The program will help farmers rebuild and recover from the impact of December 2021 tornados.

The AGCO Agriculture Foundation (AAF), a private foundation with the vision to prevent and relieve hunger through sustainable agricultural development, today announced a $50,000 donation to the Kentucky Agriculture Disaster Relief Program, a joint effort of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation, and the Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD). The program seeks to bridge gaps in insurance coverage and other relief efforts for farming operations affected by the December 2021 storms in Western Kentucky.

Storms in late December 2021 caused significant damage to Western Kentucky communities and farms, including Mayfield, where AGCO dealership AgRevolution is located. The AAF and AGCO Corporation identified the Kentucky Agriculture Disaster Relief Program as an outreach effort that aligns with AAF’s farmer-focused community development initiative.

“AGCO and AAF are grateful for the opportunity to support Kentucky Farm Bureau’s relief program, which will provide vital assistance to farmers as they rebuild and recover in the months ahead,”

said Metti Richenhagen, director of the AGCO Agriculture Foundation.

The Kentucky Agriculture Disaster Relief program leverages a network of local farming retailers to provide access to eligible farmers of up to $1,500 of supplies, such as fencing, tools, hay, and livestock feed. It is designed to bridge gaps in insurance coverage for these vital items in a way that is efficient and trouble-free to farmers.

To further extend the donation from AAF, AGCO employees will also be able to participate in the program’s continuing fundraising efforts.

“Following the tornado in Kentucky, many AGCO employees asked what they could do to offer their support to the individuals and communities in need. I’m pleased to offer them this opportunity to live our values and extend a helping hand to farmers and others who experienced this devastation,”

said Ivory Harris, AGCO SVP and chief human resources officer.

The AGCO Agriculture Foundation (AAF) announced a three-year partnership with Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) to increase student representation from underrepresented backgrounds and to promote the agriculture industry as an admirable and sound career choice.

Funded by the AAF, the project will provide scholarship opportunities for tailored internship roles and support for hiring talent from underrepresented groups. The focus areas will be agronomy, agribusiness, engineering, data science, software development, sustainability, field technicians, and related disciplines. The goal is to increase diversity and promote the agricultural industry as a viable career.

“AGCO Agriculture Foundation is committed to working to address the diversity gap in the U.S. agricultural industry. Our partnership with MANRRS enables a diverse group of young agricultural enthusiasts to gain knowledge, skills, and professional experience within high-demand areas of our industry,”

said Metti Richenhagen, Director, AGCO Agriculture Foundation.

The scholarship program will launch in late 2021, with internship commitments for the summer of 2022. In each of the next three years, the AAF will award 16 scholarships to selected minority students in the United States and, together with AGCO Corporation, will create a development and growth program for interns that will serve as a multi-year pathway to help minority students develop competencies and capabilities that align with post-collegiate career opportunities.

“Solving farmers’ most pressing challenges requires continuous innovation and diverse thinking. The AAF partnership with MANRRS enhances our ability to innovate for farmers by building a more diverse talent pipeline. We are thrilled to be able to offer these talented students development opportunities at AGCO,”

said Eric Haggard, Director, Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at AGCO Corporation.

The program will be advertised and available at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other minority-serving institutions. The scholarships will also include invitations for the 16 selected students to participate in the MANRRS 36th Annual Training Conference and Career Expo. Across the United States, MANRRS has a database of over 8,000 members and 55 university and college chapters in 39 states.

“MANRRS is excited about this new program. Our funding support and partnership with the AAF will help more exceptional talents within our network develop their leadership skills while contributing to the transformation of the agri-food industry. To develop state-of-the-art innovation and make strides towards zero hunger, the agricultural industry must be well-positioned to attract diverse talent like our MANRRS members,”

said Ebony Webber, Chief Officer of Operations, MANRRS National Office.

Ag equipment dealers, manufacturers, farmers to easily view ISOBUS compatible products across brands

The Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF) announced today it is introducing the updated AEF ISOBUS Database (DB) app to give agricultural equipment dealers, manufacturers, and end-users a convenient way to access its database, the only comprehensive repository of all ISOBUS compatible products in the world. Users may now easily drill down by brand, product, or ISOBUS functionality to confirm product compatibility while in the office or in the field, for free.

“With so many different manufacturers creating a wide scope of agricultural products around the world, when you start using different brands together, they are not always technologically compatible. However, when products all share the same ‘nerve system,’ more commonly known as the ‘ISOBUS,’ they communicate seamlessly. The AEF ISOBUS DB app identifies which products on the market are compatible and are ISOBUS-certified,”

said Andrew Olliver, Vice Chairman, AEF.

Through the AEF’s app, the agricultural equipment community may now look up a product’s ISOBUS compatibility, find information if a customer is having trouble in the field, research ISOBUS compatibility of new equipment and accessories, or identify ISOBUS functions. Information can be shared with others through the app using messaging tools such as WhatsApp or email.

Only products that are AEF ISOBUS certified are listed in the AEF ISOBUS Database. Currently, there are approximately 80 companies listing their certified ISOBUS products in the database, a number that keeps growing.

“This is an incredibly useful tool, especially for ag equipment dealers, when they have to advise their customers on their next ISOBUS equipment purchase. Dealers will find the app’s new module and option views essential,”

said Olliver.

In the app’s module view, users can view detailed information about ISOBUS products, such as the individual controllers to see exactly which functionality they support. This helps dealers make product recommendations, as well as diagnose service compatibility issues.

The options view provides the ability to view the compatibility of multiple product features.

Funds to help small farms in North America obtain animal welfare certifications and build local networks

The AGCO Agriculture Foundation announced its 2020 AAF Award goes to the Global Animal Partnership (G.A.P.) along with a $50,000 grant to help small-scale farmers in North America strengthen their animal welfare practices and earn certifications for their production processes.

G.A.P. is one of the largest animal welfare standards and labeling organizations in North America, and its multi-level standards impact the welfare of over 416 million farm animals on more than 3,900 farms, taking into consideration each animal’s health and productivity, natural living environment, and emotional well-being.

While many small-scale producers are actively adopting and implementing humane practices, logistical issues and costs can serve as a barrier to entering a certification program. To help farmers achieve the certifications necessary, the project will leverage G.A.P.’s existing model and program specifically designed for the small-scale producer.

“We are proud to present the 2020 AAF Award to G.A.P. and believe this project is a natural fit for AGCO and the AAF, as we are committed to ensuring animal well-being while producers meet the growing demand for protein around the world. G.A.P.’s expertise in animal welfare and food systems, strengthened by our alignment with AGCO’s sustainability commitments, will help farmers in North America enhance their animal welfare practices while improving their profitability,”

said Metti Richenhagen, Director, AGCO Agriculture Foundation.

The project will create a self-sustaining peer network for producers at G.A.P. project sites and a cost-effective audit model for small-scale production. The team will also initiate supplier-based support for animal welfare and production skills and create a supply chain that supports local communities.

“With G.A.P.’s extensive partner base and network, we are now poised to help small-scale producers overcome the barriers around animal welfare. The pandemic has highlighted the interest and demand for local or regional food systems that small-scale producers could engage in. Through this partnership, we want to expand our commitment to continuously improve and drive meaningful change in animal welfare for farm animals,”

said Anne Malleau, Executive Director of G.A.P.

The AGCO Agriculture Foundation announced the second phase of a $125,000 USD project partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society to respond to climate change and food insecurity in Dadaab Refugee Complex.

The project began this month, with the goal of restoring degraded land, strengthening refugees’ food security and income levels, and increasing the production of diverse, nutritious foods.

The Dadaab Refugee Complex falls within the expansive arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) of Kenya, characterized by hot, dry weather and high rates of evapotranspiration interspersed with occasional flooding in poorly drained areas. Dramatic changes in weather patterns have caused prolonged drought and extreme rainfall, placing 209,584 refugees and 200,000 host community members living near the border of Kenya and Somalia in dire need of food and financial support.

Funded by the AAF, the first phase of the project focused on meeting the agricultural and nutritional demands of refugees and host communities through the establishment of a mechanized farm for pivot irrigation and crop production.

“Climate change is a serious threat to the livelihood and food security of many marginalized farming communities. The impact reported from the initial phase of our project in Dadaab Refugee Complex has propelled us to expand the project deliverables and continue this strategic partnership with the KRCS. This project demonstrates our commitment to address climate change and help farmers in the Dadaab camp and host community improve their soil health and build resilient food systems,”

said Metti Richenhagen, Director, AGCO Agriculture Foundation.

The second phase of the project will support 6,000 beneficiaries in the Ifo 2 refugee camp and the host community. The goal is to promote climate-smart agriculture and soil fertility management practices, strengthen farmers’ skills in modern irrigation and mechanized agriculture, and create employment opportunities for vulnerable communities.

The KRCS will help farmers establish and manage their farms as well as connect them with local markets. The vegetable crops, lentils, and leguminous grass that will be grown during this project phase will support the livelihoods of local farmers and their families.

The project is also supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which maintains the water infrastructure serving the pivot farm and provides logistical support. The Kenya County Government of Garissa donated the parcel of land for the project and helps identify vulnerable community members who can benefit the most from the program.

“The AAF’s strong partnership and funding have enabled us to advance our work towards climate change adaptation and food security for the Dadaab refugees and host community. This second phase of this project is the right next step to ensuring access to nutrition and improving the livelihoods of refugees and their host community,”

said Dr. Asha Mohammed, Secretary-General, Kenya Red Cross Society.

Lyle Orwig, the founder of Charleston|Orwig, now rebranded as C.O.nxt, has generously fully funded the Agricultural Relations Council/C.O.nxt Scholarship Program with a recent contribution of $75,000. It is part of an endowment established within the ARC Foundation a couple of years ago.

A long-time champion of agricultural public relations/public affairs, Orwig is a founding inductee of the Agricultural Public Relations Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Agricultural Relations Council and Agri Marketing magazine. He has been an ARC member for decades and his former agency has been active in the organization through the years.

“The Foundation can now invest this and earn additional dollars for the endowment. We hope that the returns at some point will allow the ARC Foundation to increase the value of the scholarship each year and become even more meaningful to the recipients.”

Orwig said.

The scholarship program has honored seven students since it was re-instituted in 2015. The scholarship assists a college student enrolled in an ag communications program.

“This is an extremely generous gift and will help the ARC Foundation immensely. Lyle’s generosity through the years – from a time, talent, and financial commitment – cannot be measured. We are thrilled with this gift and know that Lyle remains committed to the mission of ARC.”

said Kristy Mach, ARC executive director.

The ARC Foundation established the endowment a couple of years ago, with major commitments from Orwig, along with Gardner & Gardner Communications, through a financial gift from Den and Sandy Gardner. Den managed ARC through his company for 10 years until turning over the reins to his former associate Kristy Mach 18 months ago. His firm annually underwrites for ARC Gardner & Gardner Communications Internship Program.

ARC plays a key role in increasing the professionalism of its members through its annual meeting, regular webinars, Golden ARC Awards, and more.

“This is a vital organization for our industry. We encourage other leaders in the industry to step forward and be regular funders of this foundation and the endowments.”

added Orwig.

Gardner noted that ARC nearly disbanded a dozen years ago. Now it has about 200 members and recently had its largest number of entries in its awards program in decades. He still serves the association as a senior counselor.

“ARC is strong today because a handful of PR professionals stepped up many years ago to revitalize the organization. Now it’s time to take that next step in its journey to provide leadership in ag PR.”

he said.

The ARC Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Other regular contributors to the endowment are Agri Marketing magazine (led by Lynn Henderson), through an annual contribution to the Agricultural Public Relations Hall of Fame, G&S Business Communications, Truffle Media, Jim Evans, and Richard Howell.

ARC continues its search for endowment partners for such annual professional development efforts as:

Its webinar series

The Golden ARC Awards

The Founders Award

Keynote speakers at ARC’s annual meeting

ARC is also open to other ideas to promote agricultural PR and public affairs careers through its organization.

Three non-profit organizations will provide tailored learning initiatives for the participants within the project period. The Claas contribution to the AAF has inspired these organizations to come together and jointly respond to the need of implementing social initiatives for Zambian children and youth in the midst of a global pandemic. These organizations include:

4-H Group will support the green garden project by working with the Future Farm to provide hands-on educational activities by building a greenhouse facility for vegetable gardening and farm demonstration. Up to 50 children and youth from the community will be trained on land preparation for cropping, seed/seedling planting, crop and weed control, simple irrigation techniques, crop harvesting, nutrition, and related topics. The experiential learning will enable the children to build on the basics of growing vegetables for healthy eating.

The Leadership Bank, an organization committed to driving change and building networks of values-based leaders, will facilitate series of mentorship and coaching sessions with the Future Farm youth to enhance their leadership traits, soft skills, and personal growth. Other activities will help the participants develop skills to improve their confidence, decision-making, and equip them with healthy behaviors towards societal transformation.

Barefeet Theatre, the youth arts organization, will facilitate edutainment activities for the participants to enhance their creative skills towards social change and human development. Social and creative initiatives will be implemented as a means to strengthen their capacity towards improved confidence, creative skills, community inclusion, and prevention of engagement in social vices.

The poultry industry in Zambia is mostly dominated by small-scale farmers who depend on poultry as a social safety net, especially vulnerable households. Given the growing demand for poultry protein and global commitment towards the improvement of animal welfare, it is pivotal to develop tailored projects and initiatives that address key issues and provide sustainable solutions to hunger and nutrition among marginalized farming communities.

“We understand the urgent need to support small-scale farmers in Zambia so that together we can improve production and address existing food and nutrition insecurities. Our foundation is thrilled to partner with Self Help Africa to implement a sustainable approach to enhance the knowledge, skills, and practices of smallholders. Empowering the producers to improve their livestock management operations for economic and nutritional benefits will also highlight animal welfare practices for better treatment of farm animals across the value chain,”

says Metti Richenhagen, Managing Director, AGCO Agriculture Foundation.

The AGCO Agriculture Foundation’s funding is geared towards increasing the productivity, skills, nutrition, and income of 100 poultry farmers in the Chongwe district of Zambia and 50 female poultry farmers from the identified women’s groups.

“Supporting small-scale farmers to end hunger and poverty in rural Africa remains our key focus, and we are excited to work with the AGCO Agriculture Foundation to strengthen this zero hunger commitment. With the prevalence of hunger and nutrition insecurity in the targeted Chongwe district, which has been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are optimistic about the timely intervention the project will bring towards sustainable poultry production,”

Organizations include Trussell Trust in the United Kingdom, the World Food Program in Turkey, and Banco de Alimentos de Madrid in Spain

AGCO Agriculture Foundation (AAF), a private foundation based in Liechtenstein committed to ending hunger through sustainable agricultural development, has donated US$90,000 to three non-profit organizations to address hunger and poverty in communities worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donations spread across the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Spain, will be used to purchase and distribute emergency food and household items for vulnerable households in communities where AGCO’s customers, dealers, suppliers, and employees live and work. The donations are part of the second phase of the AAF COVID-19 Aid Program, which supports emergency responses globally in communities where AGCO’s customers, dealers, suppliers, and employees live and work, including in the EME region.

During the first phase of the aid program, the AAF supported the emergency response by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), with a funding amount of US$100,000 concentrated on the most vulnerable populations in countries in Latin America and Africa. Please visit the World Food Program USA’s donation page to support the AAF’s funding campaign or visit the SharetheMeal app and donate through the #AGCOAgricultureFoundation Team.

The AGCO Agriculture Foundation matches any contribution made to this campaign up to $100,000 to double its impact by raising additional funding to feed 342 children for a year and support WFP’s lifesaving work in 83 countries, which includes initiatives to support small-scale farmers and more.

said Metti Richenhagen, Managing Director, AGCO Agriculture Foundation:

“The AGCO Agriculture Foundation is committed to making long-term impacts in our most vulnerable communities as the presence of COVID-19 calls for ongoing support. We are proud to provide not only global but also local funding to support resources and initiatives that help communities in our EME region that are heavily impacted by the pandemic and economic uncertainty.”

The respective non-profit organizations are committed to utilizing the donation to provide emergency responses and drive impacts on their communities.

Trussell Trust will direct the donation to the food bank program in the UK to provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty and crisis and campaign for change to end hunger in the UK. The funds will be used to support the development of emergency storage and distribution systems to ensure that donated bulk supplies are rapidly delivered to individual food banks. The foodbanks distributed more than 6,250 emergency food parcels every day at the onset of the pandemic, and 3,000 of the beneficiaries were children.

For World Food Program-Turkey, the donation will be used to provide a critical lifeline to vulnerable people in Turkey, mostly refugees. The funds will also be used to support the WFP Adaption of Livelihoods Project (“Kitchens of Hope”) under COVID-19 in eight provinces of Turkey – Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Urfa, Adana, Kilis, Mardin, and Gaziantep. Funds will cover for the purchase of food, raw materials, and other inputs to support municipal soup kitchens as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. The organization will provide up to two meals per day for over 4,000 people in eight cities.

Banco de Alimentos will use the donation to enable the food bank in Madrid to obtain food, transport, and distribute it to the neediest people in the region of Madrid, which has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization is collecting whole foods from supermarkets and fruit and vegetables in the central market of Mercamadrid. In addition, the organization will facilitate social integration of the most disadvantaged community and education on food waste, healthy diet, and health safety. The organization is now delivering more than 190,000 meals per day, reaching most children.

“AGCO is always looking for the best way to support communities and customers in our regions. In such an unprecedented time like this, this support becomes a joint responsibility to address the impacts of the pandemic on economies and livelihood,”

said Torsten Dehner, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AGCO EME.

“We firmly believe that a resilient agriculture industry is essential, and our top priority is maintaining access to safe, healthy, and nutritious food throughout the COVID-19 pandemic fight.”

AGCO donates personal protective equipment and medical supplies in the EME region

In Germany, Fendt, an AGCO brand, and its cabin factory in Asbach-Bäumenheim produced 3D-printed face shields and donated them to doctors, local aid organizations, county associations from the Bavarian Red Cross, and regional dentists. In addition, five Fendt face shields were sent to every dealer location in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and England to ensure the safety of AGCO dealers and their host communities.

In France, AGCO and Massey Ferguson are responding to the call of the specially created French non-profit organization “Les Visières de l’Espoir” – “Hope’s Face Shields” initiated by 3DNatives, a French specialized 3D printing media. In the Beauvais manufacturing facility, Massey Ferguson is now using its 3D printing capacity to donate full-face shields to its local community and frontline health workers who are heroes working hard to save lives from the coronavirus pandemic. The AGCO Beauvais team, together with its GIMA colleagues donated 10,000 surgical masks as well as gloves and overalls from its own stocks to the Beauvais Hospital to support the medical personnel.

In Italy, AGCO’s Gold Harvesting Competence Center in Breganze has contributed to the fundraising campaign Aiutiamo i nostri medici (Help our Doctors) with the full commitment of all the staff and workers’ unions, raising 20,000 €. The project was promoted by the Santorso Town Council to support the local hospital’s COVID-19 center for the whole province of Vicenza. In addition to buying essential items and equipment to increase the number of intensive care beds, some of the donations went towards alternative housing for health workers who did not want to put their families at risk by going home after their shifts.
