DLG APPROVED. The test serves to highlight special innovations and key criteria of the subject of the test. However, approved does not equal approved since there is a certain evaluation scope in which some products perform better, others not so well. The Fliegl SKATE 150 with its well-known Fliegl screw distributors is DLG APPROVED with excellent ratings in all test criteria.

The manure distributor SKATE 150 mounted to a PFW Jumbo Line Plus 18000 was put
through its paces on Fliegl’s own test bench. The modules “Function and operating
principle” as well as “Handling, operation and maintenance” were assessed. The first
includes the quality of the lateral distribution of cattle and pig manure and the
determination of the time it takes for the manure to reach all outlets at the beginning of an application run. The second module evaluates how and with what effort the typical
operating steps and more frequent maintenance work can be carried out.

Testing module 1: Function and operating principle

When spreading the two types of manure with two different outputs of 560 rpm and 390
rpm, small mean deviations between 3.0% and 3.8% were determined. This means that
all test results can be rated “very good (++)” according to the DLG rating scheme.
As to the time it takes for the manure to reach all outlets at the beginning of an application
run: It only takes a maximum of 2.6 seconds for all 60 outlets of the distributor to be
supplied with slurry. This time results for the more viscous cattle manure at a lower volume
flow. Basically the test shows, the higher the volume flow and the thinner the substrate,
the shorter this time period.

Testing module 2: Handling, operation and maintenance

This category includes four disciplines, two of which are subject to changeover. Converting
from transport to working position as well as converting from working to transport position
only takes 26 seconds. The folding speed is limited by the specifications of the safety
standard. The „Easy Comfort Control” operates the folding and unfolding, optionally via
ISOBUS.

Who does not know the annoying and so important lubrication? With the Fliegl SKATE,
however, this is done in no time. The four lubrication points can be lubricated with grease
and a brush in just 63 seconds. The lubricating points are located on both supports of the
transport safety device and on the two carrier brackets of the slope compensation, so that all lubricating points are easily accessible and can be easily lubricated with the distributor
in the working position while standing upright.

The final test of the module includes emptying the storage boxes. The SKATE 150 has two screw distributors, so two storage boxes have to be emptied. This is done by hydraulically opening the brass gate valves. All foreign bodies that were in the substrate
and were collected in the storage boxes flow out. This process, from actuation to emptying,
takes between 5 and 7 seconds. If a visual inspection takes place at each storage box,
the maximum time required is 40 seconds.

The trailing shoe distributor SKATE impresses with excellent distribution qualities, best
times and easy and convenient maintenance work. It was therefore rightly awarded the “DLG-APPROVED” test mark.

The Fliegl trailing shoe distributor SKATE 150 has a working width of 15 meters. Two
Fliegl screw distributors, each with 30 outlets, are installed in it. The inner diameter of the
hoses is 40 mm. Due to the special frame and distributor construction, the SKATE
convinces with stability and yet low dead weight. It is designed in such a way that the
entire distributor rests on the floor. Thus, no vertical load is lost. In addition, automatic
slope compensation is integrated as standard.

The spring-loaded slotted shoes ensure optimal ground tracking. A pressure of 8 kg per
shoe acts on each coulter, so that hardly any nitrogen is lost to the environment. If the
entire working width of the spreader is not required, adjustment is possible via hydraulic
section control combined with bypass control. Individual outlets can also be regulated by
shutting off individual hoses.

The narrower the device, the safer it is for road trips. The Fliegl SKATE ensures an
extremely narrow transport position with especially suitable swivel joints. With a working
width of 15 m, the transport position is 2.6 m and which also guarantees good all-round
visibility. Furthermore, thanks to the folding mechanism, no outlet hoses are kinked when
folding out and in.

Besides the working width of 15 m, the Fliegl SKATE is available in widths of 6 m, 7.5 m,
9 m, 12 m, 18 m, 21 m and 24 m. The right model is therefore available for every company.
In addition, the smart distributor with low oil consumption cannot only be retrofitted to Fliegl manure tanks, but also to many tanks from other manufacturers.

TWIN nozzle

In addition to the trailing shoes installed as standard, the TWIN nozzles can be selected
as an option. These V-shaped trailing shoe nozzles divide the liquid manure flow and thus
double the volume of liquid manure applied. At the same time, it halves the amount of
liquid manure per outlet. Thereby, there is less forage contamination from residues or
crusts from manure bands and a better infiltration due to a smaller amount of substrate
per applied manure band. This ensures a more efficient liquid manure spreading.

At Agritechnica, 27 February – 5 March 2022, DLG will be launching a new award scheme “DLG Agrifuture Concepts” that recognises pioneering achievements and future visions. Such solutions serve as decisive drivers for the sustainability of crop production. Engineers from all parts of the world are working on technical solutions for the future of agriculture. However, not all ideas and concepts make it to a finished product. In some cases, technical or legal factors restrict their development to market products. Nevertheless many of these concepts have the potential to inspire and stimulate both farmers and engineers to think in new ways. The unthinkable becomes imaginable and the blinders are off when looking at agricultural development. The award scheme recognises the relevance of pioneers for the future of agriculture in five to 10 years.

The next DLG-Waldtage event, also known as DLG Forest Days, will take place 9th to 11th September 2022. The event was postponed by 12 months, following recommendations to the DLG by event partners and exhibitors, who expressed in a survey that they favoured the implementation of this attractive event format in 2022.

“The postponement of events caused by the Corona pandemic will also have a considerable impact on next year’s forestry events calendar. Brilon Forest Symposium: 10 September 2021

Brilon Forest Symposium on 10 September 2021 in Brilon, the DLG, together with the leading municipal forestry company Brilon and other partners, offers an information program that will focus on current existential questions relating to forestry practice and forestry policy.

New in 2021: DLG-PraxisSpot “Forest”

Next year a new event format will celebrate its premiere in the town of Brilon, located in North Rhine Westfalia and famous for its Briloner Stadtforst, which is one of the largest communally owned forests in Germany, covering 7,750 hectares. The DLG-PraxisSpot “Forest”, the newly launched platform aims to offer trade visitors a mix of expert information and live demonstrations, as close as possible to applied practice, and is therefore ideally positioned as a platform for investment decisions.

The first DLG practice spot will be held on 10 and 11 September 2021, in parallel with the Brilon Forest Symposium. The partner for this event is the Renewable Energy Information and Demonstration Centre (I.D.E.E.). The focus will be on the topic “Increasing the added value of damaged wood, described in German as calamity wood, for small private forest owners”. Various value-added and logistics chains in the areas of firewood processing, use of mobile sawmills, timber trailer and winch technology, and heating technology (heat from wood) will be shown.

Forest Romania 2021: Platform for the future market of South-Eastern Europe

Forest Romania is an important international event in the DLG’s trade fair program for forestry practice. The event takes place in September 2021 in Zizin/Siebenbürgen, Romania. As a platform for the professional forestry industry in Romania and South-East Europe, the open-air exhibition “Forest Practice live” presents the current challenges facing these markets.

“DLG Forest World” at Agritechnica 2021

 At the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural machinery, the “DLG Forestry World”, as part of Agritechnica Live-Arena, will be presenting comprehensive information and exhibition area in the open-air section of the exhibition grounds, which will complement the forestry products displayed in the halls.

The focus will be on topics such as “wood use in calamity times”, “wood logistics for primary and secondary employment” and “chopping and heating”. The range of information will be rounded off by live moderation by the DLG and exhibitors and will also be published in the streaming service of the “Agritechnica digital” online platform.  Forestry is a traditional part of Agritechnica with an entire hall at the show dedicated to forestry machinery and equipment, in addition to a working area outside offering demonstrations of some of the most popular kits. Agritechnica will take place in Hanover from 14 to 20 November 2021.

The company has been recognized for outstanding harvesting, product and technology innovations

John Deere displayed at the 2019 Agritechnica exposition in Hannover, Germany, its award-winning product innovations and showcased its Future Technology Zone: an exhibit highlighting advanced machine technology concepts that could drive future innovations in agriculture. The exhibit included nine R&D prototypes focused on automation, electrification and artificial intelligence.

The automation display focused on ways machines could perform certain operations in the field with minimal human assistance. The electrification portion focused on replacing mechanical and hydraulic components to make machines more efficient and productive while supporting emission-free farming and a reduced CO₂ footprint. Artificial intelligence was the third and final concept displayed.

Prior to the exposition, John Deere was awarded one gold medal and three silver medals by the DLG (German Agricultural Society) jury for its latest machine technology innovations. The one and only Gold Medal was awarded for the new John Deere eAutoPower transmission, the first electro-mechanical power split transmission that makes tractor-implement electrification possible. Silver Medals were awarded to John Deere for innovations that:

• Provide a combine operator an unprecedented level of control over the machine’s feed rate.
• Improve the operation of a large square baler through intelligent control of the tractor’s transmission and a self-learning algorithm.
• Deliver an overall efficiency package for a large combine.

During the expo, John Deere showcased its newest 7R and 8 Family Tractors. In addition, John Deere has previewed an expansion to the top end of their model line-up with the all new X9 Combine and matching Draper.

The X9 combine achieves this performance increase in productivity and harvest efficiency through the widest body available, improved crop flow, an increase in active threshing and separation areas, and a larger cleaning shoe, all while maintaining a transport width below 11-1/2-feet (3.5 meters). All combined, these features allow for a very high throughput, very low losses, improved grain and straw quality, and address the needs of large farmers looking to maximize their productivity and profits.

The new Draper enables maximum throughput in small grains. A hinged frame offers unmatched ground following capabilities, with the widest wing range available, resulting in better ground following in contours and sloping terrain, delivering clean, even stubble height and straw distribution for better seed establishment and emergence for the following crop. Additionally, a deep belt with a specially designed grain saving surface puts more grain in the combine and reduce loss at the header. The new Draper is also compatible with S-Series Combines.

All models of the S-Series Combine family continue to be available, and keep providing leading solutions in automation, grain quality, capacity, productivity and a low cost of operation.
