfortable workplace, a new premium comfort cabin with optimized noise insulation is now optionally available. An additional increase in comfort is achieved by the new premium driver’s seat. The leather seat with an extra high back, active ventilation, seat heating and air suspension with adjustable shock absorption offer the driver a relaxed workplace. The leather seat cover allows removing any dirt easily and quickly. Other features including a large cooling box and a radio with a hands-free kit are also part of the new cab’s equipment. Windshield wipers and sunblinds on all windows ensure a pleasant view in rain and sunshine.

Fully automatic speed adjustments

Two assistance systems based on “GRIMME-Speedtronic” ensure that the harvester can always be driven in the optimum range between performance and crop protection. “Speedtronic-Web” increases throughput by an automatic adjustment of the main web speed in relation to working speed and thus improves crop protection. To avoid any blockages in the ring elevator, its conveying speed is temporarily increased by “Speedtronic-Elevator” in the case that the pressure of the hydraulic system exceeds a defined target value. The driver is relieved from manual monitoring and control jobs and can therefore fully concentrate on the entire harvesting process.

Automatic bunker chain lubrication

A bunker chain greasing system is standard from 2020 on. The greasing system ensures longer durability of the bunker chain and increases the comfort for the user as manual greasing becomes void.

More power

Both versions of the VARITRON 470 are equipped with a modern, strong 6-cylinder diesel engine of Mercedes-Benz with 10.7-litre cubic capacity and 460 hp / 340 kW instead of 435 hp / 320 kW, including exhaust emission stage V.

Connection to myGRIMME

As standard, all GRIMME self-propelled harvesters are equipped with a telemetry unit that enables a connection to the customer portal myGRIMME. In combination with the software-module “myJobs”, the system is able to differentiate automatically between road- and field-mode and thus can independently generate tasks. Manually inputting data is no longer necessary. This saves valuable working time and minimizes potential errors. After completing a job the user receives a detailed overview including all important process parameters, such as fuel consumption, time per working state and weather conditions for example. Additionally, the lanes are marked in colors according to the work status. The data generated in this way provides the farmer with an optimum basis for billing jobs and for possible optimization of work steps.

If the user uses a certified agricultural software, farm management information system (FMIS), it is possible to connect this software via the data exchange platform agrirouter with myGRIMME. On request, you can then send machine and GPS data from the machine to the FMIS.

For all self-propelled GRIMME harvesters, there are individual agreed service packages available which include the full service inclusive of wearing parts in the highest stage PROTECT.
