AgGateway hosted more than 125 attendees in Nashville this month for its Annual Conference, its first in-person event in two years, and an opportunity for the industry to collectively move the ball forward on digital connectivity efforts, as well as to honor outstanding individuals in digital agriculture.

“I was excited about the energy I saw throughout the event. Rooms were packed with good interaction, and attendees were having engaged and constructive conversations on key challenges we’ve identified. This conference sets us up well for a very productive 2022,”

said Brent Kemp, who will take over as President and CEO of AgGateway on January 1, with the announced retirement of Wendy Smith.

AgGateway leadership and member attendees took time during the conference to honor outstanding volunteers. The most prestigious recognition, the 2021 Ron Storms Leadership Award for outstanding and sustained organizational participation, was presented to Scott Nieman, Expert Enterprise Architect for Land O’Lakes. In presenting the award, Smith pointed to Nieman’s activity in working groups that delivered messages, APIs, and implementation guidelines linking manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and field equipment as “truly proving the promise of AgGateway resources to enable data to flow like water.

“He is a consistent voice championing interoperability tools for developers, challenging us to continue providing value to member companies, promoting AgGateway as a place where good work is being done,”

she continued, adding that Nieman serves as an effective ambassador in the industry,

The President’s Award recognizes individuals that have gone above and beyond in the support of AgGateway and its mission to develop the resources and relationships that drive digital connectivity. The 2021 recipient is the ADAPT Leadership Team of Dan Danford, CNH Industrial; Kelly Nelson, Farmbelt North; and Stuart Rhea, Syngenta Digital.

In calling ADAPT “One of AgGateway’s most important resources and biggest success stories,” Smith noted that ADAPT’s success “has been enabled by dedicated volunteers across the world and guided by steady leadership.”

Danford from CHN Industrial leads the ADAPT Business Team, which focuses its activities around effectively communicating the value of ADAPT to the industry.

“Dan has been relentless in identifying and addressing misunderstandings and seeking out opportunities across myriad industry events to tell the ADAPT story,”

said Smith.

Nelson and Rhea lead the ADAPT Technical Team.

“Their technical expertise is matched only by their unbiased and patient management of ADAPT’s highly complex code base,”

said Smith.

The three main ADAPT packages have accumulated more than 150,000 downloads, a testament to ADAPT’s value and utility.

“We never cease to be amazed by the collaborative spirit among the army of developers and system architects that build and maintain ADAPT,”

Smith said.

Finally, the 2021 AgGateway in Action award winners were acknowledged at the conference. One individual volunteer is selected from each of the organization’s three regions who have demonstrated commitment to moving AgGateway’s mission forward in the past year. Recipients are selected by the regional steering committees from member-contributed nominations. The 2021 recipients are:

North America: Mike Altman, Syngenta

Latin America: Ronaldo Pereira de Oliveira, EMBRAPA SOLOS

Europe: Joachim Crombez, Proagrica

Next year’s Annual Conference will be held November 14-16 at the Windham Grand Clearwater Beach in Florida.

After a 16 month wait, the 2022 World Ag Expo season was kicked off by Show Chairman Steve Wilbur on Saturday, September 25. The “Chairman’s Kickoff Dinner” was attended by volunteers, staff, and invited guests at the Social Hall on the International Agri-Center grounds. For many, it was the first time they had seen each other since the 2020 show.

“This is a great night. It is so good to be back together and working on a farm show!”

gushed Wilbur.

A local cotton farmer, Wilbur also runs a dairy with his family, grows feed and multiple row crops. He has previously served as the International Agri-Center Board Chair, as well as being the 2014 Chairman of the California Cotton Growers Association and serving on the board of Cotton Inc.

The 2022 show proclaims World Ag Expo is “Back in Agtion,” a play on words with a few meanings. While COVID-19 sidelined the live show in 2021, farmers and ag professionals never stopped working during the pandemic. Volunteers and staff are ready to bring back the live show and provide a place for everyone in ag to meet, shop, and learn something new. Plus, “Agtion” is a Dad-joke style play on “Action” reminding people that farm shows are a fun place to be.

“We’re so happy to be back. The 2021 digital show was an interesting experience, but we’re ready to get our boots on the show grounds to work with our exhibitors and host our attendees,”

said Jerry Sinift, International Agri-Center CEO.

The annual show is produced by the International Agri-Center, a non-profit focused on agriculture education year-round.

Entering its 55th year, World Ag Expo is the largest annual outdoor ag tradeshow in the world. In 2020, the show saw 106,357 attendees from 46 states and 56 countries. With more than 1,400 exhibitors and 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space, World Ag Expo provides a platform for networking, education, and business in one of the most productive ag counties in the United States. Applications are open online for seminar submissions at https://bit.ly/WAE22SeminarApp and the Top-10 New Products Contest at https://bit.ly/WAE22Top10App.

Tickets are on sale online now at https://bit.ly/WAE22Tickets, and attendees can plan their visit at www.worldagexpo.org. With a diverse lineup of agriculture companies and seminars covering international trade, irrigation, ag policy, hemp, and more, there is something for every ag professional at the 2022 World Ag Expo. The 55th edition will run Tuesday, February 8 through Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the International Agri-Center in Tulare, CA.
