Abbey Machinery LESS Applicators are key to efficiently meeting emissions reduction regulations while saving money through the precise application of valuable, nutrient-dense slurry.

There are a few key steps farms can take to reduce nitrogen emissions (nitrous oxide and ammonia) to the air and the loss of nitrates to water. Most importantly is the better utilization of applied N sources through the efficient use of N in organic manures to improve the carbon footprint of the farm and food produced.

N, P, and K nutrients are fundamental to effective food production. Crops rely on balanced nutrition from N, P and K to grow. Healthy grass transfers the nutrients through herd consumption promoting the health and energy of the herd.

In developing a sustainability program, the operator must account for factors such as weather, soil type, and local conditions when applying these nutrients to ensure nutrients are applied as efficiently as possible. Abbey Machinery LESS applications work with various technical controls such as NIR and ISOBUS to support slurry nutrient measurements and application control for optimal spreading. It is essential to consider the nutrients that are applied are delivered at the right rate at the right time and in the right place.

Abbey Machinery has a range of mounted and stand-alone low emissions slurry spreading applicators to meet new regulations. Slurry applicator models include a DM Band Spreader, Trailing Shoe, Shallow Disc Injector, and Cereal Applicators in a variety of different sizes ranging from 6 to 24 meters depending on the model, all for efficient and precise slurry spreading. Abbey applicators are also built to support umbilical systems.

Included in the Abbey Machinery range is the Trailing Shoe applicator. The Abbey Trailing Shoe technology distributes the slurry on the ground underneath the canopy of the grass.  This ensures nutrients are absorbed faster, leaf contamination is reduced, and carbon emissions are reduced to the absolute minimum.

As with all LESS equipment, the timing and accurate placement of the slurry maximize the optimum nutrition and sustainable quantities of N, P, and K to the leafy growing sward. The Trailing Shoe technology parts the grass while applying the slurry to the soil surface and minimizes contamination of the leaf. The Trailing Shoe results in up to 60% reduction in N loss (as ammonia) to the atmosphere compared to traditional spreading methods. The Trailing Shoe applicator returns slurry to silage ground recycling nutrients efficiently and maximizing slurry fertilizer.

With more focus on sustainability, it will become a competitive advantage for producers with existing carbon management plans. The use of Abbey slurry applicators is one of the biggest opportunities to capitalize on precision nutrient application to further increase the value of the nutrient-dense slurry while reducing carbon emissions.

Two sizes of 2430C applicators are available – the 19-knife toolbar with a 47-foot working width, and the redesigned 25-knife configuration with reduced transport height and 62-foot working width. Both come standard on 30-inch spacings with Tru-Depth heavy-duty cast standards and TruSet depth control. Coulters, a variety of knives, and closing disk options are available for both models.

With a reduced transport height of 14 feet, the 62-foot wide 2430C is 2.5 feet lower than previous models, making it easier to transport under bridges and power lines when moving from field to field.

“The new 2430C Nutrient Applicator is a rugged, highly productive tool for ag service providers and farmers to accurately apply anhydrous ammonia across more acres more quickly while minimizing outgassing. With the 62-foot- or 47-foot-wide model, customers can select the right size to best fit their operation and nitrogen application needs,”

Existing John Deere customers may notice the placement of the outer wings has changed to allow for maximum working widths and the low transport height. All 2430C models feature a floating hitch for uniform depth control across the entire working width and outside-mounted float tires to maximize flotation. The shanks can place nutrients deep if needed or shallower if not, all easily controlled in the cab with TruSet and seal the soil helping to minimize nutrient loss.

“TruSet depth control and documentation capabilities on these tools are other unique features ag service providers and farmers will find useful. These tools provide customers with the complete package of durability, precision, control, documentation, and performance they want when trying to cover as many acres as possible under tough field conditions and tight application windows,”

says Jardon.

The 19- and 25-knife 2430C Nutrient Applicators will be available to order this winter with delivery starting in 2022.

AGCO will showcase its newly-introduced Fendt Rogator 900 Series applicator to North America at two major agricultural trade shows in August 2021.

True to Fendt’s tradition of delivering innovative solutions that meet the needs of farmers, this first-of-its-kind self-propelled applicator adjusts between standard and high clearance with the push of a button and converts from liquid to dry application and vice versa in as little as two hours.

The new Fendt Rogator applicator offers season-long crop care versatility, delivering a single machine for applying liquid or dry crop care products any time ‒ pre-plant, post-emerge, mid-season, or late-season ‒ as well as cover-crop seeding or application of nutrients or burndown products in the fall.

Full details about the design and capabilities of the Fendt Rogator 900 Series applicator and its availability in North America will be announced in August. Plus, with the AFS Pro 1200 display, the technology delivers complete in-cab planter control, which can interact with multiple implements and machines, regardless of manufacturer.

New configurations for the FA 1030 air boom applicator

To help operators cover more ground in less time, Case IH is adding a new 90-ft. boom option — now the widest boom configuration available — for the FA 1030 air boom applicator. Plus, the FA 1030 is now available for either the Titan 3540 or 4540 floater models, giving customers the choice of either 3- or 4-wheel configurations. Case IH added the FA 1030 air boom applicator to the lineup in August 2020.

The new 90-ft. boom option paired with 320 cubic feet of struck capacity enables operators to make the most of their time in the field,”

The FA 1030 also offers variable-rate product application and left/right boom section control to further optimize product delivery. Operators can select from a range of bin options, including single-, double- and triple-bin configurations. The ability to configure the FA 1030 to spread up to three products and up to 1,200 pounds per acre of total product at 10 mph maximizes field efficiency.
