For the model year 2022, Deere has introduced the new 800R Floater for ag-service providers and customers, which can be equipped with an air boom, updated dry spinner-spreader, and liquid systems. Compared to the previous John Deere F4365, the 800R helps operators cover more acres per day with less fatigue and improves serviceability by reducing attachment changeover times.

“The 800R delivers a best-in-class ride quality and operator comfort. In the field, an 800R can be driven up to 25 mph when utilizing John Deere AutoTrac guidance, making it the most productive high-capacity nutrient application system available,”

said Franklin Peitz, John Deere’s product marketing manager.

Every John Deere 800R comes equipped with integrated precision-ag solutions, factory-installed Generation 4 Display, and a 4G JDLink MTG (modem). Once JDLink is activated, owners can stream their machine and field data to their John Deere Operations Center account free of charge. This lets farmers stay ahead of logistics by monitoring their equipment via the Operations Center mobile app in near real-time from anywhere. And ag-service providers can use the AgLogic app to make efficient scheduling decisions, assign work orders, and analyze machine performance. The JDLink connection also enables John Deere Connected Support with proactive machine health monitoring tools via the customer’s John Deere dealer.

The NL4500G4 Edge Box makes it possible for the floater to spread product across the field edges without applying it into waterways or ditches and is backed by a two-year New Leader warranty. Previously, to achieve this level of control, operators had to manually flip switches on a New Leader controller mounted in the cab. These controls have now been replaced with ISO compatible, touch-screen controls that are integrated into the Generation 4 Display.

For lime applications, John Deere is offering a new HP Lime Box, the high-performance option from New Leader. Compared to previous models the HP Lime Box helps operators cover more acres per day by applying higher rates at higher speeds – up to 16 to 18 mph. The higher application rates and speeds are possible thanks to the wider conveyor speed range, optional conveyor chain, and larger gate opening of the HP Lime Box.

Another improvement John Deere made to the 800R was the addition of new common hydraulic pumps that significantly decrease the amount of change over time required to switch between wet and dry systems. All New Leader dry-bin configurations, Hagie Liquid Systems, and Air Boom attachments can now all use the same hydraulic pumps. “Previously changing from wet to dry was a 10- to 12-hour job. Now, the changeover can be done in about half the time, saving time and money,”

Peitz said.

To help reduce cab clutter and give operators better storage options, John Deere increased the size of the storage box located under the platform of the 800R, making it three times larger than previous models.

The LS20 Liquid System of the 800R offers more options than the previous LS475. Optional front fill and side fill will now be offered for the liquid system. The new LS20 is available with 30-inch turrets and 60-inch cams, or 60-inch on-center cam locks with 15-inch on-center high-flow five-way nozzle bodies.

The 800R comes equipped with a field-proven 90-foot boom and 2,000-gallon solution tank that delivers a best-in-class floater ride quality and operator comfort.

A unique, adjustable-clearance applicator is available to order in October.

AGCO Corporation has launched the new Fendt Rogator 900 Series applicator with adjustable clearance, bringing North American operators a single machine for applying liquid or dry crop care products at any time, to any size crop. The new Fendt Rogator will debut at MAGIE and the Farm Progress Show in August 2021.

“The Fendt Rogator 900 is the first of its kind – the only self-propelled, rear-mounted boom applicator with adjustable clearance and easy conversion between liquid and dry systems for ultimate versatility. Because the new Rogator can be equipped for nearly any type of crop care application, customers not only optimize their investment in the machine but have greater control over when and how products are applied. That helps ensure better product use for higher yields and an overall better return on their crop care investment,”

says David Fickel, manager of tactical marketing for application equipment at AGCO.

As crop production practices evolve and farmers make more late-season passes to apply nutrients and fungicides or seed cover crops, the need for high-clearance equipment is greater than ever to clear tall crops like corn, sugar cane, sunflowers, and others. Now, farmers can use the Fendt Rogator 900 as their one machine to apply liquid or dry products any time ‒ pre-plant or postemergence in short or tall crops and after harvest for fall fertilization, burndown, or cover-crop seeding.

“This new Rogator is the latest farmer-focused solution in a line of innovations from AGCO that combines the quality, comfort, and reliability of Fendt with the application expertise that began with the introduction of Ag-Chem’s first self-propelled field sprayer in 1972,”

Fickel says.

The new applicator is the latest solution from Fendt created to meet the evolving crop production needs of today’s farmers. It joins the Fendt IDEAL combine, the Fendt Momentum planter, and the growing family of Fendt tractors.

Quickly change machine height and switch application systems

With the push of a button, the two new H (high-clearance) models automatically raise from standard to high clearance of up to 76 inches in less than 45 seconds for critical late-season dry or liquid application and less disturbance of tall crops. After application, the applicators just as quickly return to standard clearance of 56 to 60 inches, depending on the model for superior stability on the road.

Changing between the liquid system and a dry spinner or pneumatic system takes less than two hours: unhook two or four hydraulic connections, remove the onboard system from the chassis and replace it with the one needed for the next job. The hydraulic pump for all systems stays on the chassis.

Designed with more automation, precision, productivity, and comfort

Owners of Fendt tractors and combines as well as the current RoGator C Series applicator will find the multifunction joystick and armrest of the Rogator 900 series familiar and easy to operate.

Fendt Rogator 900 Series includes these features and options:

The OptiLoad system of the industry-leading LiquidLogic system now offers the best of both worlds – customizable and fully automated rinsing controlled from the cab. Using the Fendt VarioTerminal, the operator can control how long to run each electronic valve for each type of product, without leaving the cab.

A variable fan with reversing function helps clear the engine cooling package of pollen and fine dust, increasing cooling efficiency and reducing downtime to clear filters.

The Fendt 900 Series cab features dual activated-carbon filters and a state-of-the-art cab pressurization fan for protection from dust, aerosols, and vapors. The cab has 12% more glass than the previous Rogator, giving operators greater visibility. More shoulder room, Air-Ride seat suspension, and a heated and cooled seat provide maximum comfort for long days in the machine.

A range of nozzle, section, and boom-height control options are available with the choice of two technology packages for precise application. The EZ-Drops drop tube kit can be added for placing late-season nitrogen and cover-crop seed below the crop canopy.

Customers can choose either the Protechi technology package for the Fendt VarioTerminal and integrated Fendt technology or the ProTech+ technology package with the Fendt Viper 4+ field computer for the ultimate combination of operating power and program capabilities.

Five models, with multiple system choices to fit all operations

The Fendt Rogator 900 Series has five models: RG932, RG934, RG934H, RG937, and RG937H, ranging from 315 HP to 339 HP. The RG932 and RG934, with 70-inch-diameter tires, have 56-inch standard clearance; the RG937 has 80-inch tires and 60-inch standard clearance. The two high-clearance, dual-position chassis models, RG934H and RG937H, change to clearance heights of 72 inches and 76 inches, respectively.

All models have AGCO Power 8.4L engines and are equipped with LiquidLogic liquid management (standard), with liquid capacities ranging from 900 to 1,300 gallons, or dry spinner systems with capacities ranging from 253 to 330 cubic feet. All but the RG932 can be equipped with the Air-Max Precision R1 or R2 pneumatic boom spreader, ranging from 215 to 275 cubic feet in capacity. Owners can customize the systems and tank sizes they need for their operation.

Steel booms of 90-, 100- and 120-foot lengths with 10-, 15- and 20-inch nozzle spacing are available to suit specific width, volume, and broadcast needs. An optional aluminum 132-foot boom, 5% lighter than a 120-foot steel boom, is also offered.

Just as with the current RoGator C models, operators of the new Rogator 900 machines will benefit from the automatic traction control of the AWD SmartDrive system. Turn-compensated wheel speed provides independent control of each wheel to assist in tight turns and reduce soil disruption and crop damage. Optional GatorTrak 4-Wheel Steer offers a tight, 16.5-foot turning radius that dramatically improves field maneuverability, crosses fewer rows, and reduces compaction.

Higher precision – save costs, protect the environment

With EasySet 2, Amazone offers an attractively priced solution for automatic spread rate regulation at varying forward speeds for the ZA-M and, for the first time, the ZA-X. In this respect, the size of the apertures is adjusted by automatically setting the shutter position in such a way that the application rate always remains the same.

This means that the operator is not forced to maintain a constant forward speed but can speed up or slow down depending on the size of the field and the ground conditions. The operator has the option of using an X-sensor (counting pulses), a signal cable (transmission of the tractor speed), or a GPS antenna to determine or transmit the speed signal.

EasyCheck digital, mobile test kit for easy optimization of the lateral distribution.

EasySet 2, in conjunction with the electric shutter control, has the added advantage that the application rate can be adjusted very precisely and on the move, in order to avoid wastage, save costs and protect the environment.

The desired application rate is simply entered into the in-cab terminal to the exact kilogram and this can be easily increased or reduced from the cab on both sides or either side during the spreading process. This also applies when carrying outside, border and watercourse spreading.

EasyCheck digital, mobile test kit for easy optimisation of the lateral distribution.
More comfort

EasySet 2 does not require any menu prompting meaning that each button only has one function and is very easy to use. In this way, the shutter slides can be opened and closed electrically to both sides or one side. Simple entry of the required spread rate in the terminal eliminates the need to leave the tractor cab and make manual adjustments to the setting scales on the rear of the machine.

All that is needed is a 12 V power connection for the in-cab terminal, meaning that, as opposed to hydraulic shutter control, any hydraulic connections to the tractor can be dispensed with.

Another special feature is the integrated hectare meter, which allows the user to keep an eye on the machine output at all times. The terminal also has a total area counter.

The new machine control system is rounded off by the extremely convenient function of semi-automatic rate calibration and the emptying of residual amounts.

New look

After a facelift, the tried-and-tested ZA-X and ZA-M mounted spreaders look more like the ZA-V and ZA-TS models and now make up a uniform “ZA family”.

The basic models remain unchanged in terms of their working widths and hopper capacities. For example, the new compact ZA-X 03 mounted spreader is available in working widths from 10 m to 18 m and hopper capacities from 500 l to 1,400 l. Optional hopper extensions enable the capacity to be increased to a maximum of 1,750 l.

The ZA-M 02 series offers flexible working widths from 10 to 36 m and covers hopper sizes from 1,000 l to 1,500 l, which can be increased to up to 3,000 l by means of extensions with narrow or wide filling openings, depending on the size of the farm.

Proper sprayer setup and well-timed application leads to the best weed control

AGCO Corporation released the latest update of its Application Crop Tour findings. The AGCO Crop Care Team designed this year’s AGCO Application Crop Tour to show several best practices to maximize the effectiveness of a weed-control program.

Darren Goebel, AGCO director of Global Agronomy and Farm Solutions, says:

“When it comes to controlling weeds, there’s this battle going on between productivity, efficacy, and drift control. Growers want to get over as many acres as they can without having to stop and refill the sprayer. But with today’s contact herbicides, they need to get good coverage while also ensuring that the product they’re spraying reaches its intended target.”

Proper sprayer set-up is key to achieving desired weed-control results.

Using demonstration plots of LibertyLink crops, cotton in Georgia, and soybeans in Illinois, the AGCO team examined the effects of ground speed, sprayer nozzles, droplet size, carrier volume, and sprayer boom height.

Jason Lee, the AGCO agronomist, and farm solutions specialist, says that regardless of treatment, the biggest takeaway from the plots in Illinois was the importance of weed-control timing. Because the plots did not initially experience much weed pressure, the agronomists waited for more weeds to emerge, which allowed some troublesome waterhemp plants to get quite large.

“The problem with waiting for a full flush of weeds before spraying is that some weeds will get way too big and really hard to control. We should control weeds when they’re small: four inches or less in height.”

Lee explains, adding that applicators should read and follow all product label instructions.

In order to ensure the efficacy of weed-control programs, read and follow all product label instructions.

In order to ensure the efficacy of weed-control programs, read and follow all product label instructions. Contact herbicides should be applied when weeds are still small: four inches or less in height.

The AGCO team applied Liberty herbicide at speeds ranging from 5 to 15 mph and with carrier volumes ranging from 10 to 20 gallons per acre. Sprayer nozzles creating droplets of various sizes from medium to extremely coarse also were evaluated.

Goebel says:

“From what we saw, as long as we were using the appropriate nozzle to give us the correct droplet size for the speed we were running, we’d get the right coverage. We thought maybe there would be a bigger effect due to speed, but we really didn’t see any issues as long as we were doing everything else right.”

With weed-control products such as Liberty, which is a contact herbicide, getting adequate coverage is the most important factor, Goebel says. Achieving proper coverage will vary based on sprayer nozzle type and carrier volume.

At lower carrier volumes, such as 10 gallons per acre, using nozzles that create smaller droplets will help improve control.

“However, smaller droplet sizes increase the risk of drift. Higher carrier volumes provide better coverage but require more tank fill-ups. Applicators need to strike that balance between productivity efficacy and drift,”

he adds.

Boom height is crucial for achieving effective weed control. The height above targeted weeds should equal the spacing of nozzles to ensure proper coverage. Booms set too high also can lead to significant evaporation of product and issues with drift control. Courtesy of agcocorp.com

Based on what he observed in the Georgia cotton plots, Goebel recommends applying at least 15 gallons of carrier volume per acre, using nozzles that produce a coarse droplet.

“If you’re going to use nozzles that produce larger droplets, you really should bump the water up some more to ensure you’re getting good coverage,”

he says.

Sprayers equipped with pulse width modulation systems help ensure applicators are maintaining constant pressure, rate, and droplet size no matter the speed at which the application occurs.

Another application factor the AGCO team evaluated was boom height. Goebel says that the coverage penalty for improper height can be severe. The team compared the coverage and weed control achieved with booms at 20 inches and 60 inches above the target.

Boom height is crucial for achieving effective weed control. The height above targeted weeds should equal the spacing of nozzles to ensure proper coverage. Booms set too high also can lead to significant evaporation of products and issues with drift control.

“Booms often get set too high because applicators don’t want them to accidentally hit the ground. But if you’re spraying four to five feet from the target, you’re not going to get proper coverage, and you’ll also likely get more drift. Ideally, for 110-degree spray angles, your boom height above the target should equal your nozzle spacing. So, if your nozzles are 20 inches apart, your boom should be approximately 20 inches above the target. At 60 inches, we only achieved about 30% control. The spray simply didn’t make it to the target due to a combination of drift and evaporation.”

he says, noting that boom-height control systems take the guesswork out of setting heights.

He concludes:

“If you’re trying to get over a lot of acres quickly on a hot, sunny afternoon, boom height is really going to have a big impact. These products need to be applied well, and having a good understanding of application equipment setup is the first step in ensuring an effective weed-control program.”
