This strategic move marks a significant milestone in the company’s mission to enhance on-farm harvesting efficiency and productivity for farmers worldwide.

Based in Brandon, Manitoba, Bushel Plus specializes in advanced agricultural solutions that help farmers reduce grain loss at harvest to maximize profits. Proven to enhance harvest efficiency across all operation sizes, Bushel Plus precision-based tools and technology empower farmers to capture more profits while saving time, fuel, and equipment wear.

With a strong international presence, Bushel Plus products are currently sold in 35 countries, earning a reputation for reliability and effectiveness in the field.

“Expanding our footprint into the US is a natural next step in our growth journey. The strong demand we’re seeing in the US is a testament to the impact our solutions are having on farms worldwide. By collaborating with established dealers, we’re ensuring that American farmers have easy access to our top-tier tools, backed by expert support and service.”

said Marcel Kringe, CEO and Founder of Bushel Plus.

Bushel Plus Product Lineup

Under this strategic expansion, Bushel Plus is bringing a suite of harvest optimization tools to the US market, including its flagship SmartPan System. This monitoring tool collects and calculates grain loss with accurate data for precise, real-time calibration of combine settings.

Additionally, the company offers a unique family of precision-engineered MAD Concaves. Unlike standard concaves that may require cover plates or the pulling of wires to achieve results, MAD Concaves incorporate innovative grate designs that improve threshing efficiency and combine capacity while reducing grain damage. Adaptable across different combine models, crop types and conditions, MAD Concaves provide a significant advantage in reducing rotor loss, a common issue with standard concaves when harvesting high-moisture or high-yield crops.

Another innovative tool in the lineup is the MiniCombine, a battery-powered device that quickly collects crop samples for moisture testing ahead of harvest. Delivering highly accurate test results, this hand-held tool saves farmers time and money by eliminating the need to transport a combine, header, and truck to fields just to test pre-harvest crop moisture.

In 2025, Bushel Plus will be showcasing its products at US farm shows, including Commodity Classic, March 2-4, 2025, in Denver, CO.

Focus on developing grain technology to improve customers’ operations

AGCO announced an agreement to acquire research and product development firm 151 Research to create new technology solutions for grain customers.

AGCO and 151 Research previously had an exclusive technology partnership to develop GSI GrainViz precision grain monitoring, which gives growers and commercial operators advanced insight into the moisture content of the grain in their steel storage bins. This acquisition will allow AGCO to continue the development of GrainViz and expand into new solutions.

“Our grain customers are facing significant challenges due to difficulty finding labor, low commodity prices, and tight margins. We need the sharpest minds working on finding answers to these challenges, and we believe this acquisition will help improve our customers’ operations through smarter technology,”

said Stefan Caspari, AGCO Senior Vice President, General Manager, Grain, and Protein.

“We are excited about the continued development of GrainViz and look forward to creating a connected experience across the entire grain system to increase efficiency and profitability for our customers.”

Paul Card, Chief Executive Officer, 151 Research, said:

“Our team’s goal at 151 Research has always been to solve problems by helping customers gain actionable insights to improve their business. GrainViz allows users to see the moisture content throughout the entire grain mass to proactively manage the quality and quantity of their stored grain. We are pleased AGCO recognized the benefits this game-changing technology can bring to customers and shares our passion for finding smarter answers to the industry’s biggest challenges.”

AGCO intends to retain the firm’s 45 current employees and to maintain the Winnipeg office as the smart grain technology center of excellence. The team is completing an initial release of GrainViz in a limited number of bins this fall. A broader launch is planned prior to the 2021 harvest.

The governments of Canada and Manitoba announced a new $3-million cost-shared Canadian Agricultural Partnership program to support projects that will help agricultural processors mitigate the spread of COVID-19, federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau and Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development Minister Blaine Pedersen announced.

Bibeau said:

“Food producers and processors have had to deal with so many new challenges over the past months, while continuing to supply Canadians with the high-quality food they produce. Manitoba processors have stepped up to deal with those challenges, just as Canadians have never been more appreciative of the importance of our food supply chain. The funding our two governments are delivering together today gives Manitoba processors an extra financial boost to adjust to the challenges presented by COVID-19 and help keep their workers safe.”

“A COVID-19 response for the agri-food and agri-product sector is needed to ensure processors can adapt, recover and maintain competitiveness,” said Pedersen. “The pandemic has required them to make changes to their operations and enhance their employee protections. Manitoba’s food and agri-product processors are significant contributors to our economy, so we are pleased to offer a program that helps respond to these challenges.”

The new COVID-19 Response Initiative will provide financial assistance to agri-food and agri-product processors, food distributors and agri-food industry organizations for:

• business continuity practices, training and resources to support COVID-19 mitigation; and

• beginning in September, financial assistance will also be available for materials, supplies and equipment rentals needed to adapt production processes to meet social distancing and other precautions related to COVID-19.

Eligible costs must be directly related to the execution of a project and must be incurred between April 1, 2020, and Jan. 31, 2021. Projects must be completed on or before Jan. 31, 2021.

Governments will contribute a maximum of 50 per cent of eligible project costs, up to $25,000 per applicant.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Emergency Processing Fund (EPF) is a federal investment of up to $77.5 million to help companies implement changes to safeguard the health and safety of workers and their families due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The province of Manitoba has a legacy of agriculture, an economic engine of growth for the province and for the country, generating total revenues of $5.2 billion in 2018 for the Manitoba food and beverage processing sector.

Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, traveled to Winnipeg to participate in the CropConnect Conference — Manitoba’s top crop production and farm management conference — to engage with farmers and industry stakeholders. She also met with Manitoba Agriculture Minister Blaine Pedersen to discuss key agricultural issues and priorities for the province.

During her visit, Minister Bibeau met with grain farmers and recognized that 2019 has been difficult for them as a result of bad weather, but also rail and trade disruptions. The grain sector is an important driver of Canada’s economy and a key priority for the government. The Minister reiterated that she will continue to work with her colleagues across the government and with her provincial partners to find the best ways to support farmers, not only for 2019 but for years to come.

While in Manitoba, she was pleased to announce funding to Canada Grains Council to develop the first-ever code of practice which will help grain farmers tell their story of environmental sustainability and high-quality grains to consumers and to our global customers.

The Minister also had the opportunity to meet with Manitoba pork producers and discuss how they will continue to work together to protect and strengthen their sector. Minister Bibeau reaffirmed the government’s commitment to diversify Canada’s agri-food trade and announced funding for Manitoba Pork Council to help pork producers in the province manage risk during times of financial pressures on their businesses.

“Our Government has an ambitious agenda for Canadian agriculture that starts with smart investments like this, which will demonstrate health benefits of Western crops to Canadians and international consumers. St. Boniface hospital has a world-class teams of researchers who are keeping our province on the competitive edge. With these investments, we are strengthening our agriculture and food sector at every step in order to create good middle class jobs for Manitobans.”
– Dan Vandal, Member of Parliament for Saint-Boniface – Saint Vital, on behalf of Marie-Claude Bibeau, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food

As part of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the governments of Canada and Manitoba are investing more than $4.8 million for 22 projects under the Ag Action Manitoba Research and Innovation Activity Stream, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, and Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler, announced today at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Researchers at the St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre will be receiving more than $650,000 to conduct four separate studies on the economic and health related effects of flaxseed and flax milk. Areas of study include the effect of flax milk on chemotherapy side-effects experienced by breast cancer patients; how flax milk can improve arterial hypertension; how memory and cognition are affected by flaxseed; and comparing the effects of fish oil to flax oil.

“Manitoba continues to be a hub for research and innovation, which will help drive the long-term success of Manitoba’s agriculture sector, benefitting farmers, processors and many other stakeholders. Research and innovation are an integral part of agriculture in Manitoba, and will continue to accelerate the rate at which our industry grows.” – Ralph Eichler, Manitoba Minister of Agriculture

The Ag Action Manitoba Research and Innovation Activity Stream provides grant funding for researcher and industry-led projects that contribute to the development of agricultural knowledge and skills and improve the competitiveness and sustainability of Manitoba’s agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sectors.

“We are excited by the opportunity afforded by the Federal and Provincial Governments to our five Principal Investigators here at St. Boniface Hospital to determine if flax can significantly help in the fight against disease and create an economic impact to boost Canadian agribusiness. The opportunity to collaborate with major flax companies in Manitoba, like Pizzeys’ Ingredients, gives us another exciting opportunity to produce important information that will advance the flax field.”
– Dr. Grant Pierce, Executive Director, St. Boniface Hospital Research

As part of Budget 2019, the Manitoba government is partnering with the Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation (MASC) to increase the maximum amount eligible for the Young Farmer Rebate program to $200,000 from $150,000 , Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler announced today.

“One of our government’s priorities is to increase the number of young people in the agriculture industry,” Eichler said. “Increasing the young farmer rebate supports our focus on young producers by reducing the cost of borrowing while they grow their operations.”

Recent census data shows the average age of a Manitoba producer is over 53. In consultation with stakeholders, industry groups and young producers, it was noted that assistance for young farmers is necessary, given rising costs and changes in farm economics over the past decade.

The program provides an annual rebate of up to two per cent on the principal of a loan from MASC for up to five years. As a result of the expansion, the lifetime maximum rebate will also increase, to $20,000 from $15,000.

“Agriculture is the backbone of Manitoba’s rural economy, and young farmers are the future of the industry’s growth,” said Jared Munro, president and CEO, MASC. “This enhancement to the Young Farmer Rebate program is expected to provide an additional $500,000 in interest reductions next fiscal year.”

MASC designs and administers lending and insurance programs targeted at young and beginning farmers. As farms consolidate and barriers to entry increase, MASC is enhancing its programs, with a target that 75 per cent of new loan approvals be for young farmers.

The young farmer rebate program is part of MASC’s Bridging Generations Initiative, which provides producers under the age of 40 with financial incentives and customized terms and repayment options. In 2017-18, MASC issued 815 direct loans under the Young Farmer Rebate program. Other measures geared at young producers include higher percentages of available financing for large purchases and the ability to make interest-only payments for the first five years of a loan.

Eichler noted this change will be implemented on April 1.
