AgGateway hosted more than 125 attendees in Nashville this month for its Annual Conference, its first in-person event in two years, and an opportunity for the industry to collectively move the ball forward on digital connectivity efforts, as well as to honor outstanding individuals in digital agriculture.

“I was excited about the energy I saw throughout the event. Rooms were packed with good interaction, and attendees were having engaged and constructive conversations on key challenges we’ve identified. This conference sets us up well for a very productive 2022,”

said Brent Kemp, who will take over as President and CEO of AgGateway on January 1, with the announced retirement of Wendy Smith.

AgGateway leadership and member attendees took time during the conference to honor outstanding volunteers. The most prestigious recognition, the 2021 Ron Storms Leadership Award for outstanding and sustained organizational participation, was presented to Scott Nieman, Expert Enterprise Architect for Land O’Lakes. In presenting the award, Smith pointed to Nieman’s activity in working groups that delivered messages, APIs, and implementation guidelines linking manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and field equipment as “truly proving the promise of AgGateway resources to enable data to flow like water.

“He is a consistent voice championing interoperability tools for developers, challenging us to continue providing value to member companies, promoting AgGateway as a place where good work is being done,”

she continued, adding that Nieman serves as an effective ambassador in the industry,

The President’s Award recognizes individuals that have gone above and beyond in the support of AgGateway and its mission to develop the resources and relationships that drive digital connectivity. The 2021 recipient is the ADAPT Leadership Team of Dan Danford, CNH Industrial; Kelly Nelson, Farmbelt North; and Stuart Rhea, Syngenta Digital.

In calling ADAPT “One of AgGateway’s most important resources and biggest success stories,” Smith noted that ADAPT’s success “has been enabled by dedicated volunteers across the world and guided by steady leadership.”

Danford from CHN Industrial leads the ADAPT Business Team, which focuses its activities around effectively communicating the value of ADAPT to the industry.

“Dan has been relentless in identifying and addressing misunderstandings and seeking out opportunities across myriad industry events to tell the ADAPT story,”

said Smith.

Nelson and Rhea lead the ADAPT Technical Team.

“Their technical expertise is matched only by their unbiased and patient management of ADAPT’s highly complex code base,”

said Smith.

The three main ADAPT packages have accumulated more than 150,000 downloads, a testament to ADAPT’s value and utility.

“We never cease to be amazed by the collaborative spirit among the army of developers and system architects that build and maintain ADAPT,”

Smith said.

Finally, the 2021 AgGateway in Action award winners were acknowledged at the conference. One individual volunteer is selected from each of the organization’s three regions who have demonstrated commitment to moving AgGateway’s mission forward in the past year. Recipients are selected by the regional steering committees from member-contributed nominations. The 2021 recipients are:

North America: Mike Altman, Syngenta

Latin America: Ronaldo Pereira de Oliveira, EMBRAPA SOLOS

Europe: Joachim Crombez, Proagrica

Next year’s Annual Conference will be held November 14-16 at the Windham Grand Clearwater Beach in Florida.

Deutz will be a partner at this year’s #neuland conference, during which it will present its distinguished innovation prize, the Nicolaus August Otto Award. Named for the founder of Deutz AG and inventor of the four-stroke engine, the award is bestowed on modern visionaries. With prize money of €30,000, it fosters ideas in the fields of alternative drive systems, transportation, energy efficiency, innovative technology, and research for the future.

The previous winners of the Nicolaus August Otto Award were Professor Wolfgang Reitzle, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Linde plc and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Continental AG, and Professor Günther Schuh, Chair of Production Engineering at RWTH Aachen University.

Working hand in hand with business, policymakers, investors, and academics, #neuland aims to find solutions for living in metropolitan regions in the future that are visionary, efficient, and both environmentally and economically sustainable. In the past three years, the event’s German and international speakers have contributed important ideas for the future.

Dr. Frank Hiller, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutz AG:

“The #neuland conference addresses the issues that are also a priority for Deutz. We want to contribute to sustainable mobility with our drive systems. The conference, therefore, provides the perfect setting in which to present our innovation prize.”

The conference will take place in Aachen, Germany, from September 14 to 15, 2021. Once again, it will be attended by numerous decision-makers and investors from the world of business. As well as Deutz’s CEO, they include the leaders of listed companies Daimler, Deutsche Bank, RWE, and Vonovia. From the political sphere, the first ministers at the state and federal level, mayors of municipalities in Rhine-Ruhr, and senior managers from public transport networks in North Rhine-Westphalia have announced their involvement.

“In #neuland, we have established a think tank for pioneers and visionaries with the aim of bringing sustainable change to metropolitan regions such as Rhine-Ruhr by promoting innovative ideas,”

says Michael Mronz, CEO of Rhein Ruhr City GmbH, which is organizing the event and is also the driving force behind the Rhein Ruhr City bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The agenda for the two-day #neuland conference features subjects with significance for the future, including the hydrogen economy and renewable energies, integrated transportation and digitalization, sustainable living, and construction in the regions.

“We want #neuland to continually evolve and are therefore delighted to have signed up Deutz AG as a powerful new partner for the conference. I am confident that Deutz AG’s pioneering spirit and firmly embedded culture of innovation will be an invaluable asset to #neuland,”

explains Mronz.

Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) announces its 2020 National Stakeholders Virtual Conference will be held Nov. 18-19, 2020.

It’s the leading symposium for the military-to-agriculture movement – the growing movement to support the veteran men and women who choose to continue their service to the country by feeding it. The gathering returns for the sixth year.

A national non-profit that helps veterans pursue careers in agriculture, FVC mentors members of our Armed Forces who seek new ways to stay in communities they left in order to serve. When FVC was established in 2008, no one was connecting veterans with the farming community. Today there are more than 250 organizations supporting this movement. The Stakeholders Conference brings all the players together.

Founder Michael O’Gorman said:

“A study showed that ever-increasing numbers of our all-volunteer military are coming from rural areas. We want to help them have a meaningful career when they return home. Farming has become their new mission.”

FVC has assisted thousands of veterans with everything from equipment and grants, business plans, training, and peer collaboration.

The conference connects veterans who are geographically isolated and sometimes separated from access to services. It’s a forum for members to share their stories – their triumphs, struggles, lessons learned, and successes gained. It also serves as an introduction to resources available to veterans – from government, higher education, and partner organizations. Farmer veteran members benefit from exchanging ideas, and building their own community, together as individuals with unique goals, but in a united spirit of camaraderie.

America’s farmer veterans have been severely impacted by Covid-19. This year’s conference features two days of resources crucial to members during this time, through education, workshops, distinguished speakers, guest panels, networking, and development of FVC’s 25 state chapters.

FVC welcomes veterans – including those still serving – who are currently farming, interested in farming, or just want to learn more about the movement. They also welcome non-veterans who would like to show their support of these brave men and women and tune in for agricultural education.

Natalie Monroe, Communications Director, said:

“While nothing can replace the energy of an in-person gathering, we are thrilled that this likely will be the largest gathering of our community. A virtual platform means every single one of farmer veterans has the real possibility of attending without having to travel away from their farms. They can even tune in from the seat of their tractor!”

Even in this virtual capacity, FVC has plans for attendee interaction so that the experience is beyond simply tuning into a screen.

With the whole nation taking a new interest in the health of our rural communities and economies, the collaborative effort of these farmer veterans becomes even more important for making a greater impact in their home towns.

FVC member Rachael Taylor-Tuller of Lost Peacock Creamery in Washington reflects:

“I think people who join the military feel called to be part of something bigger than themselves. Farmers are the same way. When you’re in the military, you’re helping keep your community safe. When you’re in farming, you’re helping keep your community fed. You go from national security to food security. I am very proud to call myself a farmer and I consider it an honor to nourish my neighbors.”
